Gal. 2:20
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
You should underline I'm crucified, there is no nolonger just a you alone (there never was but another message) Nolonger the just "I" you come to know and love. That life is crucified in Christ, and there is a new "I" now, not an old "I" made better or being fixed up as you grow in grace and knowledge, but a brand new "I".
Now that should be good news for most of us, if your like me then the first "I" was a disaster, gladly let it go and give life another stab.
I sadly have to report that the new "I" didn't go as well and as planned either, most of us start out good and end in some kind of life that reminds us of the first "I".
Mainly because we do not know how to handle the new "I", and we treat it like the first "I" and get into the same situations over and over.
In defence of the believer most are not taught anything about the new life, we are taught what makes good Christians and if you do this you are considered a good God fearing believer.
The only thing wrong with that, is everything, for starters you can't teach Christianity. Secondly you need a gospel that tells you who you are and about this new "I", new life which is Christ in you the hope of glory.
Be honest, when was the last time you heard a message about Christ in you as your only life, other than me sounding like a broken record.
You can hear about the multitude being fed, or how Jesus walked on water, or heaven will be so glorious. But anything about the new "I", the new life we have in Christ, as a message, not just mentioning it, but the message of Christ in you the hope of glory.
Your Father will need to reveal to you the new "I", man can't do it, it must come by HolySpirit taught knowledge, which is called revelation. Getting the minds eye to catch up with the facts, the opening of your understanding to the deep things of God, which is Christ in you the hope of glory, Ephesians 1:17-20
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
