How Do You Read The Bible?

I have read it from Gen to Rev a few times. Since then I skip around, studying in chunks or by themes. Sometimes I will read a particular book again or a section to try to keep familiar with it. I'm on to my third one with notes written all over it so they look quite tatty, like a workbook. I do keep some editions and different language translations unmarked for study purposes but my main bible looks very used.
I love the bible....when I read I ask for the Lord to open my eyes to the truth.....and tragic thing...My cousin one time went in to seek guidance from a pastor of one of the "big, wealthy, successful" churches and when she asked for guidance he did exactly what you said....closed his eyes, opened the bible and put his finger down and started reading to her.....she got up and walked out and never went back to that foolishness.......
I didn't mean it that way, LOL. I meant that I read the whole first letter to the Corinthians for example. I don't start at Gen. I have in the past. But now I am more interested in the historical, cultural, and literary context. Stuff I can get in a good study Bible. Like, what is the main theme of the book?, who wrote it?, what was going on at the time? etc. Most people randomly open the Bible, if at all, and just start reading out of its literary and historical context and have no idea what the auther is actually saying.
See, I never know where to read. I find certain parts of the bible boring (like the who begat who, lol). But I like Psalms, Proverbs, Ephesians, and Matthew through John. 
For yrs I skipped over the "boring" chapters in the Bible like the begats and tribe placements in Numbers I think. But they actually contain some of the most breathtaking proofs of how Jesus Christ is everywhere, through the incredible design by the Holy Spirit of Scripture: For instance, The apparently boring begats in Genesis 5: disclaimer - THIS IS NOT MY RESEARCH

That's rather remarkable:
Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow; (but) the Blessed God shall come down teaching (that) His death shall bring (the) despairing rest.
Here's the Gospel hidden within a genealogy in Genesis!
Similar coolness in the arrangement of the 12 tribes around the Tabernacle. Looking down, the shape of the tribes is a Cross! With the Ark of the Covenant right in the middle. That is what the Lord would see.
