Do you trust what the Apostles said about Jesus Christ return?

The apostles, fully expected, and taught and encouraged, believers in their day to believe that Jesus Christ was coming back to them then, on his way, that it was gonna happen soon, and quickly.

If Jesus Christ own Apostles believed this where did they get this information; this inspiration from? They were taught by Jesus Christ Himself.

If the Apostles where wrong and they misunderstood Jesus Christ, should we trust anything that they said?

If Jesus Christ Apostles where wrong about when they said He would return, How can we trust anything about the bible has said?

Well They were not wrong, they were inspired by God, and the holy spirit, and they where telling the truth.

I'm gonna share some scripture about where it talks about the Lord's coming back then in their day whom were being wrote to, it is up to your own decision to either accept all this information as true or false, and ask questions if you wish.

James 5:7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand (near).

9 Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned.[a] Behold, the Judge is standing at the door! Who is the Judge?

Hebrews (Written to Jewish Converts) 10:22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (The same Day that Jesus Christ is talking about Matthew 24)
26 For if we sin (Deny the Faith/stop having faith in Christ) willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 27: Is talking about the coming judgement for those who leave the faith or just deny it, as well as the same day that Jesus Christ is talking about in Matthew 24)

35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:

37 “For yet a little while,
And He[f] who is coming will come and will not tarry.
38 Now the[g] just shall live by faith;
But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”[h] Who will come?

1 John 2:17-18
17 And the world (Age) passeth away (all the old covenant, jewish temple, geneologies), and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever (To believe on the Son of God - Lord Jesus Christ is the will of God).

18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. (The Last time of the standing Jewish Temple / Old Covneant/ geneologies the Age was going to end)

28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we (they) may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

1 John 3: 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we (they) shall be like him; for we (they) shall see him as he is.

1 Peter 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall-(will soon short period of time) be revealed:

1 Peter 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd (Jesus's return) shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

1 Peter 4:5 5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. Who is coming to Judge?

1 Peter 4: 7 But the end (End of the Jewish temple, covenant, geneologies) of all things is at hand (near): be ye (them) therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

Luke 21:22 22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. (The End of Jeruslem / The end of the Age of those days)

Romans 8: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall-(short period of time) be revealed in us.

Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand (near/judgement day): let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

2 Timothy 4:6 6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand (paul's death was near at hand).

Anything has to with at it's at hand deals with being near. It's like if you have your phone near you, it's at hand and ready to be grabbed.

Do you think any of this would have been true for them back then? Or do you think that Jesus Christ will still come to us now or was it to them then?

They weren't wrong - the expectations surrounding his return in the 1st century AD promoted by the futurist theologies are wrong in that they expect a woody literal fulfilling of prophecy.

We have people on here claiming the Peter should have stopped quoting Joel at Acts 2:18 because they don't believe the rest of the prophecy occurred according to their woody literal expectations.

Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

Acts 2:18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

Acts 2:19 And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

Acts 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

Has Jesus Christ returned?
[/h]No. He has NOT returned (to earth). If you want to see when and how He will return, read the book of Revelation.

Also, plain observation and common sense should tell you that He has not returned. Look around you and ask yourself "Would this world be in such a mess if Jesus Christ had returned to earth?"

NO. He said when he is returning, everyone, every tribe, every nation will witness it.
He also said, people will try to deceive others claiming they Christ (don't know how they plan to do that though).
The world around us is the first sign he gave us of His coming. Try not to rush to "interprete" scriptures. Misinterpreting them can adversely affect a soul.
God Bless.

Nehemiah6, Okay thank you for sharing this with us my friend.

My view of the world may not be exactly the same as yours is, and that is understandable.
I don't believe that world is in a mess.

Because the view to be seen by me, is like "The world is fine, it will never end, there will always be people here and no end to any generation that comes and goes." - Glory to God for this because, Jesus Christ's kingdom will never stop growing either because of this!

I don't see a whole lot of random murderous killings happening in the street every single day, or any thing really crazy either, and media can hype many things up.

But people do see things differently in this life through experiences, and trails, and things we all put up with.

JoshMal, I agree with you, study for yourself, and go to God, for answers. Also, if you like to do word studying for deeper meaning of what the greek language may say you are always welcome and open to do that for yourself as well for help in your studies.

Now that I have replied to you I just wanted to say this.

You know it is amazing how you can know that the Lord Jesus Christ is with you every day, just as God is and the Holy Spirit.

God loves everyone in this universe-(world), He sent his son Jesus Christ, to die and paid for all sin, so that the wrath of God could be tooken away, from those who could not bear it, giving Him life again by raising from Him the dead.

