To me "mercy" is when you see a person doing something worthy of punishment but, because of love, you seek to find a way to deliver them from punishment...

And "persecution" is when you don't see a person doing something worthy of punishment but, because of dislike, you seek to find or cause them to do something wrong, as way to deliver them to (or into) punishment...

Is that an aspect of the word translated "persecute" (+ed, or +ion)?

So what's making you think about mercy and persecution?

Something on your mind?

Hi Maxwell,

I'm a cautious sort and felt that if someone was looking for faults in others so they could get them in trouble or banned, at least one might want to know what they were actually doing.

Plus when I learned that it was the opposite of mercy, I thought that was really intriguing and thought others would like to know.

Perhaps I read more into things than what appears at face value but isn't that why you asked your question as well? :)

Love in Jesus,

1. No, I'm not reading too much into things:

"Perhaps I read more into things than what appears at face value but isn't that why you asked your question as well."
No.
I asked my questions because words don't randomly pop out of peopl'e's mouths for no reason,
therefore if you suddenly create a whole thread, posting some random thoughts....
it must be for some REASON.

2. Odd definition of persecution:
I think you have a very odd definition of persecution.
I think a quick pop into any dictionary would clear this up.

3. Nobody gets anyone else banned:
No one here can "get somebody banned"... if people violate certain policies, the mods may choose to ban them.
- No one here can MAKE another person violate policies.
- No one here can MAKE a mod do anything at all.

This is just silly.
