I love this Bill...I was wondering recently about praying...A few days ago I start of Dear heavenly Father, and became dumb, I could not think of anything to pray, it is happening quiet a bit and it alarms me...
Your post has shown me that it is not just me, I wonder how common this is...xox...
Thank you for thatThis is usually a time when he wants to speak to you. Always remember, prayer is a 2 way conversation, and sometimes we all forget to listen. I know I forget all the time.
Thanks Blain and perhaps I misunderstood what he was saying. Highly possible.
To make myself as clear as I can about this whole speaking in tongues business.
1. The bible declares it as a gift and I believe it.
2. The bible declares many spiritual gifts and I believe it.
However, I do not count my being filled with the Holy Spirit as any less because I do not have/exercise this particular gift.
Hopefully, this will clarify any misconception about my beliefs.

Just learned something newWhen we are at a loss for words, the HS takes over as we sit quietly.
Yes I see this now, and thank you Blain...xox...Panic over...It does happen but you see while we are on the topic of tongues I have found there is more than one kind of tongues. When we don't have the words to speak there is what I call a language of the hearts, we don't have always have the words to speak nor do we always know what to say but the holy spirit is our intercessor and he knows our hearts better than we do and speaks to god for us using words that only he could speak.
I don't think these are times to be alarmed I think these are times when we need to be still and let the holy spirit speak on our behalf
No it is not unscriptural.Well, I do not see my position about "not speaking in tongues" as "unscriptural" nor do I deny anything in the scriptures. I do defend and uphold the fact that I have the HS within me which I was sealed with at the time of my salvation.
You are saying that unless I speak (pray) in tongues then I do not have the HS? That would be unscriptual I think.
No it is not unscriptural.
In the first church all spoke in tongues as the sign of receiving
the indwelling Holy Spirit.
This is reaffirmed throughout Acts multiple times for our benefit,
and compliance.
Jesus said emphatically that if we believed the gospel then we would
[shall] speak in new tongues.
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?
And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said,
Unto John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance,
saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come
after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them;
and they spoke with tongues, and prophesied.
7 And all the men were about twelve.
Acts 19:
Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?
It is not automatic that a believer receives the HS at confession
of faith as many claim.
Read Acts chapter 8
Converts believed the gospel and were baptized in water but as yet
the Holy Spirit had not come upon any of them.
How did the Apostles know this?
No it is not unscriptural.

Thanks stones, another great help...I was panicking, when I could not say anything like my mind went empty, I felt awkwardJust something I know isvtruth. When we don't know what to pray, begin to worship Jesus. If one has not ever worshipped in the spirit, then speak the psalms. Often this will release the gift.
Hello Star, I can tell you are a very kind, honest and loving person who loves God with all your heart! Thanks for your post!
I am sorry that some over zealous Pentecostal/Charismatic persons have saidOh yes and many a person has felt condemned because they do not speak in tongues.
Many told it's evidence of salvation. Was told once because I did not speak in tongues then I wasn't saved.
Waggles she is not saying anything bad about the gift of tongues she is saying that just because one does not have that particular gift doesn't mean they don't have the holy spirit.
My posts are challenging this claim by you. What is unscriptural is to say that if a person does not speak in tongues, they are not filled with the HS.
My posts are challenging this claim by you.
Go back and read my posts.
What the scriptures declare is that if you do not have
the sign [not the gift] of speaking in tongues then
you do not have the indwelling Holy Spirit.

We have all been given a gift.
What's more important?
Gifts or fruit?
Do they interact?
I am sorry that some over zealous Pentecostal/Charismatic persons have said
this to you.
I have heard it spoken myself in my Fellowship.
Whilst I believe that speaking in tongues is the sign of
being baptized in the Holy Spirit and Pentecostal faith is
much more compliant with the experience and doctrine of
the first century church - I would never declare that I am saved
by virtue of speaking in tongues and that someone else is not.
Salvation is very much dependent on our walk and our submitting
to the righteousness of God.
We shun the evil and do what is good and pleasing to our Father
in Heaven through Jesus our Lord and Saviour.
I guess for me it comes down to the issue of doing one's walk
either in your own strength and determination versus
doing one's walk and upholding one's testimony in the strength
and power of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
If your wife can speak in tongues then why not seek to receive
the Holy Spirit for yourself and then you too have this wonderful
powerful prayer language that delivers much.
Praying in the Holy Ghost is uplifting and refreshing.
A cup of coffee and 30 minutes of prayer to kickstart the day
off - recharges the batteries...
