So I’ve been going to the same optometrist for almost 20 years. The office just recently (3 years ago) staffed a newer optometrist whom I’ve seen twice.

She is cute, single, and seems like she has a fun personality. We seemed to hit it off and I could kinda sense something else there (unless I’m completely deluded haha). Anywho, I have been thinking it would be nice to get to know her other than just at my yearly visits.

Now, that you’re all caught up to speed, does that sound like a bad idea? Risk to reward wise, is it best to just leave this situation be and wait to run into another girl I may be interested in? Not in a rush to enter into romance, but I am curious as to where it would lead.

If this question sounds dumb chalk it up to the melatonin kicking in, haha. Love y’all, CC. GB

Most state licensing boards have professional standards, that prevent providers from having a relationship with patients.

It’s not a bad idea at all. What’s the worse that could happen? An awkward visit once a year.

She could become a great friend at the very least! Given her position, if she’s feeling the same, she won’t be able to ask. You should.

Lol...ive worked in eye care for years..fake eye dryness..allergies etc..that will get you in the door more frequently than yearly visits and you might get a better "feel" for the situation...just hope your insurance holds out..PERSONALLY i LIKE a man to be assertive..be honest and just ASK if id be interested in doing something...good luck :)

Yup..no kissing in the exam rooms..but outside the office..doctor coat off? Who cares? How out lawyer/ client relationships...etc?

It matters to the Virginia Department of health, and I assume it's the same in most states. I know that would be a big ethics violation for attorneys, and I have read cases made by the bar for it.

So if a patient comes in..n asks if dr might want to have a cup of coffee outside the office hours its illegal? State cant do anything outside the office.. Besides..you can always get a new doctor if mixing business and pleasure is too much..but if he only has exams 1 per year..no harm...

The state can certainly revoke a physician's license to practice. Just like the DEA can revoke a physician's authority to prescribe medication for violating their rules. They have these rules for a reason, generally involving romantic relationships, and it is likely because of past problems.

Ok..so..in that case..i would ask the doctor to step outside the office and ask her outside not during working hours. Or..he can send her flowes with a note and phone number saying hed like to get to know her better..lol

I don't think you're understanding. Having a professional license affects the licensees life, at work,or outside of work. The department does not allow physicians they license to have romantic relationships with their own patients. At work or not. No one has a right to an occupational license. Anything you do at home, in public, outside of work, can be regulated, and is.

State shouldnt be able to dictate your personal life..professional one..maybe..seems that the big hype is bout something that wasnt consentual..sounds like this one might be...dont know for sure..ill ask my doctors tomorrow at work..it has me curious now. I still like my flowers idea tho..lol
