ACTS; 18; 24-26; And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man,and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus, 25; This man was instructed in the way of the Lord;and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. 26; And began to speak boldly in the synagogue; whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly. .........................................We have seen this in many churches where where the pastor having an intense spirit, and enthusiasm for the word of God but not the Holy Spirit. These two women that had the Holy Spirit pulled him aside and explained to him the gospel more clearly. They did not baptize him in the Holy spirit ,but they sent word about Apollos coming to Ephesus, and where he stood. This is when Paul arrived and baptized him and others with the Holy Ghost, because they had not known of a Holy Ghost. A lot of people for several generations in churches have heard of the Holy Ghost, and have rejected him. These women were part of the apostles ministry in various areas ,but never taught or preached in the churches. Some of the women had their homes set up as churches ,but was never in authority to teach or preach to the men. Your sons and daughters shall prophesy,, meaning uttering out a divine message from God, or a word of knowledge to thee church.
Just a small correction.... Aquila and Priscilla were husband and wife... not two women.

That doesn't change the fact that Priscilla did correct and teach Apollos, but it should be noted.

It is ridiculous to try to bolster your position by saying that when paul said: just as the law also says, that he is referring back to his OWN letters. Even an intelligent man who seriously believed women should not preach could see the absurdity of that.

Do you notice wolfwint how people will so often either not understand your words or attempt to twist your words in order to fit their own beliefs and agenda ? The liberals are absolutely masters at this practice.
Yes, but sadly liberal theology comes more and more ( i telling from germany) in konservative churches. And if they cant point with the word, they try to attack you personly in holding your for stupid and back wooded.
The people in germany who believes that the bible is the word of God becomes more and more minority.
But thats what the bible said from the endtime. Denominations which were against the woman ordination 30 years ago, changed meanwhile. What was 30 years ago different then today in the word of God?

Which two woman taught Apollos? You know that Aquila is a man? The husband of Priscilla?

I wonder can we ever be forgiven enough for being female? Has Jesus redeemed us fully or are we to be figuratively bashed over the head with Eve's sin at every available opportunity as long as the Church age lasts?

We are fully forgiven. :)Men may say what God has made clean is unclean, but let every man be a liar, God is truthful. :)

Do we not all ( including the Creation) have to suffer because of Evas and Adams and our own sin? That us is forgiven we celebrate yesterday!!

I don't believe a woman should be a pastor...but I have to say...there is a whole lot more going on in the last few pages then whether or not a woman should preach in a church

it's scary in fact

I don't see any difference here than in all the threads representing differences of opinion

lots of opinions, but who has the mind of the Lord?

I would say few. Generally speaking, I get the distinct impression that some men here do not love women at all..thank God for Jesus

and remember, what I am saying here has nothing to do with the question of women speaking in church...I am addressing a much bigger problem

just one nagging little question tho: if a woman can prophesy in church, that IS speaking? right?

so if someone loves the word so much? take note cause that IS what it says and don't come back with women need to shut up cause God said so...I already said I do not agree with a woman pastor...at the same time, no doubt there are some fine ones just as there are some men who would do better to just shut the hay up and sit down

I honestly think some men hate women...resent them something awful while still getting married . you can see the real nature in the marriage.

Well this is where some considerable misunderstanding enters the discussion. Old school guys like me see preaching in church to be the primary responsibility of the local church pastor. So a woman would be disqualified from preaching in church.

Since I don't buy the modern teaching on prophesy I have no issue as man or woman they are out of order in the church in the modern era.

1 Timothy 5:23 (KJV)

Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.
.
God said it. All scripture applies in the Church today. No arguing. You can't deny the word of God. This isn't just for Timothy and his problems in the first century. All men who feel ill MUST drink wine. There is no room for personal interpretation. If you don't do this you are in open rebellion against God and you are a feminist ;)

Yes, I'm being flippant. And some of you really deserve it.

Yes, I agree 7. You see the real nature in marriage. You see it in children from the marriage. Even without a marriage, with a woman who is grown and lives with her mother, or her sister - you see the real nature.

A married woman sees the real nature in her husband. The husband sees the real nature in his wife. They both fight against that real nature they come to see in each other.

A wife wants her husband to love her with no selfishness. She fights against not getting this as she wants.

A husband also wants his wife to love him without selfishness. And he fights against not getting this as he wants.

I live with my mother. I want her to also love me perfectly. But she can't. I can't love perfectly either, but I want to demand that she do it. I demand from others what even I can't give to them.

But the Spirit can work love and forgiveness in me. That love stops seeking for itself and I begin to lay down my life of selfseeking for the other. I begin to submit to them in love.

The danger for the men in here is not that their wives will submit to them in love by the Spirit in them. The danger for them is that they themselves will not also submit in love to their wives. Because they think submitting in love is for the wife and not for themselves too.

We are to (by the Holy Spirit working in us) submit to each other in love. Me to you, you to me, your husband to you, you to your husband. When i submit to you in love, this doesn't mean i obey whatever you desire from me. It means I stop seeking my own good and seek yours, even IF you don't reciprocate. If we want others to love unselfishly, we will never get what we desire unless we first lay down our life to love. And this is to become more like our Lord, who didn't seek His own good, but our good, and laid down His life and every right He had in order to win us.

yeah I know you do not believe the Holy Spirit is as active as ever, nor the active Agent of God on earth since Christ has returned to the Father...quite a few years back in fact

guess you just could not resist the no women speak in church human manifesto even though I specifically began my first post with I do not think women should be pastors

since practically everyone here who has been here for any length of time knows where you stand on the Holy Spirit, might be a good idea not to change direction of the thread...no need to bring it up either

thanks for your...input

I should add though...prophesy does not mean foretell as an OT prophet in most cases...so that just doubles up on the gifts thingie

if it did, why did Paul state he wishes all would prophesy? that would just be silly....then again, if we actually study what the NT norm for the prophesy means, it would have women actually SPEAKING

go figure...does not say they should be pastors, but that does not seem to be a normative feature for NT churches either

so confusing (not really)

Yes, you are pointing out the same absurd error that 7 was pointing out. Its the absurd error that results from following law and a human understanding of scripture.

And honestly Lucy, you weren't being flippant and neither was 7. You were pointing out an absurdity that is the result of following law instead of Spirit.

Thanks for the mischaracterization. The Holy Spirit is as active as ever but not in the apostolic fashion desired by Pentecostal and charismatic folks.

Sound doctrine is important.
