Isn't it ironic, that keeping sabbath according to the command of God is to 'not go out' from where you are on that day, so that the fact most believers go out and meet on the 8th day instead of the 7th, and have done so for 2,000 years, means that they do not break the sabbath by this, since it isn't the 7th day - yet in the last century the SDA has risen up accusing all the church of profaning the sabbath by gathering to worship and to celebrate Christ's resurrection on the day of the week that He rose - which isn't keeping sabbath, it's not even the purpose of our congregating - but the SDAs command is that we should actually break the sabbath by going out of our houses on that day, specifically contradicting God's command?
Hi posthuman we are no longer under the Old Covenant. God's 4th commandments says.......

Exodus 20
8, Remember the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY.
<Why?> Because God made it Holy for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day)
9,
Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
10,
But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY?>
11,
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH DAY: wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and HALLOWED IT.

The commandment says nothing about not going out on God's Sabbath

It is God's WORD my friend not mine it is between you and God what you do with it. However it is the Word of God that will indeed judge all of us in the last days. Those that do not BELIEVE God's WORD do not enter the KINGDOM of HEAVEN because they are still in their SINS because they have not FOLLOWED HIM who called them. Many are called but FEW are chosen because NARROW is the way. It is hard to kick against the pricks...

................

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) and like any of the ten, if we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

There is not one scripture in ALL of God's WORD that says God's 4th commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to worship God on Sunday in it's place.

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has lead many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

In other words we get to make up our own human traditions on how to keep sabbath, he says.

God says 'remember' which implies it was already known. Yes, known, because in Exodus 16 He gave them bread from heaven, and told them nor to go out every 7th day, and He gave them twice as much as necessary for one day on every 6th day. He told Moses this was to test if they would keep His commands. This is what they were to remember, it was the first time a Sabbath had ever been commanded to anyone to keep, according to scripture.

But we're being told now you must keep law, if you don't you are evil, following only human traditions, but we are also being told, don't actually keep law, just pretend you are and make up all your own human traditions, don't follow how the Law actually tells you how to keep the sabbath.

Irony of ironies, right?

The Bread of Life has truly come down from heaven!

He has provided more than sufficient for the day!

Gather up two omers, and bake as much as you want - then rest, giving thanks, do not remove yourself from where you are found, and await the 8[SUP]th[/SUP] day, when that Bread will come again!

Amen and amen, as the dew covers the earth, white like snow

Hi posthuman,

We must BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's Word. Only God's Word is true. Our opinions do not cancel out God's Word this is only teachings and men that lead to traditions that break the commandments of God. Those who practice SIN have no part in God's Kingdom because they do NOT FOLLOW God's Word which is the FRUIT of FAITH. So sadly these are in UNBELIEF believing and teaching all the first lie from the garden of Eden. Repeated again in our day if you eat of the fruit of the knowledge of Good and Evil you will not surely die....

Just as it was so many years ago with our first parents if you eat of the forbidden FRUIT when God asks you NOT to you will surely die this is the Word of God and we should BELIEVE it.

10,

11,
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH DAY: wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and HALLOWED IT.

SABBATH H7676 שַׁבָּת shabbath (shab-bawth') n-e. 1. intermission, a period of temporary rest.2. (specifically) the Sabbath, the seventh day being the day of rest.[intensive from H7673]KJV: (+ every) Sabbath. Root(s): H7673

God's Sabbath is a memorial of CREATION that was made in the creation week and given to our first parents. Let's look at the scriptures..........

Genesis 2
1, Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2, And ON THE SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and he RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made.
3, And GOD BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY, and made it HOLY <the 7th day>: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

RESTED H7673 שָׁבַת shabath (shaw-ɓath') v.to repose, i.e. to cease from exertion.
{used in many implied relations (causative, figurative or specific)}[a primitive root]KJV: (cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, keep Sabbath, suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away.

Some points to note from the scriptures...............

v1 God completed creation in 6 days and RESTED on the 7TH DAY
v2 God RESTED on the 7TH DAY
v3 God SET APART the 7TH DAY and made THE 7TH DAY a HOLY DAY
v2 The 7TH DAY is part of the FINISHED WORK of the CREATION WEEK

Now who did God make the 7th day a Holy day for? Is he making that day a Holy day for himself? Of course NOT God is already Holy. He has made the day for MANKIND as a HOLY DAY.

Let’s see what Jesus says…………

Mark 2
27,
And he said unto them, THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN, and not man for the Sabbath.

