I see a lot of people talking about how some homeschoolers don't get good social skills... I know a bunch of homeschoolers, and most of them have great social skills. Very friendly and outgoing, know how to hold a good conversation. That is not to say that all of us are like that, but even the adults who know us say we are noticeably more mature, responsible, and are good students.

On the flip side, I also know a lot of kids who go to public school and have lots of the wrong kind of social skills or little social skills, because the social interactions they are getting are of the negative sort. Again, that is not to say that all of them are like that, but there are some factors that are being left out in the "homeschoolers don't get enough socializing" argument. Just because you socialize more, does not mean you socialize better.

I believe that those that are home are isolated from their peers that are in an active social setting in school. I agree with your estimation of home school. You can learn a lot of social skills in an actual school setting that will help prepare you for adult life.
the way the public school system is right now is a situation where parents are negelcting their children by sending them off to school. the Bible clearly tells parents in proverbs : "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." how can you send your kids to school to be taught by people who aren't responsible for the parenting of the kids. look at the kids these days. education in schools has now become indoctrination and it just sickens me that some parents don't mind just sending their kids off to a public school aiming at destryoing tiher biblical roots and beliefs. btw, i wasn't homeschooled since birth. i was in school until ten and then i was taken out of the system. so, i know what its like "socialising" with other kids :)

Where else in real life are you exclusively dealing with a group of your peers? That being said, idk it sounds like you maybe haven't met a wide variety of homeschoolers? There are homeschoolers, and there are homeschoolers. For myself I think my parents were able to give us an incredibly well-rounded outlook. We had times with other homeschoolers (peers with the same values), with church family (people of all ages with similar values), we reached out to people in the community (people of all ages with different values), and age-related extracurricular community events, like theater, etc. which involved peers with different values.

Basically, I don't think you can across the board say either. You can't say all homeschooling is bad, and you can't say all public schooling is bad. Because especially with homeschooling, it depends upon so many different factors.

Trust me as someone who has to run internship programs- homeschoolers usually perform better. They're often better workers, communicators, and networkers than their publicly schooled peers.

The notion they lack effective social skills just isn't so.

I chose other...didn't read every reply and will not clairfy my "other". Haha.
I was traditionally homeschooled in elementary school...I won't say I loved it because I hated school in any sense lol. But it was best for me and was good for me. After several years in a Christian school I switched to an online version through a Christian school. I had very little in class time and it allowed me to finish a year early and work school around my family and work schedule. I finished a couple days ago and overall it was extremely helpful. I'd have likely just tested out or not graduated had I not been able to do it from home. It helped me a lot and helped me get a few college credits in as well.

Im home schooled and have been for a bit now and i absolutely love it the only thing i don't like is not having as much of a chance to connect with kids my age (i didn't do to well at that before anyways). I probably would home school my kids someday. also this was a REALLY good idea for a thread! :D :D
