if anyone might have presumed that his present salvation inevitably guaranteed his final salvation, it would have been the Apostle Paul.

But notice what Paul said I Cor. 9:27, "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." adokimos

Those of you who teach false security must have difficulty with this verse!

Please notice that Paul uses the very same word here translated "castaway" (adokimos) Rom. 1:28, where it is translated "reprobate"; adokimos

II Cor. 13:5, "Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates"; adokimos

II Tim. 3:8, where he speaks of false prophets as "men of corrupt
minds, reprobate concerning the faith"; adokimos

Titus 1:16, "They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate"? adokimos

In each case the word denotes those who are lost.

I know it is convenient to ignore the otherwise accepted usage of a word, and blithely say it means much less. But at least I can say that I tried
SAD TIMES! But still thanks for showing me that Goodnewsman I DID NOT KNOW THAT its the same word as REPROBATE! learn something new every day!

its true thats what it says! adokimos! Even Paul had doubts!

He said I know whom I have believed but then what he did at 1 cor 9:27 and in Philippians 3:11!

how is one opposed to God defined? what does that entail?
If you look at our past posts, you will see he lied and said that unbelieves will get to heaven, which was a lie, i exposed it yesterday by showing is said they will not get to heaven, and they will not enter in (heaven)

Again, he is just a spammer

HOWEVER,
NONE on your side of the fence...like to post what BELIEVE means in the Greek because it would go against your grain.

Make up your mind MMD.
What does BELIEVE mean....
I truly DONT KNOW what it means, i dont speak GREEK!

And I hate these debates because it always goes back to "THE GREEK"! I might as well become a KJV onlyist at this point because its so frustrating when everyone is quoting greek. Do you guys even speak it or are you just looking it up on biblehub, cause I can do that too, doesnt mean I know greek!

I would have to ask ANGELA who actually knows greek and has studied it, what does believe mean.

IF PAUL REALLY PREACHED THE OSAS DOCTRINE, WHY WOULD HE BE WORRIED ABOUT HIMSELF BECOMING A REPROBATE???

You have to remember that someone is an unbeliever if they choose deny anything Christ taught us.

Paul always feared he wouod bcome unqualified to teach the gospel, because something he did caused his reputation or light to be tainted,

Thats why he told us to work out our salvation, with fear, because we to are lights, so we should live above reproach.
Paul never feared loss of salvation

According to paul,

to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord

He will be raised

His knowledge of where he would spend eternity is what gave him the ability to see all his hardship as momentary light afflictions

He was given all things, even the seal of the spirit, which three times in three books he said was until the day of redemtion (day of ressurection)

He was justified, he was sanctified and he will be glorified

He was perfected forever by one sacrifice

I can go on and on, again, context and the rest of pauls writing has to be taken into account, proper hermenuetics uses all things (biblical context, historical context, languages, etc etc) and forms an interpretation based on all thse and more.

Remember the flaws of the english language, sometimes you need to go to the greek to see what is realy said, because of the appearant contradiction in the english

Again, when studying ,it is part of proper hermeneutics, when a questionable passage domes up, use all resources.

He worried about him becoming unqualified to teach the gospel because he did something that caused his character to be called to question,

You cant read all of pauls letters and think paul had any fear of losing salvation, it was his knowledge of his eternal state which fave him the strength to continue to run the race.

Even john in his letter said it is our inowldge that we have eternal life which powers us to continue to believe..

You got me thinking so i had to look it up.

He word root is a word which means in effect, origin or source, to render firm (probably where firm comes in) to establish to cause a person the be grounded

This word is preceded by the greek negative participle “ouk” meaning that these things have not occurred,

Ie, they had no root, no source or origin, they were never established,

I do not know how else you can say they were never saved, God saves us, we do not root ourselves, god establishes us in firm gound, he is the source or origin of our salvation, he is the one who grounds us in soil so we can not be moved.
Disagree, I really avoid giving Xs for the most part, however I will not let this drop, I will be back with a rebuttal.

Now get yourself ready EG cause you know I come out swingin :)

I thought that you were done with this thread? You said, "Who cares what the Greek word is" which says it all for you. You are very satisfied with what you already believe and don't want to be confused with the facts. Jesus said they BELIEVED for a while, but He DID NOT SAY they were SAVED for a while. The same Greek word for believe "pisteuo" is used in James 2:19, in which we read that the demons believe "mental assent" that "there is one God," but they do not believe "pisteuo" on the Lord Jesus Christ and are not saved. (Acts 16:31) *The CONTEXT determines the content of what is believed.

John has portrayed people who "believe" but are clearly not saved. There is a stage in the progress of belief in Jesus that "falls short of firmly rooted consummated belief resulting in salvation." As we see in John 2:23-25, in which their belief was superficial in nature and Jesus would not entrust/commit Himself to them.

Also, in John 8:31-59, where the Jews who were said to have "believed in him" turn out to be slaves to sin, indifferent to the words of Jesus’, children of the devil, liars, accused Jesus of having a demon and were guilty of setting out to stone and kill the one they have professed to believe in. You called that saved?
I have too much fun here.
Just like you said.
You know I'll always come back...
I need my breaks every now and then...

I'm very satisfied that the translators of the Greek know it a whole lot more than you do.
Do you have a PhD after your name? Do you read the New Testament in Greek? No. Well, some do and I tend to trust them more than Strong's. Not that Strong's gets it wrong,,,but I don't need it becaue my theology is reconcilable with all of the N.T. and yours is not.

So now Jesus didn't know what He meant?
He said BELIEVED instead of SAVED.
So what must one do to be saved?
Be saved?
Really, listen to yourself MMD.
To be saved
One must BELIEVE.

Please stop telling me what Believe means since I've been trying to do that since I got here to no avail. IF WE BELIEVE JESUS,,,, We're SAVED.

The demons also believe...but not the believe Jesus talks about.
No need to keep bringing that up.
No need to keep mentioning context...we all know about context.

As to what you quote above...
Luke 8.13
James 2:19
John 2:23
John 8:31

I checked Strong's Greek Lexicon and it shows no. 4100 for all 4 of the verses.
Could you help me out here? I don't know what your point is.

We all know what believe in Jesus means.

I am assuming eternally grateful just admitted he is a non-believer. Prove me wrong if you think eternally grateful is a believer.

The entire passage in 1 Corinthians 9 Paul is talking about rewards, and prizes, NOT Salvation. Salvation is a GIFT, NOT A PRIZE TO BE WON. He did not want to be disqualified for rewards, crowns, and other good things at the judgement seat of Christ.

We tend to view everything in terms of saved or unsaved.
Obviously those are the most important distinctions, but we forget that there is going to be a judgement for the living (saved Saints) and the dead (unsaved).
Those things are going to become MASSIVELY important in light of eternity.
