Think about it for a minute...

How credible would it be, if a man appeared in court, and claimed that his friend told him about the details of an accident, therefore he was qualified to testify about it?

Ludicrous.

Why would I believe someone who calls himself an Apostle, who never saw the resurrection? I totally believe the Apostles who wrote Scripture, or dictated it to an assistant. They had first-hand experience with the risen Jesus, and were qualified. No one today can meet those qualifications.

Those who call themselves Apostles of Christ today are, quite bluntly, either outright liars, deceived, or mentally ill.

Note that I am not addressing "apostles" in the sense of church-planters or missionaries. I realize that some use this title to refer to those offices. I am not talking about "apostles of the church" either...those sent by the church for a specific purpose.

In relation to this topic, I recommend this article:

Are There Still Apostles Today? | The Cripplegate

It outlines three qualifications for an apostle, and NO ONE today can meet those qualifications.

Regarding those who would say I don't believe in the five-fold ministry..yes, I do. I have the ministry of the apostles which are contained in Scripture..their eyewitness accounts.

When will the church ever stop listening to prideful men, and start addressing them sharply on these issues?

Remember, real Apostles are those who are credible eyewitnesses.

I have tested those who claim to be apostles today, and found them FALSE. They were not eyewitnesses to the resurrected Jesus, so they are FALSE. It isn't hard to apply that test and find that all claimants are FALSE today.

Rev 2:2 “‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false."

And, for those who are making such claims, be aware that you will be facing Jesus in one of the resurrections. You should be trembling in your shoes for making such claims.

Quit playing ego games with God, repent and admit your foolishness.

Rev.2:9 and 3:9 are 2 churches of the end times that Christ found no fault with, therefore whoever teaches what they teach are true Apostles, your claim that nobody knows the truth is false. God bless

Hhhhmmmm aren't you the same guy that posted a rather disparaging thread condemning us all on Christian Chat as being entrenched goats and errant Christians worthy of rebuke?

Weren't you quitting CC to engage people in the real world rather than waste your time on CC?

"DO WE REALIZE WE ARE IN A WAR? SHOOTING OUR OWN TROOPS - THE FAVORITE PASTIME OF SOME"

I see you're back getting stuck into others again.

I have a relationship with God through the Spirit of truth who has lead me to the true church.
Would you like to come to a meeting?

Is there an 'apostolic movement' in the UK Lucy? That's what he's on about. Here in the US there are certain shenanigans...

I like checking out thread titles and reading some of the replies.I've never seen anyone call themselves an Apostle. There was a guy I've heard about locally,so I decided to check out his Facebook, where he liked to fancy himself a Apostle, among other things, such as Prophet. He also liked to post about all the 'good' things he done recenty and people he saved.
The guy is a minister belonging to some church. His sheep just ate it all up.

I doubt there are any Apostles right now.Not like any of the 12 where Jesus unlocked their minds to the scriptures just before the book of Acts.Nobody has that kind of wisdom today. There are future Apostles though who stand on mount Zion along side the Lamb.

So apostle is eye witness of the direct teaching Of Jesus Christ?

how about apostle Paul, he come to Christ after Jesus left earth, did he witness direct teaching of Jesus ?

From the offered article.. triple gate

At the outset, we should note that by “apostles” we do not simply mean “sent ones” in the general sense. Rather, we are speaking of those select individuals directly appointed and authorized by Jesus Christ to be His immediate representatives on earth. In this sense, we are speaking of “capital A” apostles – such as the Twelve and the apostle Paul.

The one meaning of the word apostle simply mean “sent ones”. There is only one sense the word can be used. (sent ones) Adding new meaning to a word changes the intent of the author.

There are 25 listed apostles in the New Testament. Twelve of thirteen where set aside for a certain one purpose to be used in a parable found in Revelation 21.

And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. And the wall of the (same) city (same wife) had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. Rev 21:9

twelve apotles as sent ones

The description in that parable clearly represents "one wife" the bride of Christ the church.

She is sent as a apostle two by two out into the world to make disciples of men so that they also could enter the gate of fellowship with Christ the husband. He is the door by which we enter in and are sent out.

There is no need to change the meaning of the word "sent ones".

So apostle is eye witness of the direct teaching Of Jesus Christ?

how about apostle Paul, he come to Christ after Jesus left earth, did he witness direct teaching of Jesus ?