The Sabbath was made for WHO? The Sabbath was made for MAN. So here we have the God of creation telling us why the 7th Day was made a Holy day. It was made for MANKIND

STRONGS Greek MAN G444 ἄνθρωποςanthropos (an'-thrō-pos) n.
1. (literally) man†-visage (i.e. a man-faced being, a man who has visibly come of age).
2. (concretely, in Hebrew) a clay being (a classification of beings made in the image of God, who made them male and female). 3. (generically, in English) a human being. 4. (indefinitely) a certain man (i.e. someone).
[from G435 and ops “the countenance” (from G3700)] KJV: certain, man Root(s): G435, G3700

So the Sabbath was made for Human beings; clay beings (we are made out of the dust); male and female

So God made the 7th day of the week a HOLY day and blessed it for MAN this now ties in very nicely with Exodus……….

Exodus 20
8, Remember the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. <Why? Because God made it Holy for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day)
9, Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10, But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God:

God says that it is a specific day which is the 7TH DAY OF THE WEEK that he has made to be a HOLY DAY. Jesus says it was made Holy in the creation week for mankind. All scriptures connect and are in harmony. Genesis where God made the Day a HOLY DAY; God’s 4th commandment to His people that says to REMEMBER the Sabbath day to KEEP it a HOLY DAY and Jesus stating that the Sabbath was made for MANKIND (Human beings; male and female).

Now if God made the Sabbath for mankind then obviously Adam and Eve had the Sabbath the GREEK Word for MAN G444 ἄνθρωποςanthropos (an'-thrō-pos) n. is a clay being (a classification of beings made in the image of God, who made them male and female). There is only two people made out of clay (dust) and that is Adam and Eve.

When Israel became slaves in Egypt that 4th commandment was largely forgotten because Israel became slaves to the Egyptians.

...............

IN times of ignorance God winks at but now calls all men every where to REPENT for the KINGDOM of HEAVEN is at HAND (Acts 17:30-31)

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we break any one of the ten we stand guilty before God of SIN (James 2:8-11) and need to repent and seek his forgiveness (Proverbs 28:13; 1 John 2:1; 1 John 1:9). Those that continue a life in known unrepentant sin will not enter into God's Kingdom (Hebrews 10:26-27)

There is NO SCRIPTURE that says that God's 4th commandment has been ABOLISHED and we are now COMMANDED to keep Sunday as a HOLY day

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has lead many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

It is the same for all the commandments if you knowingly break any of God's 10 commandments then you stand guilty before God in SIN. If you do not REPENT and seek God's FORGIVENESS then you are in danger of the judgement. SIN will keep all those who practice it out of the KINGDOM of HEAVEN (Hebrews 10:26-27; Matthew 7:12-27)

Jesus says if you break the commandments of God by following the teachings and traditions of men you are not following God....

John 15
3, But he answered and said unto them, WHY DO YOU TRANSGRESS THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD BY YOUR TRADITION?
4, For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, He that curses father or mother, let him die the death.
5, But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou might be profited by me;
6, And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. THUS YOU HAVE MADE THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD OF NONE EFFECT BY YOUR TRADITION.
7, Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,
8, This people drawes nigh unto me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9, But IN VAIN THEY DO WORSHIP ME, TEACHING FOR DOCTRINES THE COMMANDMENTS OF MEN.

You are BREAKING God's commandments and not FOLLOWING GOD if you are FOLLOWING the teachings and traditions of MEN that lead you to break the commandments of GOD.

Matthew 12:5
Or have you not read in the Law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless?

Matthew 12:7
And if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.

Jesus came to break man made traditions and taught it is lawful to do GOOD on the Sabbath. It is God's Word and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW IT. Those who do not BELIEVE and FOLLOW GOD's WORD have no part in the KINGDOM of HEAVEN...

You missed out on Mathew 12:8 which is the scripture describing which is the "Lords Day" here let me add it for you as you left it out of the above scriptures you quoted......

Matthew 12:8, For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day. (the creator; maker; The Sabbath is the Lord's Day; The 7th day of the week)

Let's look at the at the scriptures you quoted in CONTEXT with the rest of the Mathew 12 including the parts you left out......

Matthew 12

1, At that time Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.
2, But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day.
3, But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;
4, How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shew bread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
5, Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?
6, But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
7, But if ye had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
8, For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day. <The Lord's Day>
9, And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:
10, And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
11, And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the Sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12, How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days.
13, Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.
14, Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.
15, But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;
16, And charged them that they should not make him known.

If you follow the teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments of God, Jesus says you are not FOLLOWING God.

It is sad how you often tell people they are breaking a commandment to worship on Sunday as if that in itself was not good, and against the law.

Hello Magenta,

Where have I ever told anyone they are breaking God's commandments by worshiping God on Sunday? We can worship God any and every day of the week but God's 4th commandments says...

Exodus 20
8,Remember the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. <Why?> Because God made it Holy for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day)
9,
Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
10,
But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY>
11,
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH DAY: wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and HALLOWED IT.

