Yes, i work with resistance bands as part of pilates workouts. They are good for when I am traveling and I want to do a workout in a hotel.

I love to use them for glute kickbacks. I also like putting a resistance bad around my thighs and do a few walking squats.


Has anyone tried working out with resistance bands? My son bought me resistance bands for Christmas (similar to what's in the link below) and it gives you a decent work out (when used properly) in home or on vacation if no weight room is available. Some bands have more resistance than others.

Walks of 30 minutes everyday, stretching, dancing and pilates keeps me in shape.

I used to use them to stretch out my shoulders and arms before my workouts.

Sometimes I put them over the bar when I do deadlifts to make the lock-out harder.

My stepper came in the mail yesterday. It’s a sunny health twist something something. It also comes with resistant bands. I used it for 15 mins yesterday with about 728773 breaks cuz that sucker got me out of breath lol.

i also weighed myself yesterday. It was not a happy number lol

I have been hitting the gym almost everyday.
Its mostly on any of the cardio machines followed by super sets using weights.

I do 30-40 minutes on either the elliptical or the treadmill. I intersperse these with sets. Squats with weights, bent over rows, planks.

I always end with stretches and light pilates/ab exercises.

I don't diet. However, in the last few months, I had a 10 lb weight loss that saw me losing some muscle. So now I am trying to get more protein in.

Given that it was the weekend - I did eat a lot more rich stuff than I usually like. That means I am going to have to sweat this out at the gym later.

In general along with exercise, I am making sure I eat salads and leafy greens everyday. Packing in the multivitamins as well.

There's an adage that goes "Strong Body. Strong Mind." That's what I think of fitness in general. I am not sure what propels one or the other, but that discipline and commitment only comes from a strong mindset.

Haha!

When I go to the gym, there's usually no one around, so I don't even care about BO.

When I work out, I want that sweat. I want my hair to be dripping wet.

However my hair has grown really long. It is cut in layers and my hair has started reaching my waist. Working out everyday and having long hair is quite a challenge.
It's the post upkeep after gym to maintain my hair that I care about.

Maybe you just forgot to set your scale back 10 lbs. for the holidays ? :confused:

if only. I has nothing to do with the holidays :( lol

with my new job, I'm sitting at the desk 99% of the time. with my previous job, I was at a desk a lot, but I got up frequently to take patient's back to rooms.

le sigh. lol.

As a zumba fitness instructor this is probably your lifestyle! :D

I love zumba! I used to go for zumba and pilates classes after work. Its always fun to workout in a group. :)

I pushed it in the gym this evening for 1.5 hours. I took a couple of days off for R&R but wanted to get back quickly.

I even incorporated a HIIT routine towards the end - just to see how far I could go (not much). I like doing bursts of intense activity to make sure I am getting that VO2/heart rate up.

I'm a farmer, and subscribe to the FPFP......farmer physical fitness program....lol. Up in the morning at 3 am, work the day with breaks for meals, and in bed by 8 pm. At my age, I like to take time during the day to train the spaniels, who are with me constantly, except when doing dangerous work (machinery and timber cutting). I am happy with life, after a long career in military, and law enforcement, I can finally put my "whole self" into the family farm. Well.....that's my fitness program........and I'm sticking to it..........praise God....................Stan

I'm sure your VO2 max is fine, Rachelle :) 1.5 hours is a lot... But be careful of overtraining.. It can weaken your immune system and make you fatigued.. but I know you're quite fit so maybe that's not overtraining for you.. just listen to what your body might be telling you.. :)

...and yea that song is so cool. I kind of want to sing it lol. :rolleyes:

BUT, got a problem now, and I'm wondering if this is a good place to ask? It is about exercising, but not the type of exercising that will make me thin and trim. The type that supposedly is going to keep me walking a little longer in the future. I'm just not all that sure it is helping, so I'm asking if anyone knows enough about muscles and skeletal structure to be able to explain the "why?" for me.

And if you don't know, that's fine. Because just the concept I want to ask people this question means I'm clueless too. I'm really asking if anyone understands enough about exercising that I can ask a body-mechanics question. (And I'm asking on here, instead of the health forum, so I don't end up getting recommendations for all sorts of herbs, supplements, and quackery solutions like it seems to happen on the health forum.)

"No" is an acceptable answer. If I didn't expect No, I wouldn't be asking if I can ask. lol

To maintain your ability to walk you have to maintain a sufficient amount of leg muscle. To maintain them you need to consistently use your legs to walk everyday. The old addage "Use it or lose it" definitely applies to muscles. The more you walk, the more strength and endurance your legs will have.

Now if you don't have a place to walk or can't go outside because its too cold or whatever... You will have to maintain your leg muscle by doing exercises at home. You can dance or do squats, or jog in place, or jump rope, or do jumping jacks, etc..

You can also use some light weights while doing squats. That will greatly help in maintaining and strengthening those leg muscles...but start light and don't do too many squats or you will have sore legs, which is no fun at all.

Here is a video showing some more simple exercises to keep your leg strength...

Things needed to walk:
-- The inner ear staying healthy, because our sense of balance and knowing what is up and what is down is in there.
-- Feeling in our feet, because we have to know what we're stepping on -- if it is higher or lower than the last step, and if it is water or solid.
-- Legs. (For all the reasons you stated.)
-- Back -- the back makes lots and lots of little adjustments for every step we take to keep us upright and to sustain balance.

If any one of those things has something wrong, walking just got a lot harder.

Hubby's problem is the front third of his feet is numb. For him, every step feels like one-third of his foot is hanging over the edge of a cliff. If he doesn't look to see where his feet are, he loses his balance because he feels like one-third of his foot is over the edge of a cliff. (Stopping short and panicking are the body's go-to when that feeling hits, and when that hits he has to regain control of natural reaction or he does stumble.)

My problem is my back is going. Legs are doing fine.
