Hi all. I'd like to know if you've ever changed your view of someone that you felt one way about for some time and then something happened and it changed the way you think about them. It can be just a small change or a radical change of view, it doesn't matter I still want u to share it. :)

So please share your story(ies) and tell us what happened that made you change your mind.

Lets limit this to people you know personally, not celebrities or politicians ok?

I have had that happen a few times with people I've worked wth down the years, I've thought I liked them and that we were similar people but then they've said or done something that has made me realise that there was a lot too them that I just hadn't seen and it's made me realise that we weren't similar at all and there was no potential for any kind of relationship.

The most prominent memory I have was a woman I worked with in my first job, I was 17 and she was over 30 but we just got along really well and became fast friends due to working in the kitchen together.

It was a few months later when she felt we were close enough she decided to share some of her past with me and while I honestly wasn't judgemental about it (even though some of it was really bad) it was like there had been a wall obscuring half of who she was and suddenly it had all came down and I saw that while we could always get along well enough a real friendship was always going to be out of reach, partly because the years difference between us meant I just couldn't begin to appreciate or understand how she'd done the things she'd done and honestly how she lived with it......because I'm not sure I could.

I can't say I haven't done that myself, it seems like I have either heard, seen or done everything under the sun. I think one of the most amazing things about real christians that i have met is that some of those who have done the worst things you could think of is that they have a great passion for God. They might have more baggage but they burn hot. Those who have been forgiven much, love much.

Every day people you meet will either exceed your expectations or disappoint you. I am trying really hard to break the habit of prejudging people or situations. Just because I have a desire for someone to be a certian way does not mean that God expects them to be that way too. I don't know the big picture, God does. If someones heart is in the right place at the present time, how relavent are past events.

Yes, I can think of a specific case recently that was bothersome. There was a guy I met who seemed genuine in his faith and I was very impressed by him. He's in his 30s...and then I found out that he had a thing for teenage girls. I was ....stunned..but will continue to pray for him.

Okay..this one is kinda silly, but absolutely true :)

There was a guy who was the phys ed instructor at a police academy. He was very nice looking and very sweet, and we talked about going out sometime...and then he happened to mention that he got MAN MANICURES. I know, I know, I know...it's really kinda silly, but that was SUCH a turn off. Laughing about it still as I type. Silly me, I like being the pretty one. :/

What Jullianna's guy was probably referring to is a metrosexual manicure...It's much the same thing as a manicure for women, except one of the parties involved is slightly less female. Other than that, it usually involves the same elevated gossip level, the same statistical probability that one or both parties are wearing pink, etc.

My very first impression of my soon to be sister-in-law was that she was a bit "stand-offish". I kinda got the feeling she didn't care for me and we had just met!! As time passed, I found her to be a bit shy, but just the absolute nicest person you'd ever want to meet! She is now my sis...(ok... yes...sis-in-law, but I sometimes fail to introduce her to others that way!! hahhaa) and one of my best friends!!! We get together to do crafts (mostly ceramics) together almost every weekend!

I love that story nanabean! I think I am a lot like your sis-in-law in that I am terribly shy and stand-offish around people I don't know but once I am comfortable with someone I want to be their good friend.

I was partial to the Kim Possible avatar, myself...never much cared for batgirl/man/robin.

The thing I don't quite get, is why a guy like that would be an instructor @ a police academy...which isn't exactly the kind of place known to attract people worried about their cuticles.

I can relate to your experience Jullianna. When I was a young lad around the age of 16 a friend of my dad's was giving me private guitar lessons at his home teaching me different techniques such as fingerpicking styles etc. He was a cool guy and everything then after a few lessons he brought up the importance of nail care and keeping the nails of my fingering hand trimmed short enough to be able to execute notes more clearly and easily as well as to prevent them from digging into the fret board. Then he even suggested I could get my nails manicured. I thought,"what? huh?" :eek:
I started laughing and said yeah whatever I know how to clip my own fingernails. He said well, I get my nails manicured...then he showed me. They were even buffed and shiny and for lack of a better word just too purdy for a guy. I just froze and since this was over 20 yrs ago I knew no men who got manicures and to me was a practice only reserved for women and gays. My mouth dropped a little, my face got serious. Sudden thoughts went through my head...... I hope he likes woman.....He's way older and I'm a young man I've heard stories about things like this....should I be in the room alone with him......I could probably take him if he was to try and get frisky but still looked for the first exit, the door was closed ....hmmmm.
I believe he noticed my sudden apprehension and what I must have been thinking.
He said NO NO it's not a gay thing some guys get manicures nowadays but you don't HAVE to get one just keep your nails in check for playing guitar.
Just to make myself feel better I had to ask him, "uh, you don't get your little piggies done too while you're at it do ya?" :D

I had the same question, Nuke....who knows...

P.S. - I like Kim Possible too. There are so few redhaired superheros. LOL Most of the time we're the bad guys...errr...girls. But c'mon....You don't like BATMAN?????? okay...I'm gonna have to make a totally new entry about this in this thread cos this totally changes my opinion of you. :)