God cares about everything going on in your life, and everyone elses too.

Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

If you think the "world is fine" you might want to get out more. Go spend a night in inter cities, and if you survive, post what you see.

consider that 2 Peter 3 was written after 70 AD and that Peter was executed by Nero around 63 AD.
Consider that the apostles may be wrong about saying Jesus' return is near but they were right about his resurrection proven by the miracles done in His name.
consider the end of Daniel 9 70x7 weeks doesn't occur until about 2000 years after Jesus death.
consider the temple was destroyed in the middle of the 7 year war with the Romans
consider the green wood/dry wood prophecy of Jesus in Luke 23. How would the apostles know what he means?
consider Luke 21 does not include the phrase abomination that desolates like Matthew 24 and Mark 13.

The Only return was Gods return as the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.. But this is not the second coming spoken of by Jesus when all the tribes of the world would see Him coming in the clouds.. It is sad that people actually think that the second coming of Jesus has already occurred..

And it is a delusion to think this world is a great place to live in.. It is a fallen world with many evil people doing evil things to each other.. We live in assurance that this state of the world will come to an end one day :) if people think the current state of the world is ok then i do pity them..

Adstar, You say the only return was God's return as the holy spirit on the day of Pentecost. Thank you for your reply.

The reason I made this post was to have information at hand, for people who may not understand about the Lord Jesus Christ, and His coming, as told by the Apostles.

I understand that there are many views and beliefs, when it involves talking about the return and coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

There are some who say that it could happen tomorrow.

There are some who say that it could happen in their lifetime, some where.

There are some who say that it could happen and be raptured, and tribulations starts, and the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ judges the whole wide world.

There are some that say that it may not happen in their lifetime but it could.

There are some that say a one world govement will unite, and there will be a global take over, and the anti-christ raises up to power and bring destruction for 3 year 1/2 after a time of peace of 7 years.

I do not believe any of these things will happen, I believe all of these things where suppose to happen to the people whom it was written to back then when they first received the message they got from John in revelation.

The coming of the Lord Jesus Christ did come to pass!

The revelation is given to John and he was to write and send the message to the seven churches at the time that they where around, and believers around at that time. Because this was something that was going to happen soon was the return and victory if the Lord Jesus Christ, and Gods judgment in crushing the temple, ending the age of material religion, ending of the priesthood, genealogy, sacrifice, wiping it all away clean so we can live a life in Christ Jesus by the holy spirit in loving God, and loving others.

No, at least I haven't seen him around :).. I don't think its anything a person needs to wonder about, because its not something anyone will miss. "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God.... and every eye shall see him" (1 Thes 4:16 - Rev 1:7).

Hello MatthewG,

Do you trust what the Apostles said about Jesus Christ return?

You are correct in that the disciples expected the Lord to return in their lifetime and that because His return was and has always been imminent. Like the traditional Jewish wedding process, the bridegroom would be betrothed to his bride and then go back to the Father's house to prepare a place for her. In the mean time, the bride would always have to be watching and ready for the bridegroom's return. This is exactly what Jesus did. He paid the price (dowery) for his bride the church (the shedding of his blood) and went to the Father's house to prepare a place for His bride the church. We, the bride, must be watching and ready when the bridegroom arrives where he will take His bride the church, back to those places he prepared for us in the Father's house.

From the on-set of the church until this present day, every generation of believers has been watching for the bridegroom, because we the bride don't know at what time the Bridegroom is coming back.

Another example of the imminency of the Lord's return for his church, is seen when Jesus said the following:

"
If the owner of the house had known in which watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.
For this reason, you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him."

Like the good man of the house who has to keep watch because he doesn't know what time the thief is going to break in, believers in Christ also have to keep watch because we don't know when the Lord is going to come back, therefore we always have to be watching and ready.

Therefore, even though the first century church believed that Jesus was coming back in their time, that obviously was not the case. And it has been the same for every successive generation up to this very day. It can't be claimed until it happens.

Greetings Enoch987,

Consider that the apostles may be wrong about saying Jesus' return is near but they were right about his resurrection proven by the miracles done in His name.

First of all, the reason that they thought it was near, is because no time or date was given as to when he would return, except for all of the signs that he gave them when they asked him what the signs of his coming would be and the end of the age, none of which have taken place.

And second, I don't know why you would say that the disciples were right about his resurrection, because they didn't believe it. If they had, they would have been waiting outside the tomb after sunset of the third day for the Lord to rise. Even after the women went and told the disciples that he had risen, they did not believe them. When the Lord did appear to those gathered behind closed doors, they told Thomas that they had seen the Lord and Thomas didn't believe them. So, how can you say that the disciples were right about his resurrection?

