Have you studied it? Do you know what Catholicism is? I am not insulting you, just think it would be helpful info to know before responding.

Richard Rohr is Franciscan and is one of the greatest teachers I know of. Many Catholics think on a spiritual plan most Protestants never achieve.

But what exactly do you know about Catholicism -- the teachings of the church of Rome and the Vatican? Had you taken a closer look you would be wary of any commendation.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church can be read and studied online. However, if you really do not know Bible truth, everything will look very good. So it is time for you to first study the Bible and then examine the doctrines and practices of the RCC.

I can only speak about the people I am familiar with. I am beholden to no denomination.

There are people that hold a belief that is not part of the Bible, and it becomes their foundation for the interpretation of scriptures.

Joseph Smith, Mormon Church, had a belief that was not part of the Bible, and interpreted the scriptures that way.

The new age movement has a belief not part of the Bible, the occult, and evolution, and interpret the scriptures that way.

Christian Science, Scientology, and many have a belief not part of the Bible, and interpret scriptures that way.

And many people do it in little things, such as those that love money, interpret it that way that God blesses them with their wants, when having food, and clothing, be content, and liking to drink alcohol, and interpret it that way, when the Holy Spirit is the Comforter, and the prejudice interpret it that way, like England believing the throne of David moved to England giving them the God given right to rule the world, and the royal family the descendants of David, and the lost tribes of Israel being Europeans, and the African Americans believing they are the true Jews of the tribe of Judah.

And so forth, many different interpretation of people because they have a belief, or something they like, and interpret the Bible that way.

It is obvious that when the Roman Empire embraced Christianity that they did not get rid of their religious ways, paganism, the occult, and it became their foundation for the interpreting of scriptures.

Which is why they do so many practices that are unnecessary like pagans do, and traditions aplenty, and why the Pope can be the Holy Father, when Jesus said do not call anyone on earth father in a spiritual sense, but only your heavenly Father, and a man called the man Christ Jesus good, and He said why call Me good, there is only one good and that is God, giving glory to God that He is doing good because of God.

And Mary can be called the Queen of heaven, and the mother of God, and they have a statue of her, and reverence her, because pagans have a female deity, or great religious figure, but Jesus was speaking to a crowd, and the disciples said Jesus your mother, and brethren, stand without the crowd desiring to speak with you, and Jesus said who is My mother, and who is My brethren, and pointed to the disciples and said, behold My mother, and brethren, for whoever does the will of the Father the same is My mother, brethren, and sisters.

And Jesus was speaking to a crowd, and a woman spoke up and said basically blessed is the mother that gave birth to you, and Jesus said, yea rather, blessed is he that hears the word of God and does it.

So Jesus did not give any reverence to Mary, and did not exalt her, and said anybody that follows God is on the same level as her, and He called her woman throughout the scriptures, for while Mary is the mother of the man Christ Jesus, He is God that called her woman, and God gets the glory for He caused the conception to happen.

The Roman Catholic Church is pagan at it's roots, and because of that they can sway in their interpretation of scriptures from one day to another, and because of their pagan roots, which they do a lot of things that identify with paganism, then they will eventually follow the new age movement interpretation of the Bible.

Which I believe they have been infiltrated to corrupt her from within even more, and to lead the new age movement.

But it has to be since the Bible says the new age movement is the future for this sinful world, and the time will come that the world will only want to hear the Bible according to their false interpretation, so it has to be a great leader that is known as following the Bible, but also has the respect of the other religions, which the Pope would fit that description.

And when they change over to Jesus is a good teacher in the evolutionary process and love, and God is the power of nature, and they can still evolve through nature, the other religions will listen to the Pope and give heed to him, and the Pope will be the leader of the unified religious system, and the Vatican the headquarters, and the Pope the false prophet for the New Age Christ, who is the final teacher in the evolutionary process.

But it had to be, for while the Bible can save souls, it will also by a false interpretation of it deceive the world, along with all religions interpreted the same way by the new age movement, and the Roman Catholic Church fits the mold more than anybody else.

