I'm not sure where to stick this. But that download for chat DOES NOT WORK. I can see the chat room before signing in, but obviously I can't participate. Try to download it. It downloads. It "installs" but then a box pops up saying it didn't install properly. Help. Please. I just want to get into chat.

I'm using Windows.... 7? (Lost 8 when I burned up my last hard drive. Don't want to upgrade to 10.) I use Firefox. Not sure what else you might need to know that might be necessary to help me.

These kinds of questions go in User2User Tech.
Perhaps, first, try restarting your computer. It shouldn't be required but with computers you never know.
If you have done that already then I would suggest uninstalling it, deleting the file you use to install, restarting your computer then download it again and installing fresh.
Sometimes downloads can get glitches and mess up the installation. This is usually the first step when that happens.
Hope it works for you.

Keep on mind the Windows chat app is still in beta, meaning it's still in its testing stage. It's inly been recently that the old chat, the one you see when you first come to the site, was set aside for the app. So please keep that in mind.

I found that other thread. Looks like I need to download some Adobe garbage. Why couldn't they just leave it the way it was? *sigh*

Actually the Adobe is for the Old chat that was around for 10+ years. Adobe Flash was a common requirement for many online uses for decades. But due to it being regularly updated, it required people to keep it updated so it would work on the countless sites that used it.
Adobe Flash is no longer needed. In fact Adobe announced they will discontinue Flash in 2020. As i explained, it's just been fairly recent that the switch has been made away from the old chats, so some information that is now outdated may still show as current.
Download the app, install and run the chats. That's all that's needed. So actually it's easier now than it was with the old site, thus the 'couldn't they leave it the way it was?' comment runs contrary to your complaint about the difficulties you're having. You're simply having bad luck, a common occurance with software. Sometimes two people with identical computers, one will have trouble and the other will have no trouble. It's not the fault of the software creators, or even the hardware, just the nature of computer technology.

By the way Adobe makes some of the most popular and powerful video and photo editing software as well as web design software. Professional level software. And with Flash having been a dominating force online for over 20 years it's hardly a feasible statement to refer to Adobe products as 'trash'.

The fact that they switched everything over so you have to run everything online is trash. I buy a software program on a disc and I can't run it because I'm not online? Total bull.

It's called anti-piracy.
Three posts of yours. All three angry and complaining.

Get with the program, Windows 10 is the way forward! It's so much more functional and customisable than Windows 7 which is more like a whole App package in one except you don't use half of it.

The main thing I notice is how I can shut down and start up within a few seconds. If you shut down on Windows 7, it is loading the whole app kind of thing, rather than a framework. I don't necessarily need to Sleep, unless I'm in the middle of something. It was the best idea ever to rewrite Windows and make it like most other Operating Systems.

Not to mention because it has been rewritten, it is far more secure than Windows 7, things such as user initiated Malware attacks (clicking the wrong link). This is one of the many flaws of Windows 7 and why Windows had to be rewritten. Or are you saying things are rewritten to make them worse lol

Sorry, I cannot use the newer versions of windows with my lighting software. As far as Windows 10...it is not like most other operating systems. Unix and Linux are much more customisable than anything microsoft has ever put out. You should try Linux and go headfirst into c++ and you will see this yourself. Linux is also free.