The destruction of the Temple in A.d. 70 The Judgement of Jerusalem. The end of Material Religion. Jesus Christ talked about coming back, as the Son of Man, who would end up judging the world as they knew it at the time back then, was going to come back and destory the Temple, because Jesus Christ Himself Said so, in Matthew 24. (I believe this happened and was fulfilled) - Matthew 24 : 1-2

Dan58 - :)

Ahwatukee, - herefore, even though the first century church believed that Jesus was coming back in their time, that obviously was not the case. And it has been the same for every successive generation up to this very day. It can't be claimed until it happens. - It couldn't have not been the case dear friend. They had to believed He was coming soon, even Jesus Christ gave them forwarning it would be with-in a generation that all things should pass before the generation passes away.

Matthew 24: 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Some say that this means our generation now, but that would actually spand out to be a lot when look at how many people and how old they are, between different generation. I would say this in matthew 24 is talking about their very own generation passing away. The number of years a generation is 40 years for one generation.

Numbers 32:13 And the LORD'S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

I don't understand how people miss that the Lord Jesus Christ lives with-in them, and that He is with those who believe on Him every day. Yet they wait for Jesus Christ to return from the clouds in the sky even now today, when these messages where given to the believers back then at the time, when everything was written.

Jesus Christ's Kingdom is not of this world, but it is that of the Kingdom of God/heaven.

Your error is the same as it is for many who misinterpret "this generation" as referring to Jesus' generation. It is also grammatically incorrect. Jesus said:

"when you see the fig tree and all the trees blossoming, you know that summer is near." Likewise, when you see all of these things happening, know that the end He is near, right at the door. Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all of these things have happened."

Trees blossoming = Summer is near

Signs Taking Place
= The Lord near to end the age

Therefore, just like we can know that summer is near because the trees are blossoming, in the same way when we see all of those signs taking place we can know that Christ's return is near.

The problem is that you have no fulfillment of the wrath of God, via the seals, trumpets and bowl judgment which must take place prior to the Lord's return.

The antichrist and false prophet must also appear prior to the Lord's return.

We have not seen the two witnesses appear on the earth performing their plagues.

The inhabitants of the earth would have had to see Christ arriving on the clouds of the sky, where at which time he would have sent out his angels to first gather all of the wicked to be killed.

When did the battle of Armageddon take place? The world has not seen this event.

None of those things have been fulfilled and must take place prior to Christ's return to the earth to end the age. And speaking of the end of the age, Rev.19:11-21 is a detailed account of Christ's return to the earth to end the age, which is listed below:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse. And its rider is called Faithful and True. With righteousness He judges and wages war. 12He has eyes like blazing fire, and many royal crowns on His head. He has a name written on Him that only He Himself knows. 13He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood,a and His name is The Word of God.
14The armies of heaven, dressed in fine linen, white and pure, follow Him on white horses. 15And from His mouth proceeds a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with an iron scepter.b He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God, the Almighty. 16And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
17Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out in a loud voice to all the birds flying overhead, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18so that you may eat the flesh of kings and commanders and mighty men, of horses and riders, of all men slave and free, small and great.”
19Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies assembled to wage war against the One seated on the horse, and against His army. 20But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed signs on his behalf, by which he deceived those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. Both of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. 21And the rest were killed with the sword that proceeded from the mouth of the One seated on the horse.
And all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Regarding the above, you have zero fulfillment. Furthermore, after the event above begins, the thousand year reign of Christ takes place and that hasn't happened.

MatthewG, bible says that Jesus returns for 3 reasons, take the church/ believers in Christ away; for to defeat the enemy of the folk of Israel, judge the world and for to rule in Jerusalem during millenium.The last 3 reasons are belonging together. Non of these events have takeing place till today. If you really claim that Jesus has already returned then you belongs to those people who destroying the faith of people in saying the Lord has already come.

And you answered not my question when he came.

Maybe that's because when Jesus returns on the clouds of the sky, scripture states that "all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see him." Rev.1:7 also supports this event saying:

"
Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him—even those who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. So shall it be! Amen.

So, I don't understand how you could misinterpret the scripture as meaning that Jesus spiritually lives within each believer, instead of what the scripture states, which is that he will arrive on the clouds of the sky and every eye will see him and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him?

This is an on-going problem as well, where expositors interpret scripture that is meant to be taken literally and they instead spiritualize or symbolize what is meant to be taken literally.
