I will never understand human folly
In a world of starving millions, and in which 2/3 of world's population
still do not have a flush toilet the rich and the stupid do this.

Good grief, no wonder Jesus has to come back and save us
from ourselves.

This is a hoax, right? Is this some of that fake news the Pope was talkin about? He says it's a normal Tesla car. Same upholstery, same paint, rubber, etc. If the temperature up there is what they say, what's keeping this car from melting?

This was a test launch, and normally in place of a real payload a rocket test will carry dead weight like concrete blocks. So Musk wanted to launch something a little cooler than rocks.

It's not billionaire playboy wasting hundreds of millions of dollars, he's actually saving hundreds of millions, billions of dollars for the space industry - this rocket LANDED after it launched and is reusable - a first. All launches before this by all other space agencies, the boosters and all stages just burned up in re-entry. He's launching at lower cost already than NASA and the military, and owns another company with serious plans to mine asteroids for precious metals that are rare and almost cost prohibitive to extract from the earth.

Seriously, there were better choices of billionaires with no political experience, but this guy is too busy with human progress to be president anyway, not interested.

It was his own car, too haha

It's supposed to do one orbit around the sun and then speed off towards and past Mars. Mars is Musk's ultimate goal, and he's doing the first Martian drive-by. And he's been landing first stage boosters for about a year now with the Falcon 9. That's all his heavy lift rocket is, 3 Falcon 9's strapped together.

3 Falcon 9's strapped together?
Would that be ratchet straps or hook and loop?:)

If it weren't for innovators and men with the money and resources to develop new technology we would still be running around on horse-drawn carriages with no computers, no cell phones, no laptops, no air conditioning, no refrigerators, no microwave ovens, etc., etc...

He needs to work on his battery technology. It ran out of juice 8 hours early.

Elon Musk reminds me a bit of another guy that was loaded in cash and a bit eccentric, namely Howard Hughes. For some reason it seems that persons who have a brain that is wired towards technological innovation also are wired towards eccentricity.

Perhaps a space alien ordered one and he is just arranging delivery.
