That’s cool! It’s good to know there are places where people can go and really dance.
They do just about everything there. But, in 1954, I kind of doubt they served booze. I was there for an awards ceremony. My mother and I had both won our respective divisions in the Jaycee Tarpon Roundup that year. I was there with my first "date", a little girl who was the daughter of a friend of my mother's.
After seeing some unused dried apricots, cranberries, santol in syrup, nuts too, i thought i should try to make some fruit cake again, after all these yrs... so i pulled out stuff incl cinnamon, allspice, molasses, et al. I realize it is quite late to make them to age before Christmas, but then these things do not really last that long here, unless i hide them securely...! Quickly mixed some, then realized i could not open a bottle of wine-- coz of that cork my child and i tried to mos. ago and altogether forgot. Whatever, i sparingly added sugar, hoping it was not too little to taste sweet enough, then decided i'd just get some rum or brandy to brush on the cake later. I have sampled the result, but decide it is not the fruitcake we used to have. To those who bake, is it the sugar again, or i just have to really wait for it to age?
Ordering online at sears.com for local pick-up does not work. (Two weeks, screwdriver set still not available for local pick-up at Sears store two miles from my house.)

Also cleans the drain, if you just let it soak in the S-trap, until it stops fizzling.Vinegar solution and baking soda is a fantastic tub cleaner! I just found that out today.And no dangerous chemicals to deal with.

My dad used to meet with his dad after work and stop off at the local pub to have a beer with him. He was 4 when this tradition started. Different eras, sometimes.

Not only is waiting involved for our family recipe, but freezing too. And, yes, rum is needed, and the problem is if you don't wait, that's all you taste -- the rum.
I missed my aunt's fruitcake, and mentioned it to my cousin last Christmas. Next thing I know, fruitcake at my doorstep. I didn't think she's do that, because what I miss is not having diabetes, so I could eat it.
Had a sample anyway, but she had just made it the month before. (Blah! Also haven't drank any alcohol in 30 years, so low levels for getting tipsy. Think I might have with just one bite. lol) I think the birds and squirrels in the neighborhood got drunk. I fear they'll be knocking at the back door soon, looking for this year's Christmas party. lol

What doesn't work -- ordering women's overalls from Dickies. Apparently size 39 inch waist translated into 48 inch waist, and any woman who fits into those overalls must also have a size 36 inch inseam. (Picture Shaq wearing a wig, and you can see the woman in those pants. lol)
