My grandmother believed she shrunk half an inch in height, and grew half a shoe size every time she had a child. Worse yet, she didn't give birth to two of her children, yet still lost half an inch, except in her feet. (Married a widower with two children.) She was 4'10"-11" and a size 10 shoe.

Our goal, as her grandchildren, was to do what one of her sons taught us we should do -- rest our elbow on her head. 14 grandchildren, and we could all touch the top of her head with our elbows, (not quite the same as resting our elbows on her head), by fifth grade. lol

It can be slowed down, maybe, but not preventable. DDD (degenerative disk disease) is just that, a disease. It's also directly related to aging. 30% of 30 year olds have it. 40% of 40 year olds, 70% of 70 year olds.

I'm Irish, living in an Italian neighborhood. I can hold my own. (I just don't need my hands quite as much to talk. lol)
 
God made me tall, 6'6". I was bullied throughout childhood partly because of this. (The other part because of my ADHD.) Even as an adult I have been lightly teased for being so tall.

Now when people tease me about my height I say, "This is the way God made me. If you have a problem with it, take it up with God."

People also regularly say something like, "Gee, you're tall." I say, "No, I'm not. The world is short."


My best advise to those who don't like their height is to tell them that that is the way God made you the way you are. If you don't like it, take it up with God.

I am also convinced that God made each of us for a particular reason to reach a particular group of people. God made Nick Vujicic with no arms or legs so he could reach more people than he could have if he had been born normal.

God made each of us the height we are because that is the best height to do what He wants us to with our lives.
 
Oh goodness you are all like towers :D I am 5ft tall :o



But I am more agile :D maybe because of my size :D

Yes, most kitchen & bathroom sinks, appliances, and furniture are not structured with tall folks in mind, that's for sure. Ya have to stoop a lot and bump your head. LOL! Other than that, I love being tall and seeing over people’s heads in crowds and being able to reach up high. :)

Just so you know, when I picture you, I picture you as that baby face with a helmet. Boy! That baby just really stretched in my mind. I think it's about an inch in circumference now to do all that 6'6" stretching. lol

And, if you ever happen to be in the VA hospital corridors and hear a frumpy old women in overalls say, "Gee, I feel so short." Say Hi to me. It's me!

I live in South Philly where average height is something like 5'6" - 5'9". Many women around here are under 5' tall, and it is rare when a man is noticeably taller than I am. (Hubby is 6', and I don't notice he's taller until I try to kiss him. lol) But, VA hospital, so most of the people walking down the halls were/are in the military, where height is taller. Only place I go were I suddenly feel like a midget. So, if you ever want to hang around "normal sized" people, head for your local VA hospital. They even laugh at frumpy old women who feel short around them. lol

I am a veteran and have been greatly helped by VA hospitals.

When I was a kid we lived across the street from the state old soldiers home. I spent a lot of time running around their grounds.
 
It's easier being tall to a point. If most things are within reach, you're good. If you have a tough time finding clothes, cars, and easily traversable doorways, you're probably better off being short.

I'm 6'1. Works for me.
 
A professional basketball player (Wilt Chamberlain, I think) was asked what the weather was like up there.* He said, "It's raining" and spit on the asker.

*I really hate that question.
