Probably very little.

You were the one who posted about the Jewish calendar saying it was unimportant because it was from man.

I questioned your statement. You posted a version of the Jewish Calendar that was substantially different from the one I use.

I explained the difference between the one I see God's hand in and the one you posted.

If you don't think it is relevant why did you raise the issue in the first place.

When you post on a topic, YOU open the topic for discussion.

I would not have brought it up but I thought that what I believed to be inaccurate on your part should be questioned.

Many believers find the OT very relevant to understanding both sound doctrine and historical perspective.

Since many Christian observances have their roots in the appointed times of Lev chapter 23; and since those appointed times are determined by the Jewish Calendar I thought a correct understanding of the calendar might be of interest to some.
The thread is about the Sabbath and seeing as any calendar is of fairly recent construction, considering the age of man, which did not begin with the parents of Cain and Able who were farmers and shepherds and settled in one place, while earlier peoples were hunter gatherers and had been for umpteen generations. So with that in mind and knowing as I do that Ice Age man and cavemen to give two example, did not have calendars as we know them, other than very rudimentary standing stones as seen at Stonehenge for example, then quite clearly any modern calendar is man-made and I know this from the way Jews monitored the months and the planting and harvest times and added a month to bring it back into sync accordingly. In this way it developed as men learned about planting and harvest times as they monitored nature and watched when the seeds germinated etc. When the month was added, riders were sent to every part on the nation to tell the people. The calendar was man-made probably over a number of generations and to say it was God given and the Sabbath was the day God rested, when God neither slumbers or sleeps is totally ludicrousness and this invention needs to stop. Sorry, but there we are.

let's grow in out love for Jesus. we are not saved by command keeping. we are saved by grace, through faith, for good works. not Sabbath keeping. not command keeping.

we are to keep these commands- Believe in the name of the Son, and love one another. 1st John 3.
You cannot love another while breaking any of God's 10 Commandments. Breaking any of God's 10 Commandments is SIN and the wages of those who knowingly continue in SIN is death because they reject the GIFT of God's dear son.

The FRUIT of FAITH is OBEDIENCE to God's LAW that works by LOVE. If your FAITH has no fruit you are still in your SINS and do not KNOW him that calls you. Only God's Word is true and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW it.

..............

In times of ignorance God winks at but now calls all men every where to REPENT for the KINGDOM of HEAVEN is at HAND (Acts 17:30-31)

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has lead many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

May God bless you as you seek him through His Word.

Can't get any more wrong than this.

You've made the Lord Jesus Christ and Paul both liars, again.

Hebrews 4:9-10
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

How could you possibly get there remains a keeping of the sabbath to the people of God out of that???

If they are trying to keep a sabbath then they are trying to keep a ritual of judaism. If they are doing that then they are working at the law. That is not ceasing from works.

In Matthew 11:28 does the Lord Jesus Christ say that He will give people a 'keeping of the sabbath'? No.

Because that is not rest. Its judaizer nonsense.
Hello Grandpa,

You should listen to Hizikyah is is correct. It is your interpretation of God's Word that is the problem not his. You teach against the Law and the Prophets. Jesus and Paul NEVER did such things or did ANY of the disciples and followers of God in the OLD and NEW Testament. Please look up the scriptures below.

Jesus taught the 10 commandments…..

1. Jesus kept God’s Law (10 commandments) and said the Law and the prophets would not pass away (Matt 5:17-18)
2. Jesus taught others to follow the 10 commandments (Mark 10:17-21)
3. Jesus taught that Love is the fulfilling (doing) of God’s Law (10 commandments Matt 22:36-40)
4. If we break God’s Law by following man-made traditions we are not following God (Matt 15:3-9)
5. Jesus says if we commit sin we are a servant of sin and he has come to free us from sin (John 8:32-36)
6. Jesus taught if you love God you will keep God’s Law and abide in His Love (John 14:15; 15:10)
7. If anyone is breaking any of God’s commandments and teaching others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven <least = lost> (Matt 5:19)
8. No one can obey God’s Law producing the fruit of obedience of ourselves and unless we abide in Jesus we can do nothing (John 15:4-10)

