The commandment is New because Jesus loved even His enemies. He loved us even when we didn't deserve it.

Agape love shown on the cross..., that is the kind of love Jesus showed the world.

Actually the "Priesthood" was given specifically to the Levites. Some Prophets (Samuel) and Kings came from different tribes.

Actually?

What exactly are you correcting?

Methuselah wasn't a Levite.

I have a feeling we have vastly different understanding of many scriptures.

Maybe it's a language barrier?

I don't know how you can say God didn't show love to His enemies in the old Testament. The Jews sinned against Him all the time. Taught against His teaching. Killed His Prophets when he sent them to save them. corrupted His Word over and over.

And God forgave them time after time, He showed mercy over and over and over to those who hated Him and His Words.

He even sent His own Son to save the people who had killed many of His Servants, and who ultimately killed Him.

How you can say the Word which became Flesh never showed love for his enemies until they murdered Him on the Cross is astounding to me.

Isn't this typical - Ariel is talking about apples, Studyman insists on arguing the toss, but he is talking about oranges, and yet he is convinced he is making sense...

Beats me!

I stated earlier that the "New" covenant wasn't really new..,it was prophecied in Genesis 3.

Do you agree or disagree?

Trying to figure out what we agree and disagree on concerning scriptures

I can lay out what I believe the new covenant is and how it differs from the old covenant..and you can tell me what you agree and disagree about and we can discuss why.

Hopefully in a respectful and loving manner.

Genesis 3 we have the first Messianic promise of the Seed to defeat the Serpent/Dragon/Satan.

Adam and Eve sinned yet God promised them a deliverer.

He then covered them with animal skin.

Abel is listed as the first prophet and he gave of the firstborn of His flock.

The New Covenant is all about Jesus, our promised Messiah. The Deliverer, the promised seed, the Passover Lamb

I could spend years talking about the New covenant..,perhaps it would be easier to establish what the old covenant purpose, terms and conditions were?

1. Old covenant was given to the Israelite through Moses on Mount Sinai

2. It was given because people rejected hearing from God directly

3. Some laws were added due to sin (being able to divorce your wife by handing a bill of divorce)

Purpose: to set aside a holy people to preserve the prophecy/Oracle's of God concerning the Messiah,

Terms: 613 laws (including 10 commandments)

Conditions: obey and get blessings and be allowed to live in the land promised

Disobey: get carried away into captivity and lose your land rights

New covenant

Purpose: create a holy people, adopted sons and daughters of God joined by One spirit in One body for His glory

Terms to be a part of the covenant: faith in Jesus blood for remission of sins and following the Holy spirit

Conditions/promises: eternal life with God, resurrected bodies, suffering.& persecution in this life but blessings in the life to come.treasure in heaven, not earth

Terms: 613 laws (including 10 commandments)

Conditions: obey and get blessings and be allowed to live in the land promised

Disobey: get carried away into captivity and lose your land rights

For old covenant "blessings" is material blessing received on this earth. Doesn't really mention what happens after death.

Perhaps that is why many modern Jews follow the tradition of the Saducees and don't believe the dead will be resurrected?

What was prophesied there was the crucifixion of Christ. That is indeed the basis and foundation of the New Covenant, but one could not actually find the New Covenant in that passage. The New Covenant was introduced after the Old Covenant was violated by Israel.

these are but a few of the times the "old" speaks of eternal life:

Psalm 16:8-10, “I have set יהוה always before me; Because He is at my right hand I am not shaken. Therefore my heart was glad, and my esteem rejoices; My flesh also dwells in safety. For You do not leave my being in She’ol, Neither let Your Lovingly-committed One see corruption.”

Isaiah 26:19-20, “Let Your dead live, together with my dead body, let them arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust; for Your dew is a dew of light, and let the earth give birth to the departed spirits. Go, my people, enter your rooms, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourself, as it were, for a little while, until the displeasure is past.”

Hosea 6:1-3, “Come, and let us turn back to יהוה. For He has torn but He does heal us, He has stricken but He binds us up. After two days He shall revive us, on the third day He shall raise us up, so that we live before Him. So let us know, let us pursue to know יהוה. His going forth is as certain as the morning. And He comes to us like the rain, like the latter rain watering the earth.”

Daniel 12:1-3, “Now at that time Miḵa’yl shall stand up, the great head who is standing over the sons of your people. And there shall be a time of distress, such as never was since there was a nation, until that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, every one who is found written in the book, and many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth wake up, some to everlasting life, and some to reproaches, everlasting abhorrence. And those who have insight shall shine like the brightness of the expanse, and those who lead many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.”

There is a difference between the Old testament and the old covenant. All these passages are in the old testament but are NOT part of the old covenant

God clearly says that Esau and Ishmael were old covenant while Jacob and Isaac were part of the New covenant promises. Earthly Jeruselam versus heavenly Jerusalem. Children of Hagar, illegitimate versus those who will inherit eternal life.

Old covenant:

Galatians 4:25 ESV
Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.

Exodus 19:1 ESV
On the third new moon after the people of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.

Deuteronomy 33:2 ESV
He said, “The Lord came from Sinai and dawned from Seir upon us; he shone forth from Mount Paran; he came from the ten thousands of holy ones, with flaming fire at his right hand.

Numbers 10:12 ESV
And the people of Israel set out by stages from the wilderness of Sinai. And the cloud settled down in the wilderness of Paran.

Leviticus 27:34 ESV
These are the commandments that the Lord commanded Moses for the people of Israel on Mount Sinai.

******

Only those three books lay out the Laws of the old covenant....they are the shadows that have been done away with. They are the rituals that no longer have to be preformed by God's people.

The rest of the old testament is about the Messiah and His New Covenant promises.

Yes there is history about how the Israelite people broke the old covenant, etc.

However the promise given to Adam and Eve of the promised seed, the covenant God made with Abraham and His Seed, not seeds is fulfilled in Jesus and the New covenant, not the old covenant which never promised anyone that they could become children of God.