I have witnessed you saying it on more than one occasion. Do you now deny it? I have even asked you to give the Scripture where it says it is against the law to worship on Sunday, but of course, since you were making it up, you could not comply with my request.

Really? Will you say sorry for bearing false witness if you cannot show me where I have said that if someone worships God on Sunday or any other day of the week for that matter they are breaking God's commandments?

Exodus 34
28 Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments.

to me the word of the covenant - the ten commandments, mean ten commandment is covenant

Ex 34:27-28
27 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.
28 And he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.
KJV

In verse 27 Moses is instructed to write the Law, which is the covenant. In verse 28 God Himself wrote the 10 commandments.
The covenant was the Law of which the 10 commandments were a small excerpt.

In Deut chapters 28-32 we see what God is binding Himself to perform and what He is binding Israel to perform.

where do we get the idea that the Covenant Law is not really one covenant but lots of individual covenants, some of which are binding but not all of them?

"ceremonial law"
"moral law"
"penal law"
"priestly law"
"dietary law"

etc.

does this come from scripture?
where does scripture talk about "The Law" as though it's lots of different laws?

i can't answer "what is the purpose of the covenant" if i don't know which covenant you're asking about, that is, if you think they are not all one covenant, but many ((which separation of clauses of the contract into many different non-intersecting contracts i do not agree with))
In light of both Jesus earthly ministry, and the NT, it seems obvious that the intent of the Law is to demonstrate the futility of trying to please God by one's own efforts; and to demonstrate our need for a Savior.

I have witnessed you saying it on more than one occasion. Do you now deny it? I have even asked you to give the Scripture where it says it is against the law to worship on Sunday, but of course, since you were making it up, you could not comply with my request.

The reason FOR worshiping / attending church services on Sunday include the biblical FACT that the resurrection of Jesus was discovered on "the first day of the week," which on most printed calendars is Sunday!

Hi MarcR,

Nice to see you again friend. You are correct to say that God's Law is part of the Old Covenant as quoted in Exodus 34:27-28. This however is one part of the Old covenant. Take note of v10-17 which is where the Covenant starts with God's promise to drive out the inhabitant of the land warning God's people not to make a covenant with the people of the land lest they learn their ways. This is followed in v18-26 which is the commands to Israel to keep the annual festivals of the Old Covenant v27 God tells Moses to write these things in his book. v28 is God writing the 10 commandments and giving them to Moses.

The Old Covenant is made up of (1) God's Law (10 commandments) and the (2) Mosaic laws for remission of sin and other laws written in the book of Moses.

Let's look at some of the scriptures...........

Exodus 34:28, And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And He (God) wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

and the Ten commandments were the work of God written by God himself with His own finger................

Exodus 31:18, When the LORD finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the covenant law, the tablets of stone INSCRIBED WITH THE FINGER of God. (This was God's Work written by God alone)The Old Covenant does indeed include the 10 commandments but that is not all that makes up the Old Covenant; you left out the other part of the scriptures of the Old covenant written in the same chapter because you trust in your words from man. Please read Exodus 34:18-27. I will only post the last verse here to help you but please read all for yourself....

Exodus 34:27, And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.

Now notice something here please. Exodus 31:18 and 34:28 say that God made and wrote the 10 commandments correct and this is part of the Old Covenant. Now NOTICE Exodus 34:27 that you left out. God is telling Moses to write something that God was telling him to write down earlier and it is ALSO a Covenant between Moses and Israel. Please read Exodus 34:18-27 for yourself.

This leads us to the second part that makes up the Old Covenant.................

(2) The Mosaic laws for remission of SIN and other laws. The book of the law of Moses was written by Moses and it is ALSO part of the OLD Covenant

EXODUS 24 [5] And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the LORD.[6] And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. [7] AND HE TOOK THE BOOK OF THE COVENANT AND READ IN THE AUDIENCE OF THE PEOPLE: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient. [8] And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, BEHOLD THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.

NUMBERS 25 [11] Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy. [12] Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him MY COVENANT of peace: [13] And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even THE COVENANT OF AN EVERLASTING PRIESTHOOD; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

DEUTERONOMY 29 [21] And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, ACCORDING TO ALL THE CURSES OF THE COVENANT THAT ARE WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THIS LAW:

DEUTERONOMY 31 [24] And it came to pass, when MOSES HAD MADE AN END OF WRITING THE WORDS OF THIS BOOK, UNTIL THEY WERE FINISHED, [25] That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying, [26], TAKE THIS BOOK OF THE LAW, AND PUT IT IN THE SIDE OF THE ARK OF THE COVENANT OF THE LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee

The Ark of the Covenant was the home of the covenant to God and His people and included both (1) God’s Law (10 commandments) written on stone and (2) The laws of Moses written in book. Together these made up the Old Covenant ………..

