Is Jimmy Swaggart's "Message Of The Cross" Biblical?

When we speak of the Cross of Christ and what was there accomplished, we aren't speaking of the wooden beam on which Jesus died. In fact, if someone found in Jerusalem the Cross on which Jesus died, and it could be proven as such, still, that wooden beam would not have any more power than a dead stick out in the road. It's not the wooden beam on which He died, although that was necessary, but it was what He there accomplished.

Sin was dealt with at the Cross of Christ and only at the Cross. So, for the Believer to have victory over sin, his Faith must be placed exclusively in Christ and the Cross. Then and only then can the Holy Spirit help him as it regards this problem that all of us face.

BTW Paul understood the issue of sin perfectly.In the flesh we fail,we keep struggling.But in the spirit,with the Lords help we can overcome our sin nature. Simple.Swaggart knows this.

The Cross means the same thing as the Blood of Jesus and the Finished Work at Calvary.

Glad you cleared that up because In the commentary almost every comment emphasizes the cross SO much,I was starting to wonder If I was missing something about the cross although Swaggert doesn't believe In OSAS.

I like the idea of most of your concepts I just don't understand the hang-up of the cross.


Why is the cross more important than the resurrection? That I don't understand at all.

IMO,the cross Is more Important than the resurrection because the resurrection Is PROOF to all those that BELIEVE In the WORD of GOD that every thing JESUS said Is TRUTH I mean If HE said HE would rise In three days and people knew that there was no coming back from death and HE did rise and people saw HIM alive after HE was dead and buried,then they would be assured that HE was true.

If JESUS had not died as a man for our sins on the CROSS no one would be able to make It In because we would have had to fulfill the law In our own strength and all would have come short of the glory of GOD not being perfect because of the weakness of the flesh even though the Spirit was willing.

So then Grace was made available to all those who believe by means of the cross and we can be sure that this Is true because JESUS rose from the dead.

We place our faith in Christ and what He accomplished at the cross. The cross itself has no power,the power is in who He was and what He did.

I listened to Jimmy Swaggart's Message of the Cross for a few years, and it had no effect on my life. I sought the Lord about this, and He helped me to understand that Jimmy is only preaching half of the gospel. The whole gospel is Christ, who was crucified and raised from the dead. Salvation - which includes the entire economy of God's redemptive plan - that is justification, sanctification, and redemption - are by faith in Christ, Him crucified, and Him raised from the dead. Just as Roman 10:8-10 explains, "[FONT=&quot]8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”[e] (that is, the word of faith which we preach): [/FONT][FONT=&quot][/FONT][FONT=&quot]9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. [/FONT][FONT=&quot][/FONT][FONT=&quot]10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." What I had trouble understanding was what Paul referred to as the message of the cross. And the Lord finally helped me to understand this message. First, the message of the cross is not simply about the historical event of Christ's crucifixion. That is one aspect of the message and central to it's core. In addition to the historical event of the cross, the scriptures speak of lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world. This points to the cross in eternity past. As well, Revelation speaks of the "slain Lamb" standing in the midst of the throne. This points to the cross in eternity now and forever. Paul used the Greek perfect tense when he wrote about "Christ crucified." The Greek perfect tense indicates a past historical even that was completed but has ongoing results. Thus, Christ's crucifixion has eternal ongoing results in the here and now and forever. And in reality, the cross originated from God before the worlds and has always existed for it is the great revelation of God's love for us. The cross and the resurrection are two interrelated, inseparable events that should be called the Finished Work of Christ. They are two sides of the same coin, you might say. Pick up coin and imagine the cross is represented by the tails side and resurrection by the heads side. When we take of the cross and the resurrection this should be our view of them both - two events that cannot be separated in the person of Christ. Jesus is now and forever the slain, resurrected Lamb still bearing the wounds of Calvary - the cross, before the throne forever. This is what the Lord showed me, and it has given me victory over sin like never before in my life. Just read Romans 6,7, and 8, and you will see this. Paul wrote, "Reckon yourselves therefore to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." We reckon ourselves dead to sin through the cross. We reckon ourselves alive to God through the resurrection. Blessings in Christ![/FONT]
