What about the insects, they are living beings too.

True, but the Bible refers to insects as pestilence. So if there's good reason behind killing them like if their poisonous, blood drinkers, or destroying your food supply I see no ethical problems. But just killing bugs for fun isn't really right, they serve a purpose and they're still God's creation. I don't kill spiders in my house because most are harmless and they eat ants and other pest, and I think spiders are cool.

I don't want to ruin food for everyone, but anyone who ever ate cereal, oatmeal, and just about everything else found in a grocery store has eaten bugs.

Doooon't Doooooo iiiiiiit! That's my advice. I'd die without meat :p. I eat a LOT of meat. I also raise almost all of it myself (or hunt it), so the cruelty you mentioned isn't a deal.

And for the record, are you talking vegan, or vegetarian?

I just learned how cruel consumerism is to animals. So I'm done with supermarket and fast food meat.

Is this a healthy choice? And do you have any advice about beginning a vegan diet?
First know that everyone's body is different and will react to different diets.... differently. If you are going to make a serious change to your diet, it's my unprofessional opinion that you seek professional advice. Via dietitian. That- or do a lot of research and pay close attention to how your body reacts to certain foods.

Second, do some research in your local area for independent ranchers. My Grandfather, for example, is a cattle rancher and they are treated better than how some people treat their dogs. And the quality of meat gain from that definitely speaks for itself. Maybe look and see if there are any Amish ranchers who might do some business with you.

Third, Before you decide to go full on vegan... you need to know what that means. Because Veganism means no animal products. If you really want to completely boycott meat factories, you're going to need to do some research. Gelatin, an easy example, is found in lots of candies, cheesecake, jell-o, and others, is an animal product. Shopping for groceries is going to be difficult, and similarly will be ordering at a restaurant. Sadly, a diet choice is still an excuse for some people to treat their customers with disrespect.

Fourthly, if at the end of the day, you still feel like veganism is the right thing for you, learn your super foods. Bananas, for example, are amazing.

And Fifth, but not least, ;) if you decide to change your mind down the road, please know that your stomach will not have the strength to digest meat if you go without for a long time. You'll have to slowly introduce it to your diet again or you could actually hurt yourself.

Be prepared to deal with judgement and hate from others. Most of my family in the USA didn't know I was vegan until I went to a family BBQ over the summer. Lol awkward.. Some even made jokes at my expense. I respect their right to choose but mine I had to defend.

To answer the question posed by the title of this thread, don't become vegan. It's a cult, and animals are part of our food chain. You will need dietary supplements, that you otherwise wouldn't need.

I think you have the wrong idea. I'm not commanding anyone to abstain from meats, it's nowhere in the topic.

But what I am doing is following my conscience.
I'm not against eating meat at all, but I won't eat meat from tortured animals that are treated like inamament objects. These animals aren't even allowed to be what they are. Due to the hedonistic lifestyle and counmerism of this world, God's creation is bent and twisted.

We are called to be good stewarts. Proverbs 12:10 A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal,
But the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.

You can eat whatever you please, I'm not here to convince you not to. If it's ok with you that the food on your plate was probably the target of sadistic abuse then dig in. If you don't mind that mind that poultry farms throw 80% of their male chicks into a garbage can to suffocate or throw em into a grinder, then have yourself a 10 pice bucket at KFCs.
Start hunting then.

A diet of red meat, 70% fat, no sugars, no grains, and you should be in perfect health.

Vegan means no animal by-products also.
No butter, honey, ice cream, milk, dairy, eggs, etc.
Not even jello (it has gelatin, which comes from animals).
No more gummy bears, either :(

My advice is to don't do it. Why would you want to take all of the joy out eating?

What Foxtail said about the possible long-term effects of a diet abstaining entirely of meat is absolutely correct. While I’m sure that most Vegans would probably be able to slowly introduce meat back into their diet (if they ever changed their mind) I do know of one who has permanently lost that ability.

