I wrote this when my son was in the Army deployed to Afghanistan.

My Prayer

The days seem long and endless,
Filled with worries and with fears,
Patiently waiting by the phone,
And holding back your tears.

You count the days down one by one,
The calendar, your best friend,
With each passing day you know,
You're inching closer to the end.

Meanwhile you try to keep busy,
You just try to do your best,
You continue to pray for their safety,
You leave it to God to do the rest.

Each night you go to the Lord in prayer,
"Lord keep him safe from any harm,
Be with him in his every move,
Keep him wrapped safely in your arms.

Give him guidance and wisdom Lord,
Give him strength and courage too,
And dear Lord if it isn't too much to ask,
Would you bless his whole platoon?

Be with each soldier's family,
Put their hearts and minds at ease,
Shine brightly on their lives dear Lord,
Give them comfort, give them peace.

One day soon Lord bring them back,
From this war that's so unkind,
Return our soldiers safely,
To the families left behind."

Beautifully written, Diane. Love, care, hope and prayers well expressed. All glory to God for bringing your son back safe. Blessings upon your family and every soldier’s family.

Amen, You know, as i am reading this, I am also listening to Sgt mackenzie, from the We were soldiers movie.

Here is the link

Well, I have never seen the movie and I haven't taken my words from anyone else. Those are my words, my thoughts and that is the truth.

I believe you, It was just interesting to be reading your poem and listening to the song at the same time.