I used to work for Fr Michael Manning Inc as he was a Catholic speaker and had a TV show. I got in there bc my mother was Catholic. Some Catholics there believe in purgatory, asking Saints to intercede for them not just Jesus and I couldn't take Communion w/them but that happens in other Churches too. They definitely worship the Holy Trinity and I believe they will make it to Heaven.

They add a lot of extra things that arent biblical. Recommend you read the Bible first and then use discernment. From what I know, of christians who left, it was because of over emphasis of Mary, and other doctrines and practices that didnt line up with scripture.

GOd doesnt require us to join any man made church just the one Jesus called, so you not under any obligation to join a religious group. The RCC is very strict on many things, but there are many groups also that are similar that want to interpet the bible for you...when its the holy spirit that teaches us all things.

Hi Umzza, those who follow the conservative/orthodox Protestant faith walk in perfect harmony with about 90% of the Christian faith that is believed/taught by the RCC. The problem is found with the other 10% of the faith which, for the most part, cannot be harmonized (and never will be) unless one side or both is willing to change what they firmly believe and teach.

So, as a Protestant, the answer to your question is yes, SOME of what the RCC teaches is wrong (and out of those things, many of their soteriological teachings are particularly concerning).

This seems to be the #1 tenet that is attacked by Catholicism...
For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; (1 Timothy 2:5 KJV)
It seems there are oodles of mediators in Roman Catholicism just to get to Jesus when in acuality Jesus is the One and Only Mediator between God and man.

Actually any church will do for those not botn again. At least they get a sense of morality.
If God should make that effectual call to them, then He will bring them out.

I can only speak about the people I am familiar with. I am beholden to no denomination.
And unfortunately there are many fine, upstanding and admirable people who are Roman Catholic for one reason or another. But we cannot go by that criterion.

The issue is whether or not Catholicism presents "another Gospel" and another way of salvation. And here is what Paul says about any Gospel which is not the true Gospel:

GALATIANS 1
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Those who have compared the teachings of the church of Rome with the Bible have concluded that Catholicism is False Christianity. Those who are genuinely saved usually come out of Babylon. And the Reformers uniformly believed (though incorrectly) that the Pope was the Antichrist.

During the Reformation, the Catholic Church strongly opposed the Gospel of salvation by grace through faith PLUS NOTHING. Therefore they held the Council of Trent, and when you study the proceedings and rulings of this council (available online), you will find bitter opposition to the true Gospel. And ironically the Catholics said that the Reformers were *anathema* (accursed).

When a person's eternal salvation is at stake, he or she better know what the Bible says versus what any church or denomination teaches and preaches.

I would hope at least it is a Church that treats the Scriptures as the Word of God.

a. Idolatry
b. Numerous intecessors
c. Pope elevated to God status
d. Prepay for sins
e. Worship bone fragments, hair, teeth etc...
f. Full of pedophiles
g. False plan of salvation
h. Mary worship
i. Sacramental/Church salvation
j. False notion of purgatory

and the list grows to long to list all of them....!

Not saying some of what you have listed here is wrong, in fact some of it is 100% correct.
However many of these things that the Catholic Church condones officially Protestant churches do unofficially or call it something else. Both faiths are guilty of adding to the Bible things that are not there. Most Churches if followed blindly lead to error.
However both faiths have much to offer to bring us closer to God. For example:
The Catholics can be much more spiritually in tune with the living Jesus and his on going plan to defeat satan. Protestants seem to think Jesus only came to get us to heaven and his on going job is done.

All doctrines are to be tested through the Bible. We should not accept an other gospel than the one proclaimed by the apostles.

Today I am non denominational, but I was raised Catholic.
For the most part, I see a Catholic upbringing on the same level of a Jewish upbringing.
The reason for this is that in school the Catholic Catechism taught me to observe the same 10 Commandments, as in Judaism.
So to answer your question: No, Catholicism is not bad; it basically is the observance of the law; if followed and observed, it makes one a Jew, spiritually.
