I like the way a black preacher handled that word. He said, "I don't know nothing about all the fancy terminology, but I do know that God the Father took all the righteousness out of His Son and He im-putted it inside of me!"
2 Corinthians 5:21 - For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (y)

So, you are saying the righteousness of Christ was imputed to you only for 'past' sins? And after that, it is your righteousness that you must keep to be found approved of God?

Quantrill
No, you are reflecting your own imagination here. I am following the sayings of the Word of God.

Rom. 3:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

I don't believe the Christ imputed His Righteous to me so I am free to reject, omit or ignore God's Words which is what caused my death in the first place. As Paul said.

Rom. 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

How is being purchased by the Blood of Christ and following His instructions MY righteousness?

When did I ever say in any post I have ever posted that I must "keep my righteousness to be found approved of God?

Where do you guys get this stuff?

If God did not impute the righteousness of Christ to you, then you stand in your own righteousness. And your righteousness will always be as filthy rags.

(Rom. 4:6) "...blessedness of the man unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works."

(Rom. 4:8) "Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin."

(Rom. 4:11) "...that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also."

The only instruction necessary to obtain the imputed righteousness of Christ is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. (Rom. 4:9) "Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness."

I get this stuff from this old Book I have.

AMEN........Where sin abounds, grace abounds the more.....last time I checked JESUS stated, "It is finished" <---PAID in full......and think about this.....every time we sin his righteousness is applied and viewed by God dia the blood.....WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD, I WILL PASS OVER YOU....Too be honest, it is rather ignorant how the salvation losers and workers for apply that verse to only the sins that are past while being oblivious to the fact that Christ paid for them before we EVEN committed ONE sin. Some of these people are not even worth responding to....the way they trample JESUS under their feet in favor of their own self righteous cultism.....

Studyman, benhur, others are still stuck in Romans 2 thinking and believing by their works they can achieve their own righteousness and stand before God. They completely misunderstand the text there, and the Gospel altogether.

I agree....and will take it one step further.....everyone that believes salvation can be lost and must be earned or kept by what we do fits that bill.....

Let this serve as both a warning to some, and as comfort to others:

Isa 50:10 Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the voice of his servant? Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.

Isa 50:11 Behold, all you who kindle a fire, who equip yourselves with burning torches! Walk by the light of your fire, and by the torches that you have kindled! This you have from my hand: you shall lie down in torment.

Please, everyone, think the above text through, and how it applies perfectly here, contrasting the one person against another.

It is a difficult truth to grasp as it runs so contrary to our, (fallen man's), way of thinking. We want to do something to earn it. And as believers we don't want to disappoint God once we have it. And when I sin and fail, as I do, I find myself thinking, how can this be also.

So, it is hard to grasp, even though you understand it.

As an unsaved kid contemplating my future I often thought about religion and heaven. I knew that I wanted to go there, but I just didn't know how. I was not satisfied with the trappings of the Catholic church. It did not make sense to me that I could sin like the devil all week long and go talk to a priest behind a shade and recite a couple of prayers by rote and somehow I was set.

I started to hear snippets of opinions about being good enough to go to heaven. I'd make a personal commitment to do right and within an hour I found myself back to where I was before I made the commitment. I said, "Heck, this is impossible! There is no way that I'll ever be good enough!" So I basically gave up trying. Why bother?

When I was around 12 or 13 I went to a free movie at the local theater sponsored by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and was exposed for the first time to the concept that even though I was powerless to live the righteous life, Someone else had already done it for me and that I could live vicariously through Him. It made some sense to me and I'm really not sure if I acted upon it or not. I mean, I might have prayed the prayer at the end of the movie--but I doubt that I meant it. If nothing else occurred, a major league seed was planted in my soul that day which lay dormant for a decade.

Then when I was 23, I found myself in the Mormon church trying to deny the existence of hell and sin -- but I could not do that. They were too real to me -- and the flames of hell were all I could think about in the silence. About that time Campus Crusade for Christ started their "I Found It!" Campaign with billboards, pins and bumper stickers every where. People would ask, "What did you find?" and the answer was "I found a new life in Jesus Christ!"

I received, and read, the Four Spiritual Laws by Bill Bright and that old Billy Graham experience returned to me. At 3:45 p.m. I woke up from a nap wherein I dreamt of hell and fell to my knees by the side of my bed and asked Jesus Christ to be my Saviour. We've been walking together now these past 42 years and I've never had to look back or wonder why I couldn't last at least an hour . . . He was doing it for me!

AMEN bro.......I was raised in church to about 12 and had even had the "anyone want to be saved raised your hand experience" and then was ushered down to the front a BAP-TIZED......I know I was not saved based upon a later event in my life.....well...after the Marines a a few years of drug use "HEAVY DRUG USE" I went and watched my brother preach his first sermon and I remember thinking that I was not saved and did not want to go to hell either and I asked the Lord to remember me in his kingdom and make me one of the greatest examples of mercy in his kingdom. I immediately quit drugs, wrote a letter apologizing for my mislead behavior, passed it out to everyone I could find that I had "partied" with and sold the only thing my dad had left me "he was killed when I was 3" a mint condition 1961 Les Paul Gibson SG....made 3 truck payments and moved to Arkansas...Started reading the bible every day, in church 3 times a week, witnessing and suffering persecution because of it, went to seminary to make up for lost bible study time, and been spreading the word since then......about 3 years into this adventure around 1992 I started being convicted about the validity of my immersion....after fighting the Spirit for a while I went down and was immersed....never convicted about it again<---the event that told me I was not saved the first time....had I been saved my immersion would have been valid and no conviction over it...OBVIOUSLY it had nothing to do with my salvation just in case any will think that......I know I fail in many ways....yet I love the truth and will go down swinging the sword!

Great testimony

Ive noticed that guys who get saved, become new creations often times when they do something like you did and QUIT immediately, are a GREAT testimony of the Lord's power. It makes the lost people who know you go "WOW. what happened to him?"
That usually causes their spouses/others to get saved in the long run too. Its like a domino effect. One guy gets saved, and the Lord uses him and BAM we got a revival on our hands. Praise God

My dad had a similar story to yours

You know.....everyone I gave that letter to dropped me like a hot rock except one.......and it is crazy...God uses the base, foolish things of the world to confound the wise....and I am definitely base and foolish and God has used me to reach many.......Great are the mercies of the Lord and the mercies of the Lord endure forever!

Americans love to be Christians, after all -- don't they say this is a 'Christian' nation? -- until it wants to interfere with their life.

Most Christians want to serve God, but only in an advisory role.

Exactly....and the tragic truth some 25 years or so after they all dropped me but the ONE......my brother preached at his mother's funeral on a Thursday....as he got out of my truck he said...Dave, I know i don't always do what is right, but I believe. He was going to come down on Monday and spend a week with me....On Saturday Morning as I swept the snow off the walkway at the church building my niece called me and said...Clint shot himself last night.......I preached his funeral 3 days later.......

He had the priest say rights at his mom's funeral just in case
He had her cremated because of her Indian beliefs and the spirit leaving the body

Not real sure what he believed in even though I witnessed to him dozens of times.......
