I'm having trouble understanding the second part of this verse.

Proverbs 18:21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it eat it's fruit.

Does it refer to the power the tongue has? Such as, filling someone up with encouragement or tearing them down completely. If so what exactly are it's fruit?

Proverbs 18:21, LXX:
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who control it will eat its fruits."

I think it means who control the tongue. And fruits are life or death.

Sorry, I meant to put NIV because that version says "and those who love it". Either way though I'm still confused on the fruit thing.

Lol

Proverbs 18:22

[SUP]22 [/SUP]Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.

If there is one thing that god has taught me in my time of being on cc it's the power words have. Our words can be seen as a blade they can cut down, they can injure a persons faith, they can make a persons heart weep and bleed they can hack and slash but remember also that for every blade there is that can cut and make others bleed there is also a blade that can heal and build up.

There is one joy that I delight in the most and that is when God uses me to speak and it makes an impact on peoples hearts, when I see a heart that healed or encouraged or when I see God use me to help build up strengthen and encourage others I have never known such joy and while I cannot take credit for the words spoken the fruits I have seen when he speaks through really and truly amazes me. so consider this when you read about the tongue and consider what your words are and if the blade is for cutting down or for building up. People often times are unaware of the power of words.

I agree with that. Sometimes though you have to tear someone down (in a positive manner, of course) so they can rebuild themselves. But I'm definitely aware of the power words can have. And I think when I truly help someone get closer to Jesus or just spread his words of love. What I receive back is joy, so maybe that's what it means by fruit.

Look at the fruits of the Spirit and the works of the flesh to determine by its words what its fruit is.

Yes this is true just make sure to remember that there is a difference between correction and tearing someone down. and Joy is after all called the fruit of the spirit:)

Thank you for that, and I will try to remember that. Mostly what helps me is trying to leave people better than what I found them instead of worse.

I've sort of looked at the verse like this: a forest fire can be started with it and we should be slow to speak, so we don't start any sparks. But those who love the power over others that their tongue gives them,as you are able to shut people up, cow them, teaR them down instead of encourage, make yourself feel more in control or more important, then you will eat the bitter fruit, and you sow what you reap.

By your words you will be judged and or justified.....which ever fruit you produce thereof you will eat....for example...ALL who confess JESUS before men in faith will be confessed before the HEAVENLY FATHER....all who deny JESUS will be denied before the HEAVENLY FATHER

etc.......

Yes, it starting to make sense to me now. To me it means whatever comes out of my mouth will be judged accordingly. So basically, makes sure what I say period is approved by Jesus before I just say it. Essentially, think before I speak. Thanks!

Thanks! I just needed to discuss it with others to gain some understanding of what it meant.

Yes, I agree that is wisdom. :)
Also though, there are 2 relevant verses.
1. Love covers a multitude of sins.
2. Whoever shows mercy will be shown mercy himself.

There is also one that states, to my understanding, that whatever measure or scale we use on others will be the same scale used to weigh us.

And another - God detests unequal weights. Weighing in our favor and not equally, seeing that we have sometimes done the same types of things to others that we are intending to nurse a grudge over, thinking they should not be completely forgiven but we should, is putting your thumb on the scale. It is the parable of the man whose debt was forgiven who then went out and demanded payment of another mans debt.
