Tonight I’m making homemade BBQ pizza, because my family loves it. Growing up, my mom did a pizza night once a week- the three of us kids each had a job to do; I always got stuck grating the mountain of mozzarella that four large pizzas required. I miss those nights, though. I guess that’s why I do my own version of pizza night now...though I use technology to my advantage and that way nobody has to grate the cheese.

Do you have things your parents used to do that you’ve made your own in your life as an adult? Or fun traditions you miss? And do you want some pizza? :D

i saw the word pizza, and now i'm here lol.

a tradition my family had was in winter time, we would drink coffee before going to sleep. i'm not sure if that will fly with my husband and mother-in-law. lol!

In my family we have a tradition that whenever anybody has a birthday, the family has a family dinner. Maybe at Grandma's house, maybe at uncle Brent's, maybe at a restaurant of the birthday person's choosing, but we're going to get together for a dinner.

We also have a tradition of Christmas breakfast. Christmas morning we all descend on Grandma's house and eat a good ole suthern breakfast and then play Dirty Santa.

Aunt Diane has made a tradition of making me a cheese ball for Christmas. This tradition I heartily approve. :D Mostly cream cheese, with some shredded cheddar, diced ham, diced bell pepper, a bit of some spices, all in a ball and rolled in chopped pecans. Delicious!

Dirty Santa?

I thought I might catch more people with pizza :p

Was it decaf coffee? Or were you all immune to caffeine?

Everybody brings a wrapped present, everybody draws a number. Number 1 goes first and picks a present. Number 2 can either take Number 1's present or pick from the wrapped presents. If somebody steals your present you can steal anybody else's (except the present you just lost) or get another wrapped present. By the time you get to Number 14, the most popular present that has already been unwrapped has been stolen a good four or five times.

My mom taught me how to cook rice and I used to be able to cook it perfectly without even measuring. But then I stopped cooking rice for several years and now I would have to measure again...

One family tradition is to have cake on every birthday...with chips. I always thought this was normal until a friend had ice cream and cake. Not that I didn't like it but I like the balance of cake and chips. Sweet and salty. We also have some coke with the cake. Yeah...I know...it's a sugar fest. That's why we love birthdays in my family. ;)

For Christmas, if my family from SA goes to visit grandma and my aunts, we all go sleep on Christmas Eve at my aunt's house. Some of us sleep in the living room with air mattresses but it's so much fun. We spend most of the night making tamales and eating Christmas cookies. Sometimes we go to midnight mass (they are Catholic). Then my cousins wake up super early to open their gifts and we all gather around to watch them open their gifts. Usually the adults just get gift cards. But we do open a few gifts. It's a very fun time in my family. And yes...we have cake for Jesus' birthday too!

When I was really young we lived in an old house with very insulation, so on the coldest winter nights we'd all pull our mattresses into the living room where the best heater was and it would just so happen to be the one night a year the wizard of Oz came on. So we'd all watch the movie in our pallets on the floor.

Now my mom, my siblings and their kids get together about every 2 months for a game night where we play silly games and eat snacks and just enjoy being together. I love getting to be with all 7 of my nieces and nephews at one time.

*note.. my dad is still alive he just doesn't participate cause he is a grouch lol.

I think I will always scroll down, before asking questions like that, in the future! yep!:o

Did someone say pizza? I'm really hungry.

This isn't from my childhood, but after my son started preschool, his mother would make home made pizza every friday I picked him up. She made the dough in a bread maker, it so good. She used mozzarella cheese that was whole milk, the kind that only comes in blocks. It was so good. I would take my son by the redbox, he would pick a movie out. We would eat pizza and watch the movie. The pizza was so good. I know how to make it, but lack motivation now. My kids were so happy those nights, I was too.
