What was the purpose for the breastplate of the Priest which held the Urim and the Thummim?

Lev. 8:8 "And he put the breastplate upon him: also he put in the breastplate the Urim and the Thummim."

Question: What is the symbolic meaning of the divining stone Thummim in the priest's breastplate?
Hmmm.........not sure you can actually prove this with Bible scripture so, it may be irrelevant......

But, my guess would be ......... Word and the Spirit of God - those are the only two that agree and are always aligned with the Father's Will.

Sorry @Lafftur, Nebuchadnezzar is indeed the king who spoke those words, but it's the name of his evil grandson that I was looking for/that is the actual answer to my trivia question.

~Deut
p.s. - remember that like Nebuchadnezzar, his evil grandson was also a king.
Since we have already moved on, for anyone who is interested, the grandson of Nebuchadnezzar, and the answer to my unanswered trivia question, is "Belshazzar" .. see Daniel 5. He was the evil grandson of King Nebuchadnezzar.

The somewhat tricky part is the fact that Belshazzar refers to Nebuchadnezzar as his "father" in Daniel 5, but what he was actually saying in Hebrew was "ancestor", instead of "father".

Nitocris is both the daughter of Nebuchadnezzar and the mother of Belshazzar, just FYI.

Close, but no cigar!

No, I guess it does require a Strong's reference so it may be disqualified on that. Here is Strong's interpretation:

tûmmı̂ym
toom-meem'
Plural of H8537; perfections, that is, (technically) one of the epithets of the objects in the high priest’s breastplate as an emblem of complete Truth: - Thummim.

And Urim represents light. Together they represent light and truth.

Didn't they flash or light up somehow when they asked to know the will of God? Seems to me I read that somewhere. :) I read a lot.

There is something about them that they used to divine, or to seek an answer from God, if you will. They used them like drawing lots to get an answer from God. We would have to go outside of scripture to study their historical significance. Probably more trouble than it is worth.

1Sam. 28:6 And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets. :)(y)

True. But, we have Holy Spirit to lead us and the inner voice of His Spirit. No need to cast lots or divine questions.

So I love researching the history of the Jews and their ways.

Oh, I have done lots like drawing straws to decide a factor as an answer from the Lord. Have you not gone a spell when the HS failed to immediately answer you? Then there is the fact of getting another to agree on an answer being divine. The short straw (as long as you consider it from God) is a good method to get an agreement. :)(y)

Lol...

In the beginning I tried putting out fleeces. Or letting my bible fall open to see what comes up. But, not now.

Now I wait. I've made mistakes with presumption. Probably will again too. Unknowingly though until later. Drat!

Why did Moses become angry with Aaron's surviving sons?
Are these the two sons that offered "strange fire"? If yes, I'm not sure if Moses was angry but, definitely God was angry!

Did Jesus' disciple, John ever fall down and worship an angel he encountered?
Rev. 22:8, 9 "And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God." And the angel would not let him!
