People are people, where ever you go. This site is not exempt from human nature just because it’s a Christian site, supposedly full of Christians. Oh, there’s plenty of kind and loving people on here who share the love of Christ in humility and often a dose of humor- they’re here, you just have to pay attention.
We're still in the flesh, and like Paul said, we war against our flesh every single day......not saying that those who are mean aren't Christian, but they aren't exactly exhibiting the fruits when they get mean or judgmental as you say. Welcome to CC by the way 
raving wolves in sheep clothing.. It is a known fact that wolves attack sheep, and sheep flee from them to stay alive. But the good SHEPARD IS ALWAYS THEIR TO PROTECT US.
There's also a lot of people who get themselves into stupid situations and ask for advice.. Sometimes the answers aren't mean, they are just honest responses that aren't always easy to hear. E.g; Someone might say, "My husband beats me everyday, what should I do?" One person answers, "You poor thing, I'll pray for you" and another answers, "Dump the bum and leave him". Odd's are, the victim will respond more favorably to the compassionate response, while considering the logical answer to be rude and uncaring.
Sometimes disagreement is simply "perceived" as being mean.
People dislike conflict, and people are often touchy and insecure, especially if their world views, or their sacred cows, are challenged.
So disagreement is often "perceived" as an assault, and often it is not an assault at all... it's just a disagreement.
It's much like when a child says "You're always YELLING AT ME to clean my room"... and upon reflection you're quite certain there was no yelling, and not even any animosity... you simply told the child something the child DID NOT LIKE.
Of course people DO say mean things; that does happen.
But most of the time people simply don't like conflict, and they "feel" assaulted whenever their views are challenged.
That happens here almost constantly in every single thread.
If you're going to debate, you need to put on your big girl panties... oh wait... was that mean?

It's a great question, but it takes a sincere christian with genuine motives to ask themselves that question. Leave the negative behind and focus on the positive. Blessings.
Apart from people having a bad day (we all have bad days), if you are referring to the Christian bigots on this site, well here is some info on that, so that you can observe better how they work. I think bigotry is one of the most toxic things to Christianity, and much of it 'generally' stems from the ever prideful country of America. If you take offence to that, when I'm simply referring to a piece of geography, well, you are probably one of these people.
While Christianity internationally is usually about kindness and humility, charity, loving one another, sharing, caring; to a bigot it is about being morally superior to everyone with differing views, and it doesn't matter how kind hearted you are, if you do not share their view, there is something wrong with you, and most likely you are not saved, because they are definitely saved of course.
Bigots Fear Change:
Christian Bigots hate change and see it as an attack on their beliefs. Since their Bible is inerrant and their God is unchanging, new ideas are dangerous and subversive to their perfect theology. Perfection cannot be improved upon, so any variation or contradiction is perceived as absurd. Bigots hate discovery, creativity is often prohibited, and new ideas are threatening to their way of life.
Bigots Are Often (But Not Always) Privileged:
Change is hard to accept when things are working in your favor. As the common expression goes: “Why change a good thing?” Any theology, idea or sermon that challenges people to sacrifice or reach beyond their comfort zones isn’t easily accepted.
Bigots defend their position so passionately because the greatest beneficiaries of their worldview are themselves. But when people are persecuted, abandoned, ignored or powerless, their perspective changes and becomes open to different paradigms. These new paradigms are invisible and seem illogical to those that live in comfort and authority.
Bigots Crave Power:
Bigots want control, and they view their faith as a war of attrition. They use battle terminology to describe the gospel and prefer to preach, yell and shout instead of listen, discuss and learn. They declare statements instead of asking questions and refuse to engage in meaningful dialogue.
They prefer political might over spiritual strength, legal enforcement over personal choice, conscription over evangelism, punishment over grace, fear over hope, and control over love. In extreme cases, even violence and aggression is viewed as a necessary means of gaining power.
The Future is Scary:
Christian Bigots believe that the Apocalypse is going to happen sooner rather than later—possibly tomorrow. They assume people are becoming more depraved every passing minute. The Gays, Liberals and Abortionists are ruining the world, and every single negative news event is proof that God is judging the world and that The End is near.
The Past was Beautiful:
Bigots lack humility, and they refuse to admit they were ever wrong. They forget—or refuse to admit—that many aspects of the past were worse than the present. Not only did Christians ruthlessly kill and torture in the name of God, but where was the Church when children were being molested, millions were being persecuted and killed, unfair taxes were bankrupting entire communities, and Christians consistently turned a blind eye to injustice, the poor, and those who were in desperate need of help?
These past sins of Christianity don’t exist for Bigots. Their words, actions and lives are skewed by a misguided sense of self-righteousness and virtue. They hold the moral high ground while everyone else is simply wrong.
Bigots are Exclusive:
Bigots have an Us vs. Them mentality and believe that only those who strictly agree with their beliefs can be true believers, the rest of humanity is being manipulated by Satan. If you question this line of reasoning you’ll quickly be labeled a “heretic” a word that Bigots love to attach to anyone challenging their thinking.

I can understand and empathise with hurt people. They can swear at me, curse, whatever, I see through it, I see a person hurting. But some people come to deny their own hurt, and this turns them into a soul-less rock. Well, a saved rock of course.
Some people become so infatuated with religion, and promoting that they are saved and others are not, to hide their hurt, to hide their weakness, that you can no longer see their humanity. Trying to get such out of them, is like trying to get blood out of a rock (they may even use as such to remind me 'its stone not rock' lol).
It's like speaking to an AI, and the AI has been programmed with knowing every translation of the Bible, is able to always defends itself, able to use ANY scripture to justify its own point, but while lacking one thing. A soul.

My guess would be PRIDE and/or MISUNDERSTANDING. Hurting people hurt people.
So, when a fellow christian is mean or judgmental, it's a good opportunity to learn to love the not-so lovable!

Won't it be wonderful when Jesus does return to the earth?! Every BIG mess we've all made will be corrected and all will be set in order. Until then, we'll just have to give each other mercy and hopefully learn to love one another.

As I type this, DinoPaul has only posted 14 posts. Not that hard to figure out who he's talking about.
If Jesus said we should love each other, then wasn't it possible? I will always believe that this world can be a more loving place. I'm never going to compartmentalize myself and say, oh I'm saved and THEY are of the world, and then do nothing about it. Because this is the perfect excuse not to. We are not supposed to build walls, we are supposed to break them down. And if people are really saved, then they should probably be on the front line there, instead of always needing someone to say is the enemy, and to tell everyone else, there is the enemy, that heretic, that liar, that unbeliever, that Muslim, that gay, that criminal.
Who is God to us, if we cannot love each other, even if it is trying to break down the outer wall of another? This is different to trying to break the inside of someone, and many do that.

Well surprise, you usually say something like this when it is about you.
You do observe in yourself, how unempathic what you said was? If not, then try and observe it.
I mean that in kindness, since you can be quite a blunt person, yet I'm sure underneath you are well meaning. But it doesn't come out that way.

And yes I get that you were well meaning. But really, you were not empathising with his position.
Put yourself in his position. And then ask yourself if hearing what you said would be helpful in that situation.
Just some kind words would probably have been better. Or, saying what you were saying, in a softer and gentler way, giving notice to the sensitivity of the matter you are talking about, and the person you are talking to.