DEUTERONOMY 10 [8] At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day.

The God’s Law (10 commandments) on two tables of stone were placed inside because they were part of the Old Covenant. The Mosaic law written in a book was also placed in the side of the Ark because it was part of the Old Covenant……………...................

DEUTERONOMY 31 [26] TAKE THIS BOOK OF THE LAW, AND PUT IT IN THE SIDE OF THE ARK OF THE COVENANT OF THE LORD your God that it may be there for a witness against thee

What was the purpose of God's Law (10 commandments) written on stone by God and the Mosaic laws written by Moses in a book...............................

(1) God’s Law (10 commandments)
Purpose; reveals what sin and righteousness (Good and Evil) is and the describes the penalty for sin (Romans 3:20; 1 John 3:4; Romans 6:23). It was never a cure for sin. But it was the work of God which is forever and the foundation of the Old Covenant, the New Covenant and the Judgement to come. (Exodus 32:16; Exodus 31:18; 31:18; Exodus 20:1-22; Deuteronomy 10:5; Romans 3:20; 1 John 3:4; Romans 6:23; Hebrews 7:19; Ecclesiastes 12:13-14, James 2:10-12, 1 John 3:4, Acts 17:31; Ps 111:7-8; Revelation 12:17; 14:12; 22:14; 1 John 3:5-8; 1 John 2:3-4; Ecclesiastes 3:14)

(2) The laws of Moses (Levitical, ceremonial, sacrificial)
Purpose; was the prescriptive cure for sin with all the Levitical and ceremonial laws, burnt offerings for sin, annual feast days foretelling the plan of salvation which were connected to Feast days with New Moon sabbaths, food and drink offerings and other Holy days. These where all types pointing to Jesus and the plan of salvation and provided a cure for sin through animal sacrifice and food and drink offerings and yearly sin atonement's for God’s people. (Leviticus 1:1-13; Leviticus 23:1-44; Numbers 28:1-31; 29:1-40; Deuteronomy 24:10-11; Exodus 24:3; Deuteronomy 31:24-26; Colossians 2:16-16; Hebrews 10:1; Ephesians 2:14-15; Leviticus 4; 5; 6; Hebrews 4:14; 9;10; John 1:29; not exhaustive there are many more).

Why were the ceremonial laws of Moses (handwriting of ordinances) nailed to the cross and shadows of things to come......

Jesus was our true sacrifice for our sins and the Savior of the world that the ceremonial laws of Moses all pointed to. When Jesus came and died the old Covenant laws of Moses that pointed to Jesus and the plan of salvation was fulfilled (John 1:29; 36; Revelation 5:6; 1 Corinthians 5:6-7; Hebrews 8:2-13; 9:1-28). Jesus is our true Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world and our sacrifice for our sins. It is our sins as well as the ceremonial laws of Moses that were nailed to the cross at the death of Jesus (Colossians 2:14; Ephesians 2:15; John 3:16).

So just as the Mosaic laws for remission of SIN are have a difference purpose to God's Law (10 commandments) they are all temporary Shadows because they were all pointing to Jesus. While God's Law is not temporary they are the manifestation of the Character of God through LOVE.

God's Law (10 commandments) are FOREVER

The Law of God (10 commandments) which includes the 4th commandment is the work of God (Exodus 32:16) whatsoever God does is forever nothing can be added to it or taken away (Ecclesiastes 3:14).
God's Law is perfect converting the soul (Psalms 19:7).
It is the very standard of the Old and New Covenants (Exodus 20:1:17, Hebrews 8:10-12).
God's Law was spoken by God himself to His people (Exodus 20:1-22). Jesus says Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away (Matthew 25:35).
Gods Law is still in force today (Psalms 111:7-8, Revelation 12:17, 14:12, 22:14, 1 John 3:5-8, 1 John 2:3-4 etc.).
The Law of God reveals sin to us so we can see ourselves as we truly are sinners in need of a Saviour (Romans 3:20; 1 John 3:4).
It is the great standard of the judgement (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14, James 2:10-12, 1 John 3:4, Acts 17:31).
God's Law is our teacher revealing sin and the character of God and brings us to Christ at the foot of the cross that we might be saved by faith by Him who loves us and washed us in His own blood (Galatians 3:24; Revelation 1:5).

You cannot know the power of God or the Gospel of Grace without the 10 commandments. If there is NO LAW then you do not know what SIN is (James 2:11; Romans 7:7; Romans 3:20; 1 John 3:4). If you do not know what SIN is you have NO need of a Savior. If you have NO need of a Savior you have NO Salvation. If you have NO Salvation you are LOST because it is written.

Romans 2:12, For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten ( Exodus 20:8-11 ) and like any of the ten, if we knowingly break it when God ask s us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12).
