Excellent post but the part I underlined didn’t sound true to me,weren’t we all natural men before salvation.
I thought adam walked away from GOD but GOD did not walk away from the natural man.
In Romans 1 we read that God gave up on the Christ-rejecter three times . . .
"Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them" (Romans 1:26-32).
I believe the number 3 is significant here to show that as man completely gives up on God's call . . . God gives up on the man and turns him over to his own lusts, affections and mind.
Are you willfully blind about this topic? When I was unsaved I did not think that the Bible was foolish. I just didn't understand it. I did not embrace evolution as so many others did - who would scoff at me (even though I was lost) when I insisted that God created the world and not billions and billions and billions of years. I was simply without Christ, and without hope in this world. But as soon as the issue of the cross was shown to me it made sense and I gladly received Him as my Saviour.
In fact, I have witnessed to many people that did not express animosity toward the things of God . . . even though they did not receive Christ, they did not think He was foolish or worship idols.
Now that is a far cry from some that I have witnesses to that thought that God and His Word was a big cosmic joke.

I do not believe the "natural man" spoken of in 1 Cor 2:14 is the same as the unbeliever spoken of in Rom 1:18-32.
I believe the "natural man" spoken of in 1 Cor 2:14 is the born again believer who is "carnal" (i.e. lives life according to who he/she is in Adam as opposed to who he/she is in Christ).
In either case ... whether unbeliever or "carnal christian" ... that person does not receive the things of God.
The first 3 chapters of 1 Corinthians deal with the believers who were not of one accord. They followed men as opposed to following the Lord Jesus Christ. In 1 Cor 3:1, Paul states And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ
They were believers, but because of their carnality, they were not maturing in Christ. In fact 1 Cor 3:3 states ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
And 1 Cor 3:4 again tells us they were following men (Paul, Apollos).
1 Cor 1:10-13 tells us that the result of following men is division and contention and 1 Cor 3:3 tells us the result is envying, strife, division, carnality.
Sadly, the church today is much like the church in Corinth (for the most part).
Paul is describing the natural man as the unregenerate man. Psuchikos contrasted to the carnal man sarkikos of 1 Cor 3:1
Believers who are carnal cannot receive anything stronger than milk from the scriptures. Those in 1 Cor 2:14 cannot receive anything but consider the scriptures to be foolishness because they are unsaved.
The natural man in this passage is seen in Jas 3:15 and Jude 19.

"But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth (For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness). This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work" (James 3:14-16).
"How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit" (Jude 18-19).
The text you provide says God gave them up/over, not God gave up on them.
"Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual" (I Corinthians 2:12-13).
That is addressed to believers . . . we . . .
"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned" (I Corinthians 2:14).
There is now a contrast . . . another group is in mind here, just as in the following verse, "But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man" . . . contrasting the natural with the spiritual. - saved versus rejector.
Finally we read we again in verse 16.

Not as scary as God giving up on people... which is what you said the text says, when it does not.

Seems to me James 3 could be speaking of a believer who is living in light of who he/she is in Adam and not who he/she is in Christ.
When we live according to who we are in Christ, we will shew out of a good conversation [our] works with meekness of wisdom.
When we live according to who we are in Adam, we will have bitter envying and strife in [our] hearts and will behave in an earthly, sensual (Greek psychikos), devilish manner.
Doesn't mean we're not born again ... just means we're living a substandard life compared to the life which is available in Christ Jesus.
Jude 1:19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual (Greek psychikos), having not the Spirit.
These are unbelievers because, as the verse indicates, they have not the Spirit.
We have such a contrast then, but we also need to remember to compare spiritual things with spiritual. This mean a mere human reasoning of “man’s wisdom teacheth” is against those things the Holy Ghost teachecth” thus it will take a spiritual man to teach natural man.
I have done some searching of the terms in the Bible and I think the difference between sarkinos and psychikos is this:
Sarkinos (fleshy)
- we all are in sarx (in our flesh) and this flesh can influence us to live according to it (and we are therefore fleshy, sarkinos)
- its not about rebellion against God or inability to see God or about inability to believe in God, it simply means we are bad Christians
- can be used about Christians
- means something like to be just a child in Christ
- sometimes it means really a flesh as such or commandmens of the OT
- R 7:14, 1 Cor 3:1, Heb 7:16

- in rebellion against God
- its a state in which it is unable to truly believe in God, to understand the things of God or to have the Spirit
- cannot be used about Christians
- sometimes also refers to animal body