Paul affirms the Ten Commandments……

1. Paul teaches God's people keep the Sabbath (Hebrews 4.)
2. Paul tells gentiles that "what matters is KEEPING the Commandments of GOD" (1 Cor 7:19)
3. Paul tells gentiles "it is not the HEARERS of the Law that are just before God but the DOERS of the Law will be justified... on the day when according to my GOSPEL God will judge all mankind" (Rom 2:13-16)
4. Paul asks that gentiles consider the doctrine of LAW "Do we then make void the LAW of God by our faith? God forbid! In fact we establish the Law of God" (Rom 3:31)
5. Paul tells ALL Christians that it is only the lost who will "not subject themselves to the Law of God neither indeed CAN they" (Rom 8:6-8)
6 Paul reaches all Christians under the NEW Covenant that God's LAW as known in (Jer 31:31-33) is "written on the heart and mind" (Heb 8:7-11)
7. Paul tells all Christians that the OT text is to be used for Doctrine (2Tim 3:16)
AND He never claims that "if I did not write it -- it is not scripture for us today" -- as one or two have imagined for us.
8. Paul tells all Christians that the 5th commandment is the "FIRST commandment with a promise" (Eph 6:1-2) and is binding on all Christians.
9. God's Law (10 commandments) are holy, just and good (Rom 7:12)
10. God's Law gives us a knowledge of what sin is (Rom 3:20; 7:7)
11. The penalty of breaking God's Law without Jesus is death (Rom 6:23)
12. If we break God's Law we dishonor God (Rom 2:23)
13. If we sin we are "under the Law" and guilty before God (Rom 3:19)
14. We are saved by faith but our faith establishes the Law in us (Rom 3:31)
15. If we are saved by grace we should not break God's Law (Rom 6:1-7)
16. We should not break God's Law if we are under grace (Rom 6:15)
17. We are to serve the Law of God through the mind because that is where sin starts (Rom 6:17; 7:25; 8:4; 12:2)
18. It is God's Law that brings us to Jesus (Gal 3:24)
19. God's salvation frees us from sin so we can be obedient to God's Law and live a life of holiness (Rom 6:22)
20. We will be judged by God's Law and only those that are obedient will be justified because of their faith (Rom 2:4-13)
21. God's Law can only be obeyed through love and a changed heart which comes by faith in God's Word (Rom 2:21-29; 13:9-10; Heb 8:9-10)
22. If we break God's Law and are in unrepentant sin we will be lost and will received God's judgements (Heb 10:26-27)

John affirms the 10 commandments……

1. John says it is only by keeping God’s 10 commandments that we know that we know God (1 John 2:3)
2. If someone says that they know God and do not keep God’s 10 commandments they are lying and not telling the truth (1 John 2:4)
3. We should purify ourselves as Jesus is pure (1 John 3:3)
4. Sin is the breaking of God’s 10 commandments (1 John 3:4)
5. Whoever is abiding in Christ does not commit sin (1 John 3:6; John 15:4-10)
6. If you are in unrepentant sin you have not seen Jesus or know him (1 John 3:6)
7. John warns us that only those that are obedience to God’s Law are his true followers (1 John 3:7)
8. If someone is committing unrepentant sin they are following the devil and not God (1 John 3:7)
9. If you are born of God and abiding in him you will not commit sin (1 John 3:9; 1 John 3:6; John 15:4-10)
10. It is the keeping of God’s commandments that is the difference between those that are following God and those that are not following God (1 John 3:10; 1 John 5:3)
11. It is only by Love through faith that we can keep God’s commandments (1 John 5:3-4)
12. God’s true believers in the end days will keep all of God’s commandments through faith in Jesus (Rev 14:12; 22:14)

James also affirms the 10 commandments…….

1. James says God’s Law (10 commandments) are a Royal Law (James 2:8)
2. If we break one of God’s commandments we a guilty before God as sinners breaking all of God’s Law and gave some examples of breaking God’s Law (James 2:9-11)
3. James says God’s Law is a law of liberty and freedom (James 2:12)
4. The 10 commandments (God’s Law) are the standard in the judgment (James 2:12)
5. If our faith does not have the fruit of obedience to God’s Law it is dead and not true faith (James 2:16-26)

Peter affirms the 10 commandments……..

1. Sanctification is to obedience to God’s Law (1 Pet 1:2)
2. We can only be changed from sin to obedience to God’s Law by the power of God and it will be revealed in the last days (1 Pet 1:5)
3. We should give up our sins to be holy because Jesus is holy (1 Pet 1:13-16)
4. Jesus is your example who did no sin (1 Pet 2:21-22)
5. Cease from sin and do not live in the flesh (1 Pet 4:1-3)
6. Judgement will begin at the house of God and sinners (those breaking God’s 10 commandments) will not be saved.
7. God has given us his precious promises and as we believe them God will grant us his divine power to live a life of Godliness (obedience to God’s Law; 2 Pet 1:2-4)
8. The Un-Godly (disobedient to God’s Law) will be like Sodom and Gomorrah (2 Pet 2:6)
9. If any turn away from God’s Law and are in unrepentant sin breaking any of God’10 commandments they will be lost (2 Pet 2:20-22)
10 God is not willing that any should perish but that everyone should come to repentance and turn away from sin to follow God’s 10 commandments because those that do not will receive the judgements of God (2 Pet 3:5-14)

What did Jesus and the Apostles teach about the Sabbath in the New Testament?

