OK, I googled "ratchet" and it's just the new way of saying "wretched"

I asked someone what it meant and they told me it described a girl who rolled out of bed after an all nighter and just showed up in her pj without brushing her hair or teeth.....so I concluded it wasn't a nice thing to call someone else.

It's kind of funny how every generation thinks the next generation's slang is so much more ridiculous than their own. But now I have to wonder if WE ever realize how ridiculous WE sounded "back then"...

As I was shaking my head at words like "Bae" and "adorzies", I had to remember that I'm from the generation that invented The Garbage Pail kids and phrases like, "Barf me out the door" (I always hated that phrase... way too graphic for me!)

How in the world we have all now made it to middle-aged adulthood is beyond me.
And yet, we all thought we sounded so cool. :p

*FACEPALM!!!!*
Actually... I never did think any of it was cool. Maybe it was just because of my mother, but I always considered slang to be a lazy way of expressing my thoughts. I might use it once in a while in passing, but usually I preferred to directly say what I was thinking, and exactly what I was thinking. Slang almost never exactly fits the thoughts I want to express.

Mind you, this is not to disparage slang or the people who use it a lot. Go for it dudes! Rock on!
*makes a peace sign*

Lol you posted the link the first time. Did you not read the example sentence and synonyms?
I did read them. It doesn't say sleazy obnoxious girl anywhere. If that's what you want to say it means, then be my guest...more power to you! But you can't tell me it doesn't say that it's the ghetto way of saying "wretched" when that's the very first thing it says. Have a nice day. :)

Ok, I'll be fair.... I was playing along because you said my definition was wrong... But ok, it does describe in the example a woman who has seems to have a bad, "ghetto" sense of fashion and so one might interpret that as a sleazy, obnoxious woman..

My apologies.

I don't know how two could argue over a definition of a fake word.
