Where in the scriptures does it say we are saved by “faith alone”?

The principle of faith requires obedience to activate faith, making it alive, otherwise it’s dead.

JPT
Where in the scriptures does it say we are saved by faith "and works"? Our faith is activated, making it alive by grace through faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:5-8) Saved through faith and works? (Ephesians 2:8,9) NO. Saved through faith in Christ alone.

“If you love Me, keep My commandments. John 14:15

If you worship other gods, is that loving God or hating God?
  1. Loving God
  2. Hating God

If I murder my neighbor, is that loving my neighbor or hating them?

  1. Loving my neighbor

If I steal from my brother is that loving him?

This is for @Hevosmies too.

He is 100% correct.
Scripture teaches that we're to have
FAITH
HOPE
CHARITY (LOVE)

So, scripture teaches that we need at least Faith, Hope, and Love.
So, Faith alone is not biblical.

1 Corinthians 13:13
13But now faith, hope, love, abide these three;

Please answer the questions then if you agree.

the lie is this-
the same man , in the same letter, after he stated keep the commands , went on to lay out what the commands are.

so, to just snip out one thing that John said, and use it point anywhere one wants , is a deceptive lie, because John stated what the Commands are.

but, coming from one who thinks " believe " and " obey " are the same word ( they are not ). you would not see my point.
But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him:
Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
1 John 2:5-6

John is saying we are to walk as Jesus did.

gb9, I hate to suggest this is not what you meant, but what you are saying is we must walk as Jesus did.

Amen, Halleluyah, Praise the Lord for His victory, His Holy Spirit overcoming in us

believe in the name of the Son and love one another.

1st John chapter 3.
Here are some other commandments from 1 John:

1. Do not say you have fellowship with God but walk in the dark...you will be lying.
2. Walk in the light as He is in the light.
3. Confess your sins.
4. Do not think you have no sin.
5. Keep His commandments.
6. If you do not keep His commandments, you are a liar.
7. Be perfected.
8. Walk in the same manner as Jesus walked.
9. The one who says he is in the light but hates his brother is in the darkness.
10. Love your brother and abide in the light.
11. Do not let the darkness blind your eyes.
12. Overcome the evil one.
13. Come to know God.
14. Do not love the world.
15. Do the will of the Father so you can live forever.

The above covers 1 John 1:1 to 2:16
and there are still 3 1/2 chapters.

The N.T. is chock full of commands...
it's just that some prefer not to see them....

He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 1 John 2:4

“You have heard that it was said to those of old, You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.
Matthew 5:21-22

“You have heard that it was said to those of old, You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. Matthew 5:27-29

“Furthermore it has been said, Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery. Matthew 5:31-32

Many on this thread insinuate this....
and some have come right out and said it plainly.

So, if you do NOT have a problem with this concept....
WHY don't you just agree?

Why do you worry about the moral law if the pure Holy Spirit has taken up residence within your heart?
The early church had the Holy Spirit inside them. YET STILL Paul and the rest wrote letters to them to do this do that dont do this dont do that.

Why bother writing any of those epistles if the Holy Spirit is just going to take care of it automatically?

Speaking of this bros

Read the Roman Catholic definition of faith. It includes baptism, right?

Enter Luther, enter the reformation. They came up with the slogan "Sola Fide, Sola Scriptura, Sola deo Gloria and Sola cant rememberia." Basically: Faith alone through Christ alone. We the protestant church then picked up this slogan of Faith alone and still use it to this day.

BUT I would contend after reading Luther's writings that HE DID NOT believe in faith alone as we believe it. If you read the Lutheran catechism they STILL require baptism for salvation and teach it saves!
So much for faith alone! I wonder why they picked that slogan!
I have wondered this myself.

They also still believe in Gods presence in the eucharist.

They sure do. I live in a Lutheran country where majority of people are confirmed and baptized into the lutheran church. They teach the smaller catechism to everyone and they definately still believe in real presence and baptismal regeneration. YET the faith alone "slang" is thrown around and they pretend to not be catholic. I DONT GET IT. Especially now with ALL the major denominations going back to Rome and succumbing to ecumenicalism. Here is a list of denominations included:

-Pentecostals
-Baptists
-Anglicans
-Eastern Orthodox
-Methodists
-Presbyterians
-Reformed churches
-Southern baptists
-Mormons (tsk tsk. yes. Mormons, in fact the Pope doesnt mind hanging around with a hindu priest holding his idol elephant god in his hand while a cross is in the background wall).

Safe to say RIP reformation, thats a done deal. Its over.

I was saved and grew up baptist. Was a member of many baptist churches. They never believed in the presence of the eucharist or any of the other sacrmants being required to be saved.
