see that's just sticking a person's interpretation of the meaning into the text as tho their commentary is equally scripture.

which is what I hate about the amplified versions. none of those parenthetical insertions are in the literal text.
Do you believe the Amplified Bible got it wrong in this case?

To the title. When a believer is righteous, it is always the righteousness of Jesus, so unless he or she is being self-righteous, it is impossible to be over...
Amen

I think it is how we view eternal faith as coming from hearing God not seen .It is the gift of God not after the imaginations of ones own heart . But the faith of God that works in us to both will and do the good pleasure of God as a imputed righteousness.

God imputed His faith that worked in both Abraham and Rehab to prostitute and were called friends of God. as the better thing that accompanies salvation He promises us he will not forget the good workswe have offered towards his name .No bragging rites.

Samson may or may not be a good example, but I wonder why God gave Samson power to kill himself.
i'm wondering why God didn't consider his nazarite status void when he drank wine or when he touched dead bodies, and about how that relates to Ecclesiastes 7

That's good question, I'm not totally knowledgeable on the Samson account I've read some but not nearly enough. Honestly when I mentioned Samson at that time I thought it may have some kind of connection though I will say it may not considering what little I know about it.

Maybe this is in reference to "ignorance is bliss?" Consider how righteous men in times past have been vexed in their spirit at their surroundings (Lot, for example). Or, even in wisdom you see acts of foolishness and are perplexed, bothered, or even make judgments (improperly, high and mighty). To "bring in abundance" (over much) righteousness or wisdom, could be a double edged sword. In one respect they are both good to have, and yet in another one ought to be careful ("judge not lest thou be judged").

Judge men and you might make yourself a hypocrite, pride comes before the fall, right? In the next verse (17) it says to not be "over much wicked", and I'm sure that isn't an encouragement to be wicked at all, only pointing to its consequences being an early death. Likewise, what are the, possible, consequences of being "overly" righteous or wise, or even excelling in the two?
Almost............... :)

Christ did not take the oath of the Nazarites. He was a Nazarine. He was not bound by their oath...........just saying

Not all Nazarines took the Nararites Oath

Is this a self righteous statement you have made to me?
Hmm.......your style of communicating sounds vaguely familiar. When you were here last, what was your Screen Name then?

(just wondering)

I am who I am and have been. Question is: who are you? Or, what SN did you used to post under?

When anyone has said what he has to say, he has the absolute right and duty not to say more, even when "interrogated" by

According to Jesus, when reading and understanding the law without a veil, we are to apply mercy, faith and justice.

Certainly God does this by His very nature. He loves us all, and Samson was no exception, who did call upon the Lord in Spirit and Truth

Think about King David and his blood guilt from having killed in battle…...Yet he has been honored to have the throne of God be his name, Beloved.

Be not righteous over much;
neither make thyself over wise:
why shouldest thou destroy thyself?
(Ecclesiastes 7:16)
what does this mean?
Like the post, posthuman! HUMILITY. Seems to me that's the point. There are beings, angelic and human, with vast, immense awareness and understanding, compared to mine.

A critical flaw in most everyone, is believing we have the right to 'feel superior' to some group or set of people. The enemy makes use of this defect and causes wars, murders, and hatred on the basis of "ME BEING MORE RIGHTEOUS, MORE WISE, MORE ENTITLED."

The scripture that comes to mind is Matthew 18 vv2-4:
'He called a little child, whom he placed among them. And he said: Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes a humble place – becoming like this child – is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.'

We can destroy ourselves with arrogance and self-righteousness, thinking we are 'all that'.

my comment was with regard to Samson - who didn't voluntarily take the oath, but whose parents were told, he shall be a nazarite from birth.
