The author sounds like Diogenes. Different topic, same attitude.

Quite a number of years back it seemed the "no dating" trend got popular among authors. The Desiring God stuff came out around the same time, I believe, so it makes sense they'd have that in there.

I recently read a book called 'true love dates' it was written, like all christian dating books are, by someone who married a pastor she met at bible college.

For those of us who never went to bible college and are past college age, there isnt much hope. Lol

I’ve seen lots of threads of here about kissing, dating, sex or no sex etc.

I came across this and thought it was brilliant.

It's a unique perspective on Solomon as author of the song and what that might mean about the guy who "wrote" it. But honestly leaves the same impression as much of the Christian advice that implies if you just loved God more, you wouldn't struggle with a desire for sex. Of course when these are written by married people who presumably have marriages that include a healthy sex life, that's about the like telling a prisoner that Jesus is their freedom. On a philosophical level it might hold some good truth, but it doesn't do much to help them cope with the very practical realities of their situation (though as we frequently imply here, we need to remind ourselves that marriage isn't some magical thing that suddenly makes everything perfect in our lives) . Might also be worth mentioning that if a newcomer to the Bible read the Song of Songs, they probably wouldn't have the impression that the couple is necessarily married. We just kind of read that in because we know that the Bible teaches sex is for marriage.

I once asked a college class to give me the definition of “the perfect woman.” Immediately, one of the girls blurted out, “a cute, chaste, cooking, cleaning, childbearing Christian who is clever (but not too clever).” And then she added, “Not that I’m bitter, of course.”

uh, er, can someone send me her number?

I'll be glad to sing her a song of Solomon.......
