RE: Sowing to The Spirit

Bear One Another's Burdens

1Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 3For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. 4But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5For every man shall bear his own burden.

6Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. 7Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Paul's Final Warning

11Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand. 12As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. 13For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. 14But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. 15For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.

Benediction

16And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

17From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.

18Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. {Unto the Galatians written from Rome.

Iā€™m wondering what it actually means to Sow to The Spirit,
Please could you help me expound on verse 8 please... how would I sow to the Holy Spirit..??

Been wondering if itā€™s a number of things:

like praying in The Spirit
walking in,
being led by,
crucifying my flesh..
renewing my mind to become spiritually minded as opposed to carnally minded..

... am I on the right track?
what else ???

Thanks so much, God Bless you All šŸŒ³

Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.

I take it to mean walking as Jesus would and walking in love. So where selfishness may lead someone to be lazy instead of helping out or pride may lead to looking down on others, walking in love can show in acts of service and humility such as willingness to associate with the lowly. These are some examples I thought of. Basically the Spirit will want completely different desires than would the self-seeking sinful nature.

This world is ran by the "Good old boy" buddy system. If you lend someone a helping hand, you have earned an "owed a favor" status. Everyone is patting each other on the back all for self advancement. That can be defined as the get-take attitude on life.

Christ came and told us to cast our bread upon the waters and to trust God to meet our needs (see Matthew 10:42 & 25:40). I call that the give-share attitude on life.

Ecc. 11:1, 2 "Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth."

Ancient Israel always had provisions for the poor and needy. Such as not gleaning their crops and leaving that for the poor. They collected an extra third-tithe that they stored themselves for the poor, priests and anyone that wished to feast with them. God wants us to acknowledge Him to increase our sustenance enough for this way of life.

Matt. 6:33, 34 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (food - clothes - shelter). Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

Good evening!

We were learning on this topic this week at church. I think youā€™re on the right track! Below are a couple scriptures we covered that relate as well.

Also, you may have heard this analogy or one similar but itā€™s something thatā€™s always resonated with me...The Spirit and the flesh are like trees growing within us. Whichever we water and nurture more will be the predominant force in our lives.

Romans 8:5ā€“8 (NKJV): For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Colossians 3:1ā€“5 (NKJV): If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

Hey! Deror... : )
Jesus said, "The words I speak unto you, they are Spirit and they are life."
And again, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."

The fruit produced from sowing to the Spirit, rather than to the flesh, is:

Gal 5 For the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance; against such there is no law.

So, we sow to the Spirit as the Holy Spirit illuminates scripture from our devotions and study time, and putting the Lord's laws and commandments into our hearts and minds; which along with producing the fruit of the Spirit, transforms us into the image of Christ as the faithful are predestined to become, and by reason of use exercises our senses to discern both good and evil which leads us to grow from babes in Christ into those who are spiritually mature.

At the time we are born again, we receive the gift of Holy Spirit and we can live our lives according to who we are in Christ (sow to the Spirit) or we can lives according to who we were in Adam (sow to the flesh).

If we go back to Galatians 5, we read about walking in the Spirit:

Galatians 5:

16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

When we "walk in the Spirit" we live according to who we are in Christ.

When we "fulfill the lust of the flesh" we live according to who we were in Adam.

Living according to who we are in Christ is contrary to who we were in Adam and the flesh cannot do the things it wants to do. Likewise if we live according to who we were in Adam, we are doing things which are contrary to who we are in Christ.

In Galatians 5:19-21 we see the works of the flesh. These are things which will be evidenced in our lives if we live according to who we were in Adam.

In Galatians 5:22-23 we see the fruit of the Spirit. These are things which will be evidenced in our lives if we live according to who we are in Christ.

At any moment in time we can check to see what "fruit" is evidenced in our lives. If we see that we are angry, envious, striving or any of the other things shown in Gal 5:19-21, we know we are living according to the flesh. If we see that we have love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, meekness, temperance, faith, we know that we are living according to who we are in Christ.

In Galatians 6:1-6 we read about helping each other live in this life.

Then in Galatian 6:8 we are told if we sow to the flesh we reap corruption; but if we sow to the Spirit we reap life everlasting.

The word "sow" is the Greek word speirĆ³ which is an agricultural term which means to sow ... like sowing seed. Thayer's renders the meaning of speirĆ³ as used in Galatians 8 as follows:

ĻƒĪ¬ĻĪ¾ [flesh] and Ļ€Ī½Īµįæ¦Ī¼Ī± [spirit] are likened to fields to be sown, to do those things which satisfy the nature and promptings of the ĻƒĪ¬ĻĪ¾ [flesh] or of the Ļ€Ī½Īµįæ¦Ī¼Ī± [spirit]

We can either live according to who we were in Adam (flesh) and reap the works of the flesh as shown in Gal 5:19-21 or we can live according to who we are in Christ (Spirit) and reap the fruit of the Spirit as shown in Gal 5:22-23 in our lives.

If at any time we see that we have the works of the flesh exhibited in our lives, we know that we are no longer walking according to the Spirit. We then turn our hearts to the Lord Jesus Christ and He is always there to welcome us to Himself. He never leaves us. However, we leave Him as we are drawn away from Him through the lusts of our flesh.

The sooner we realize that we are living our lives according to the flesh, the sooner we can turn our hearts back to Him and live our lives according to the Spirit.

Thanks Deade, thatā€™s an awesome helpful answer and Iā€™m really blessed by it, Thanks, because whatā€™s also been niggling away is the thing about multiplying ... and your post spoke to me about that too... also an example of how Joseph blessed people. :)
Also been thinking today about seedlings, when to get started.. I know itā€™s only Jan but every year Iā€™m late. This year Iā€™d love to be prepped and ready.. in addition to getting started with dehydrating foods, giving that a go. All related :D I love how Israel did their agriculture. Got some notes on it how God taught them how to go about all that. Itā€™s an interesting study. So cool, that give-share attitude. Thanks for the blessed response, awesome !! Given a new perspective on the sowing principle

Hi KD! Thanks for your response, Iā€™m trying to do an ongoing study on it.. and that Romans verse also came up in study too. Awesome youā€™re learning it in Church, Itā€™s funny cos after reading your post I thought of trees growing on The Rock, and had a picture of a range of trees from saplings, to fully grown trees growing on The Rock, and somewhere it says The Spiritual Rock.. so your analogy about the trees really resonated haha. Thanks for encouraging, have a good week
