I am a reformed OCD'er" of course Christ has shown me that it was definitely NOT-MY-FAULT!!!
I was made to do all of the 'wash' in grade-school' for a family of (5) and the ironing', - I even got electruceted one day...

Some work too much to fill holes that should be filled by other things: things like God, other people, their own demons (not really saying Satan here folks - I'm talking their own inadequacies and other mental issues), rest time, getting help (counseling) for what may drive them to work instead of taking care of themselves and the world around them.

I think really It needs some sort of definition of work aholic.
Do you mean people who are always at work because they are almost
addicted to work and feel Work can’t manage without them?
Lots of other people spend a lot of time at work for other reasons too which
are beyond their control.

Just glad to know that's over. Maybe i've started this thread bec. i'm sorely missing someone(s) and not hearing from them for... weeks! I have the feeling she/they are stuck in their work again and not noticing time passing by.
I did not really check the meaning of the word, only thinking of one who works and works as if they had to. Some really are hardworking people who do not want to "waste" time in chatting for example, as they see it. In my first job, i'd sometimes take home work, but someone said it is not good habit, and to leave work at work. He was right, and i started to focus on what was needed at home, and not what else to be doing the next day.
But i got this family who, if i didnt write, would hardly do either. They write a welcome note back, chat a little, but this sister for one, would endlessly be working on papers brought home. Or ceaselessly be formatting files as if they have to be perfect.

Maybe that is over the top, but it depends on their reasons.
Where I work we have annual performance appraisals, plus quarterly
job chats where you are assessed on various key performance goals.
I work in the civil service.
It’s incredibly hard to get excellent, as you have to show you are
doing two jobs very well in all areas to get that score.
Most get satisfactory.
Some get need to improve, if you get this and you don’t improve you
can be fired.
The other thing is we are measured against each other and every year the
government expects 10% of people to get a must improve score and only
10% of people to get an excellent score. It’s all to do with pay.
What happeneds though, is that if everyone got a satisfactory score. They
Would still be expected to only give 10% of staff excellent and 10% need
to improve. So the managers would have to decide who was slightly better than
everyone else and who had done slightly worse.
It’s the same if everyone was really bad at the job, they can only give 10% needs
to improve and would still have to give 10% excellent!
The entire system is a joke as it forces people to compete and compare
themselves with all the others, as no one wants a low score. It’s also
extremely unfair as manages give higher scores to people they are friends
with. So two people can be on the same level of performance but one gets
excellent while the other gets needs to improve.
Lots of people in different jobs like sales for example, have performance
linked to salary or commission.
Others are given impossible dead lines and are expected to meet them or else.
I used to be one. I would still be one if I wasn't tired so much. I think it's good to be one as long as it's not ruining your life.
Life is all about 3 things: Time, Energy and Money....
When you're young you have all the time and energy, but no money.
When you're middle-age you have all the energy and the money, but no (free) time.
When you're old you have all the time and all the money, but no energy.
No not all, but generally speaking... people save all their lives so they can have a comfortable retirement. Not everyone manages to do it, but its not uncommon either.
when we come to a certain place in our lives, if we have truly have been called-out' of this
sick and dying world, we will learn that the 'Faith' that our Holy Saviour has blessed us with
will sustain us through each and every day come what may;
we will receive what He wants for us first, 'true surrender/trust' in our new-found real Love,
and we will know without a doubt that it is The Will of God, He is our New World/Life...

I am not a work alcoholic, but I think it would be great to be married to one, like a long distance truck driver; they make you money and are so seldom home every time you see them it is fresh and anew you're actually happy to see them...
Haha, but long distance drivers have no choice, do they? There is a woman, actually a Christian i've longed to mention here before. She has been helping us at home for many yrs now, and has this attitude of always wanting to go the extra mile. She also works with other families, and there's this place where she works real overtime, leaving her house as early as 5 just so she is 2 hr earlier than usual days-- and she's underpaid there! When she's with us and i tell her to rest some mins. after lunch, for example, she'd say there's lots to do and will not rest. She does things i dont ask her to do as well.
I'd tell them to chill. Before the work themselves into an early grave. Take time to breathe. Realize there is only the moment they're alive in and that moment is God given. It is in that moment they can choose what to do with that time that passes with each breath. Work themselves to death for someone else only to receive a net income for the trouble? Or relax and work to stay at peace , centered, and focused on the legacy they'll leave behind.
One that should be something that speaks more of them than a very full time card.
Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life.
I think of workaholic as a person who spend their time work and work like there is no other time to do another thing. . no time for hobbies not properly eat and even sleep.. their mind full with work work work..
i was thinking its crazy to have such life like that until lately i realized i became the one myself
since my focus not Him anymore its easily makes me down when things didnt turn out well.. somethings happened and its like wake up call for me

i'm starting to get back to my track rearranged my priority again.. You may have 5 workaholics and if you obtained the reason each one is the way they are you could fine 5 different reasons...
So this cannot be answered with one answer covers all... Different people gravitate towards these obsessive behavours for different reasons..