1. It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56)
2. Jesus made the Sabbath for all mankind (Hebrews 1:2; John 1:1-3; 14; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16-17; Mark 2:27)
3. Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2:28)
4. If you do not believe and follow God you cannot enter His Sabbath rest (Hebrews 4)
5. It is one of God’s 10 commandments we break it we are guilty or breaking all (James 2:8-12)
6. Breaking it is sin (1 John 3:4)
7. God’s true followers keep it Holy as God commanded (Rev 14:12; Rev 22:14; Eze 20:20)
8. Jesus is our example and he kept the Sabbath (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56; John 2:6; Matt 16:24; 1 Cor 11:1; Eph 5:1-21; Pet 2:20-22)
9. The Apostle kept the Sabbath (Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10)

Now these are ONLY A FEW SCRIPTURES ONLY IN THE NEW TESTAMENT. It seems like James, Peter, Paul and John all agree with Jesus that OBEDIENCE to God's LAW is the FRUIT of FAITH that works by LOVE and fulfills God's LAW in those that BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's WORD. If your FAITH does not have the FRUIT of OBEDIENCE to the 10 Commandments then you are still in your SINS and do not KNOW him who is calling you. If your tree has no FRUIT it is cast down and thrown into the FIRE.

Only God's Word is true and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW IT.

.....................

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

May God bless you as you seek him through His Word.

Wondering if your quoting from the bible here: If you are we are still in our sins since we are not in the Resurrection. Good thing for us "Sin shall not have dominion over you for you are not under the law but under Grace.
Grace is God's influence, exchanging His life with us: For us to exchange garments with Christ, taking the blame for His creation so that sinners enter in before those who are better than others. He did not come for the righteous but for sinners. Someone came in without a wedding garment and when asked, "Friend how did you get in without a wedding garment? The man was speechless." And was thrown out: If we could fulfill the law we would not be clothed with a garment of praise for salvation, thinking we had earned it.
Yes indeed I am quoting from the bible..........

The scripture says it is only those that hear and BELIEVE and FOLLOW God’s Word that receive everlasting life and are not condemned and have passed from death to life. If your tree has NO FRUIT it will be cast down and thrown into the fire. Many will come to him in that day professing to serve him but they never knew him or did not know him because they were practing SIN (breaking God's 10 Commandments). Please see Matthew 7:13-23; 1 John 2:3-4; 1 John 3:3-9; Hebrews 10:26-27)

But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

Romans 2:6,
Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

2 Corinthians 5:10,

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Revelations 20:12
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

Psalms 119:172,
My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are “righteousness”.

Hebrew meaning righteousness צדק tsedeq tseh'-dek From H6663; the right (natural, moral or legal) morally and legally right; righteous צדּיק tsaddı̂yq tsad-deek' From H6663; just: - just, lawful, righteous (man).

Greek meaning righteousness δικαιοσύνηdikaiosunēdik-ah-yos-oo'-nay From G1342; equity (of character or act); specifically (Christian) justification: - righteousness.
righteous δίκαιος dikaios dik'-ah-yos From G1349; equitable (right doing in character or act); by implication innocent, holy (absolutely or relatively): - just, meet, right (-eous)

So from God’s Word we have the definition of righteousness. God says the definition of “righteousness” according to His Word is his 10 commandments The Hebrew and Greek meaning of righteousness is to be morally and legally right; lawful character of act, innocent and holy (right doing).

Psalms 119:142,
Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.

Psalms 9:8
And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.

Act 17:31
Because he hath appointed a day, in which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

James 2:10-12
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. So speak, ye and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

Ecc 12:13-14
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

1 Peter 4:17,
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

So yep according to God’s Word there will be a judgement for all mankind and we will be judged according to God’s Word.

He that rejects me, and receives not my words, hath one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. (John 12:48)

Only God’s Word is true and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW it.

Hi LGF,

Have you missed anything? What else are you to do on the Sabbath..its a command you should know?

Also, Who did Moses say the 4th commandment was for?

I will post the scripture for you to read!

Deuteronomy 5:1-22English Standard Version Anglicised (ESVUK)

The Ten Commandments

5 And Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, “Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the rules that I speak in your hearing today, and you shall learn them and be careful to do them.

2 The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

3 Not with our fathers did the Lord make this covenant, but with us, who are all of us here alive today.

4 The Lord spoke with you face to face at the mountain, out of the midst of the fire,5 while I stood between the Lord and you at that time, to declare to you the word of the Lord. For you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up into the mountain.