Yes directly through the witness of God the Holy Spirit

It is the word of God that is the witness not the feet of the apostles. We do not receive the witness of men as if it was of God. We bear the witness of one not seen . We lost that witness of the unseen in the garden when mankind experienced doing the will of another, as that seen (walking by sight)

1John 5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

Paul was taught by Christ personally while he was in Arabia and also at other times. He was also an eye-witness of the glorified and risen Christ when he met Him on the road to Damascus.

Yea.. you can have a look at what apostles really were like in the bible and their credentials to be one.

One of them is as you say being eye witnesses of Jesus Christ.

These were particularly chosen people also.

I'm a believer.. may be one day get to b a deacon or pastor.. but no apostle

Believers as a kindgsdom of priest are apostles. He sends them out two by two giving meaning to the word .

Their credentials are sent ones, ones sent with the words of prophecy of another, as prophets . Apostles are prophets and vise versa. Adding new meaning to a single word violates the warning not to add another meaning in Deuteronomy 4 .

Deu 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

If a person feels called to bring the gospel then they are a apostle .The word has to do with His superpowers to send. The apostles are no different than any other man . we are not to think of any man above that which is written which would include the apostles. This is new testament or old the word did not change meaning from the old to the new.

Moses or Abel were not any less an apostle (sent by God) than was Paul .

12 a remnant of the 25 apostles listed in the new testament are set a side for a certain purpose. Changing the meaning destroys the purpose.Find the meaning find the gospel hid.

Paul was taught by Christ personally while he was in Arabia and also at other times. He was also an eye-witness of the glorified and risen Christ when he met Him on the road to Damascus.

We walk by faith the unseen eternal not by the eye witness of men as that seen the temporal .God does not accept the witness of men. The witness of His Spirit as it is written is the greater as one there witnessing the affairs of men as he works in men to both will and do His good pleasure.

Christ teaches us all personally .He warns us of those antichrists who say we do need a man to teach us .His promised teaching teaches all things as it guides and comforts us and brings to mind that which he has taught. He will not share that glory with man as things seen.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Although some did know Christ the Holy Spirit of God it was never after the flesh . When men tried to eulogize his flesh he would in effect call them faithless .Because the one time demonstration is over we would never know Christ again by the things seen. We walk by faith, the unseen eternal , not by sight as that seen the temporal .

God is not a man as us and neither is there any daysman as a fleshly mediator between God and man to umpire between the the things of God not seen, and those of men as that seen.

He appeared once in the flesh the veil remains rent.

2Co 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we himno more.

Hello sparkman,

I'm a little late in the thread to reply, But I find it necessary to reply to your post due to some discrepancies.

I'm right there with you about many of these 'fly-by-nights' calling themselves apostles when they are not.

But some of these other things are wrong, probably because of how men have taught us wrong.

For example, there's only one place in the Bible where the word 'apostle' was capitalized:
Hebrews 3:1 (KJV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

All others are small 'a'.

We have taught ourselves to capitalize apostle because of our respect for the apostles. That was because we deem "apostle" as a 'title', & not as a calling.

This has happened thru the RCC & probably the Church of England, because they both consider them titles of authority.

Actually there's no titles given in the NT at all except to Jesus. :)

Yes, it is true that the twelve & Paul were eyewitnesses of Jesus, but nowhere in scripture is there a qualification listed that apostles HAVE to be eyewitnesses of Jesus.

Also, I believe the church has been guilty of giving the calling of apostle, which simply means 'messenger', or 'sent one', a "sky-high" status above the other callings, even though God didn't establish a hierarchy of religious power on earth. Each ministry is a servant ministry, as Jesus told the 12 they were. Even with our callings, the ground is still level at Calvary.

Matthew 20:25-28 (KJV)
[SUP]25 [/SUP] But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. [SUP]26 [/SUP] But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; [SUP]27 [/SUP] And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: [SUP]28 [/SUP] Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

I still believe these callings exist, because the Bible says so, & it NEVER said they went away.
:)

Not directly, but indirectly. If the Bible says that there are only TWELVE APOSTLES of the Lamb, that settles the matter.

And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. (Rev 21:14).

It's not complicated. While Jesus was alive, He chose 12 apostles. Paul was chosen after Jesus returned to the Father.

Jesus has others that He sends.

Besides, why would Paul write to the church in the list of ministries, putting apostles at the top of the list, if God wasn't gonna use them anymore?
