Silly? Me?
Never.

I'm as normal as they come.
I put my straitjacket on one arm at a time just like everyone else here.

Mama always said, silly is as silly does....

When I'm sleep deprived, I tend to lose my temper more easily. What's weird is that I KNOW I have that tendency, but I can't seem to stop it.

The only solution (Miri) is to get more sleep. :)

I am occasionally silly because I am a nerd. We nerds don't give a fart in a whirlwind what "normal" people think about us. This gives us much freedom to occasionally enjoy silliness for no apparent reason.

I can be nerdy at times as well, but hey isn’t nerdy just another word for intelligent.

Hmm... possibly. If a person seems smart, but puts so much stock in the opinions of those around him that he gives up doing fun things, is he really intelligent?

Teenagers who are trying to be super-cool would never think of sliding down the snow-covered hill behind the high school. But I had fun that one year it snowed so much. I had a wet seat for the next class, and some peers thought less of me, but I didn't think what they thought mattered and I still don't.

You might be on to something Miri. Perhaps nerds - or people who aren't afraid to occasionally be nerdy - really are the only truly intelligent people.

what's the diff between a nerd and a geek? computers v. Star Wars or something?

... i think my son-in-law might be both, is that possible? he is quite silly, which i like and admire.

I believe that it's a matter of semantics.

Of course if we want to get technical we would have to conclusively define "geek" and conclusively define "nerd" and that would get into the ten minute slideshow... by the end of which we would realize we are geeks AND nerds. :p

Actually a geek is an otherwise normal person who is really into something. You might never know this person is a geek unless you just happen to mention the subject about which he is a geek and he starts geeking out about it. Example: My father is a rock geek. If you say anything about rocks, gems, any kind of stones in rings, fossils or anything having anything to do with rocks, you should be prepared for a seven hour long dissertation on different rocks in their raw and polished forms - complete with samples he has with him for illustration!

A nerd is a computer geek that has no social skills. I am a nerd.

Geeks draw the line at pocket protectors. Even they don't want caught dead wearing one.

Nerds think they're cool.