He said:

6 “‘I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
7 “‘You shall have no other gods before me.
8 “‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
9 You shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 10 but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

11 “‘You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

12 “‘Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. 13 For six days you shall labour and do all your work,14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

-----

22 “These words the Lord spoke to all your assembly at the mountain out of the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the thick darkness, with a loud voice; and he added no more. And he wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.

Hi JLB nice to see you again my fiend.

Sorry friend we may need to agree to disagree on your interpretation of the scriptures

You cannot disregard the OLD Testament scriptures that are the foundation of the NEW Testament. The NEW Testament is built on the Old Testament and together they are the Word of God.

The scriptures shown earlier build on the OLD (Exodus 20:8-11) with Jesus teaching us that God's Sabbath was made for Mandkind and he is the LORD and the God of CREATION (Mark 2:27-28). He also teaches us that it is indeed lawful to do GOOD on the Sabbath (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56) and we are not to be budened by man made teaching around God's Sabbath because the Sabbath was made for mankind to be a delight not a buden.

Jesus is our example who kept the Sabbath as well as all those who followed him (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56; John 2:6; Matt 16:24; Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10)

God's Sabbath is the Lord's Day and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW him who calls us.

.................

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

No missed nothing my friend. I was quoting to you from Exodus 20:8 from God's 10 Commandments and have never disagreed with any of the above scriptures as God's Sabbath is a sign that God is sanctifying or saving His people from the World (Egypt). God's 4th Commandment however is a memorial of Creation where it was made for mankind. Of course we are to remember that God we were all slaves and sevants of SIN and severd the World (Egypt) but God delivered us with outstretched hands so that we are now free LOVE and FOllow him who loved us through Faith.

Exodus 20
8,
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9, Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10, But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY?>
11, For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Nice side shuffle, Can you now answer the question.. What does Moses say in Deut 5:1ff.

Of course we understand you may not like what Moses says here as it blows your argument out of the water. First of the commands where for those under the covenant made at Horeb (the mosaic covenant),, and in case you try and say the 10 commandments are different from the law please re read what Moses says:

22 “These words the Lord spoke to all your assembly at the mountain out of the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the thick darkness, with a loud voice; and he added no more. And he wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me
.

And of course what was on the tablets????? The tablets are the Covenant documents!

I'l reprint for you to read.

There has been no side shuffle and your answer has been adressed with God's Word. What is it that you disagree with and what is it you believe the scrptures are saying above that has disagreed with anything I have ben sharing with you? Hello Phil, well none of the above in your post there is true whatsoever my friend. I have already answered your question.

Why do you disagree with what I have said to you on post # 3329 linked?.

If you disagree with anything I have said please state your case and tell me why?

Just saying it is so because you say so does not mke something so. It is only on the Word of God we stand or fall. Seems you have also fallen.

Hi LGF,

Again another side step. I have checked back on your answers..you seem to cherry pick your texts... we are dealing with what Moses further enlightens (therefore God) on the law. We'r talking about Deut 5:ff not Ex 20:1ff

Hello UG,

Please make your case and show us from God's Word why it is you think those text posted with Phil disagree with anything I have posted?

They only agree with everything I have been posting. They do not disagree with anything I have posted. If you disagree please by all means make your case and share God's Word. If you cannot you should BELIEVE and FOLLOW the Word of God. SIN will keep you out of God's Kingdom.

It is you and your friend who are indeed cherry picking the scriptures in order for you to follow your tradition that lead others to break the Commandments of God.

..............

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

I would offer two kinds of laws that make up all the laws , signified by ten .

Two kinds of keeping's (guard close). Two kinds of laws that must be guarded closely. One as a moral law the other a shadow that preached the suffering of Christ beforehand (gospel) called ceremonial law used to govern ceremonies and not govern the morals of the whole world .

One we can be used to judge one another with, the other remind a shadow that cannot be worshiped.

Indeed very well written garee, this is what the OP is about. The Shadows have passed away (Mosaic laws and ordinaces written in the book of Moses for remission of sins)

The 10 are the knowledge of SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS. They make nothing perfect but point us to him who loves us so that by FAITH we can follow him who loves us. LOVE is the power of FAITH that fulfills the God's LAW in those who believe.

If our FAITH does not have the FRUIT then our tree will be cast down and thrown into the fire.

God's Word says that if we break one of God's Commandments we are guilty of breaking all of them.

........

In times of ignorance God winks at but when a knowldge of the truth is come calls all men everywhere to repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

May God bless you as you seek him through His Word.

phil36 has proven you (and ellen white ) wrong. by Scripture. ( not to mention, no one is sinless. and , sin is defined by knowing to do good and not doing so, not just command breaking).

Now gb9 you are a funny one indeed. Please show me how I have been proven wrong in anything?

If you cannot you should BELIEVE and FOLLOW him who calls you..