She was a strict Vegan for several years and actually developed a condition where her digestive system stopped producing some of the enzymes necessary to break down animal proteins. In other words, she can no longer eat meat because her body can no longer digest it.

After seeing someone develop that condition, I personally think it may be wise to still possibly keep at least something like fish in your diet, just to ensure that those specific enzymes continue to be produced.

That is just utter nonsense. Unsubstantiated by science.

Does anyone here have a clue how enzymes work in the body, or what our anatomy tells us about what a ideal diet is?

In fact most of this thread is mis-information and a sad lack of understanding what the bible says about diet.
It's a shame most Christians are so completely ignorant of Gods word regarding this particular subject.

Before the internet I could understand people sometimes making such inane statements, but now...
Has anyone actually done even a little work investigating some of the statements that have been made here?

Lastly, for the 50th time, Christians love to quote how God allowed us to eat meat, BUT IT WAS A CONCESSION !! Just like when Israel wanted a king. God allowed them to, knowing they were set on it anyway, yet also knowing it would lead to trouble and was not part of His original plan.

Now, knowing this site, everyone is more or less going to ignore that last paragraph and/or make some crazy statements about why what I wrote is incorrect.

Still, study after unbiased study shows conclusively that eliminating or greatly reducing animal protein is beneficial to health. The bottom line is A) a lot of you just have not put enough time or any time into studying this in the bible, or outside it, and B) it is a rationale you use to feed your pleasure without guilt.

BTW, plant food in all its endless varieties and combinations can and does taste great. And it is a entirely sustainable way to eat from a culinary standpoint. So many of you are eating highly processed chemical laden foods you just don't fully appreciate the wonderful taste of raw food in its natural God designed state because your taste buds are compromised due to all the junk you insult and poison your bodies with.

Ugly's right you will need to "compensate" for the loss of protein; like certain nuts and tofu will help.

Contrarily, there are plenty of greens, ample in character, that not only provide protein but satisfy the average requirement in a far more superior way than meats can. Keep in mind, those 'meat's can be full of chemicals, they've been injected with certain liquids to appear a certain colour and are one of the biggest known causes of cancer. Bravo in going vegan!

I am not a professional, how ever I have seen a dietician, and looked up nutrition values of food and health benifits of them.
I can tell you this, She recommended for me, to eat a well ballanced diet and more exercise.

A well ballanced diet in one meal is this, 50% vegtables, 25% meat, and 25% starches.
So a fist size piece of meat, is 1 serving, a bout 1 cup of pasta, would be 1 serving and about 4 cups of fruits and veggies would be about 2 servings. This is of course she made this reccomendation in accordance with the Canada food guide.

It was also suggested to my specific situation, and the informatio could be slightly off as it was suggested quite a few years ago. So here is my advice to you, If you have any concerns about your diet, you should see a qualified nutrtionist or dietition,
and if you have any medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.... talk to your family physician first about changing your diet and exercise routine. Because most fruits are high in natural sugars, and meats are ususally loaded with protein and iron.

If you don't have any health concerns you could also just look up reputable resources for health and nutrition, and make your own descision. Also look up information on working out to what exercises will help you loose weight. But simply switching to a special diet just for the sake of change without adequite information could be hazardous to your health.
As you could be neglecting your body of vitamins and minerals needed for it to function.

Remember a one size fits all diet is probably just a money grab and could be dangerous if not properly supervised.
You do not want to pick a diet that could jepordize your health if it neglects your body of what it needs to function and survive.

I just learned how cruel consumerism is to animals. So I'm done with supermarket and fast food meat.

Is this a healthy choice? And do you have any advice about beginning a vegan diet?

The carbohydrate is the number one cause of obesity. The carbohydrate is also known as sugar, fructose, and lactose.
The human body does not require the carbohydrate to produce glucose. It does require fat though.

Ask Ugly how much protein we need and why he thinks he stated the correct amount. Also ask him what is the difference in the way animal protein and plant proteins are processed in the body.
