Do you think that technology distracts us from God? Seems that it does for so many. I know its how you use it and what your intentions are but it really does seem to lead many astray and keeps their minds preocupied on things that are not of God.
Does this seem logical?

Technology has many goods and bads.
I don’t believe anything can be defined as good or bad by ourselves.

Technology is what is allowing us to discuss the Bible daily.
It helps families communicate when they live states away.
It allows first responders to respond quickly.

It helps married people live a secret life.
It helps people lure innocent children

I do believe that there is no substitute for human face to face interaction but when we cannot do that, it is a better choice than no interaction.

Don’t be fooled, God has the ability to speak through technology.

Im not fooled, and as i said it depends on your intentions. You are also correct in what you say. You know i posted this to get different opinions on this topic to see just where people stand. Whether it be kids or adults i have noticed that as time passes it seems its almost a silent ceeping addiction. People can sit together in a crowded bus and they just keep their head down and see nothing but their phone. I see this at work every day, they sit there and stare at their phone and dont speak or look at anyone. That was not the case all that long ago. Same with kids at home now. They have to have their phone and games. No family interaction. I know that many others have noticed this as well and does seem to be getting worse. What do you think?

Yes, its a time robber, and relationship killer. I speak from SMartphone,Computer, TV and Company. You cant see nearly nobody who is not staring in his Handy. And it becomes more difficult to live without this. For us old folks, which know a time before the Handy/socialmedia age began it may be not so tremendous, but for the young generations today this is worse and will be more worse.
Other techneologie like in Hospital are of course useful.
I suppose you meant in first line the smartphone, I phone, socialmedia technologie.

Of course i speak of technology that seems to take from human interaction and also such as tv that now shows and speaks of things that were not even mentioned in secret a long time ago, but now its right there for the kids to absorbe. And just about anywhere they go, in stores and you name it. And its getting so much worse now. But it seems to be happening not all at once, but slowly, its to the point now where nothing said or done is a big deal, no matter what. Thats scary stuff. More going on here that one might think. Good reply, thank you.

Yes definately.

With all the good technology brings, it has destroyed an entire generation. Morally speaking

The kind of wickedness the new generation can access from their phones is UNHEARD OF in the past.

It is depressing to see so many people glued to their phone screens all the time. No smartphone here, I just own a computer. Don't know if I'll ever get a smartphone.

Alright. So this is something that you see as well.
Another question. Do you think that all the ones that have phones with this technology realize this as well? Or are they blind to it? Kind of like when kids used to play outside and do things together in a real world instead of living in a screen. The kids today dont even know what thats like. It doesent seem like they even realize it. Kind of like some addiction. Everything seems ok untill the addiction gets so bad its to late.
And would i be stretching things a bit to feel that this is also a perfect place to jump into little childrens heads along with the rest? Somehow i think that it is.

your reply shouldn't apply to innocent children with all that is corrupting their minds with these phones. That would be up to the parents to control but they allow it and so it is. But the kids pay for it and because of that we all will.

We aren't going to agree on much. Likely only irritate each other. It's probably best if we don't respond to each other anymore.

technology gives us sites like CC where we can discuss topics however if there was no online discussion groups i would get out more and discuss these things with people in the real world. IMO technology makes us lazy, takes the life out of life.

I agree like all blessing of God, the father of lies the counterfeiter loves to turns things upside down. Nothing in itself is evil other than the evil one and the legion that followed after. Just as no one is good save the our father in heaven not seen.

I do believe that technology can be used falsly. like the idea with computer chips inanimate objects with no life used as some sort of sign even though no sign was given other than the sign of Jonah.. we are warned of sign seekers in that way of not walking by faith.

Technology does not reveal the mysteries of God as the new age, old age god of this world.. When The Holy Spirit put his thoughts on the mind of the prophet John, I would believe John understood what the mark of man, as beast of the field formed from the clay of the field represented.

It is neither good nor bad.....and many things can be lumped into that grouping.....in this age it has allowed for the spread of the gospel to places it would have never been spread to.....I guess it just boils down to usage and how it is used at the end of the day.

Yes, thats not wrong. But this technologie prepares the way of the antichtist to controle everything. When G5 is coming, the cashmoney ends. Then the time is neat when all are depending from this technologie and the system/person who rules this system. In germany are plans to finish cashmoney till 2023,if I am not wrong.

As a former elementary school teacher, and grandmother to 6 young grandchildren, social media is no one's friend. Add to that, almost any program or screen time for young children, and there is a huge experiment going in for this generation and future generations, that could bring down society, IMO!

My 2 month old grandson, is more attracted to a screen, than his mother's face. Three of my other grandkids, the same. Two grandchildren are not affected at all! Because their parents have not let them use screens, except in long distance car trips, where the watch pre-screened children's movies. No games, nothing else.

One 6 year old had autism, he reads at a high level, and can do anything on an IPad. But his speech lags behind, his social interactions are poor. His parents mouth how important it is for their kids to only be online occasionally. Other than hockey and school, he is literally online every other minute. He is total Addict!

The two not allowed on screens are articulate, creative, have excellent social interactions, and both attend a charter gifted school. Their mom is a doctor, she read all the scholarly research on screens and young children, and talked it over with my son, and they both agree no screen time. I can't believe anyone would chose otherwise. They are active in hockey, soccer, swimming and skiing. They play outside with the neighbourhood kids daily.

The grandson who cannot turn off the IPad never plays outside for fun. He only plays in a park, for a short time, under the eye of one or both kids. Another way to stifle children's development.

My kids did not grow up with phones or computers. Except my daughter, that I bought a phone for in grade 11, after she got her driver's license. She's pretty hooked on screens, too!

The worst is my husband and me. I am on my IPhone, IPad or computer a lot of the day. I say I am there to help people grow in God, and learn things. But it is a lie.

I believe it has pulled my husband far from God. It certainly has not enhanced my walk with God.

I really fear for the outcome of this big social experiment. Because if a baby, a 6 year old, a 40 year old and a 65 year old can all get addicted, what will happen when those raised with the internet do not even know how bad it is!?

Here are a few articles to ponde. They do not directly address the OP's question of how screenscaffect spiritual development or our spiritual relationship with God, but let me put it this way:

If screens affect social, physical, and cognitive development, I would think they are also damaging to spiritual development and our relationship with God!

There are many ways to distract yourself from God--if people didn't have modern technology to do it, they would still have things like sex and drugs and such to occupy themselves in that pursuit. For the most part, technology serves to simplify the means to achieve things and save time, so to what ends you choose to employ those resources are your own decision.

"Are we not witnessing attributes of 'growing pains'...consequences of which has brought
