2Pe 2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
2Pe 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
2Pe 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
2Pe 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
These scriptures are plainly stating that if a person is saved, and escapes the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, and they go back to enjoying sins and they get tangled up in the sins, they are worse than when they first came to Christ, and it would of been better for them to not have known the truth than to know it and depart from it.
For the example given is it like a dog returns to his own vomit after getting rid of that nasty stuff, and a pig that was clean goes back to playing in the mud.
So the Bible says if a person is saved and goes back to sin and enjoying them they are not saved.
But these scriptures is not condemning to those who repent and go back to being led of the Spirit, for there is forgiveness in this case for it is only sins they are committing, and sins can be forgiven.
In this case a person can be forgiven of their sins.
Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
Heb 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
But what are these scriptures saying, which this says they fell away, and then came back, so this has to do with more than committing sins.
It appears in this case that they cannot be forgiven and be restored after they fell away.
In the scriptures in the first instance they did not fall away, but in this instance they fell away.
1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
These people were in the faith, but they departed from it, and this is speaking of the new age movement, and their false interpretation of the Bible, which they say Jesus is not Lord and Savior, but a good teacher in the evolutionary process, spiritual enlightenment, and love, and an ascended master, and avatar.
So these people stopped claiming Jesus as Lord and Savior, but a good teacher, and not the only teacher, so they departed from the truth of Jesus.
The Bible says the new age movement is the future for this world, and the time they will only want to hear the Bible, which will lead them to the beast kingdom in Revelation.
2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
Some people think this falling away has to do with the Church, but it is not true, for the gates of hell cannot prevail against the truth.
But this falling away has to do with the condition of the world in response to the Gospel which they stop the preaching of it when the nations come together, and accept Jesus but not as Lord and Savior, which will cause the New Age Christ, man of sin to be able to rule over them.
Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Heb 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
After we have done these things, and learned these things, let us leave them, and not do them over again, but move on to more understanding of the Bible mainly to steer away from deception, and to act Christlike.
This is what these scriptures mean to me is that if a person that has been saved, and been partakers of the Holy Ghost, if they should fall away, which is to abandon Jesus as Lord and Savior, whether they say they do not believe in Him anymore, or they look at Him as a good teacher and not Lord and Savior, and they go back to the world as an unbeliever in the truth of Jesus Christ, if they again believe that Jesus is Lord and Savior it is impossible for them to start the process of being saved again, for they would have to have faith all over again, confession all over again, hope all over again, baptism all over again, receiving the Holy Ghost all over again, for they went back to the world and in a position they were in before they believed the first time, and God said it is impossible for them to repeat the process and be saved again, for they put Jesus to an open shame.
So in this instance there is no forgiveness for doing that.
In the first instance where it is only sins they were doing, but they did not abandon the truth of Jesus claiming Him as Lord and Savior, and still a believer of the Bible, there is forgiveness if they get rid of those sins and do not hang unto them.
But in the second instance where they abandoned the truth of Jesus, and went back to the world they became an unbeliever, so there is no forgiveness for doing that for it is impossible to be enlightened again with the truth, and do the process of salvation again, and the essential doctrines of Christ.
Many that believed the truth of Jesus will abandon that and follow the the new age movement and believe in their Jesus, but if they believed again the truth of the Bible they cannot be saved again.
But if a person has never believed the truth of the Bible, and has not been saved, and they get in to the new age movement and then believe through study of the Bible, or by wise words of mouth, that they do not believe the new age movement is correct after all, and they believe Jesus is Lord and Savior, then they can be saved, for they are a sinner in need of salvation.
Moral of the post is do not ever ever ever abandon the truth of Jesus Christ, and become an unbeliever of the Gospel of Christ.
You can sin and wallow in the mud for a spell, and repent and be saved, but do not abandon the truth of Jesus and not be a believer of the Gospel anymore.
So in the first instance that it is their sins but they can be forgiven.
And in the second instance they abandoned the Gospel of Jesus Christ not believing anymore, which is falling away, and they cannot be saved again.
That is how it seems to me, but some will say they do not understand how they could depart from the faith to stop believing the Gospel in the first place.
