It states that he will cause ALL TO TAKE it dia threat of death.......and or if they want to buy, sell or get gain.....
a. Some will take it willingly
b. Some will take it for fear of death
c. Some will take it to participate in the world's system of buying, selling or getting gain
Those who do not take it will be ostracized, imprisoned and or ultimately killed by being beheaded
Seeing that most on site believe that they are all going to be taken off before the beast arrives the question about the mark and almost
everything else mentioned in revelation has no application to them

But the good news is those that refuse to worship the image and refuse the Mark of the beast will still have the door to eternal life with Jesus open to them..
No point in saving your earthly life by taking that mark when by doing so you lose your eternal life with God..

If you can reject it, It must mean that you are willing to accept or deny it.. I also believe it is not going to be something that we are fooled into taking, I do believe we will know what it is.. For all we know. It could be somethign we already have, and the beast makes people make a proclamation for people to follow him with a new number as a means of worship.
There is no work we could do to get our self saved or a work that we could do to keep the grace of God through his great mercy. If He has begun the good work in us he will finish it till the last day, the day all receive their promised incorruptible bodies.
666 I believe has another meaning attached to it. I would think the kind of meaning that as truth we should buy and not sell the spiritual understandings hid in parables. The doctrine according to my understanding would seem to have been literalized. Not a literal mark as a sign but rather mark as understanding .
Proverbs 23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Revelation 13:17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Beasts points to the clay or dust were mankind is formed of . From dust we are from to dust it will return .Our living hope is a new incorruptible body that will never die..
Genesis 13:16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
I think in that way the dust of the earth if it could be numbered would be 666 a sign of natural unconverted man who does not know God .
Mankind as a beast of the field was created on day 6 . frequently the Holy Spirit uses the word three as the end of the matter. (666)
I think a good example using the dust of the field to help distinguish the mark is with Cain and Able the field and ground set the stage or foundation .

You could apply you response to almost every answer posted about this subject it appears to mean anything people choose to believe it to mean. From symbolism to Tattoos and Micro Chips. My eyes roll when I see another posting about it
You need to avoid discussing any options whatsoever. The Mark of the Beast is in the future, so you have been warned in Scripture.

You are on the right wave length. The Bible explains itself. The members of the seven Churches knew what it meant because
Revelation was written to them. They knew the Bible and were guided by the Holy Spirit when studying it.
Who exactly do you think is being warned? I believe it was the first century Church:

What do you think they thought shortly meant? 2000 plus years?
If there is a further time for this to happen then according to popular
belief all believers will be raptured so the mark of the beast wont
affect them. Only unbelievers will take the mark.

If we are raptured before or during the reign of the beast
the Mark will have no effect on us only on unbelievers who
will worship him and his image.
I believe we are raptured at the one second coming but thats
