It's not a "story" it's exactly what happened in Acts. This man barely knew English, the Holy Spirit lead him to a place where he heard the Word in his own tongue. He was saved and became a minister of the Gospel. Like I said, not gibberish, not demonic, not made up.
If I am reading this correctly. This is how I believe tongues is used today. It served a purpose to lead a man to christ.

Sorry for the word sizzling. A supernatural fire. I was just thinking as sign of His approval (Its hot!) licks up all the competition. I think it was simply a way of saying they had the approval of God. Why it was split? Perhaps to represent both testaments becoming one new stamp of approval.
I think it was a term, that these diverse tongues spread like wildfire to numerous people. And these actions drew a huge group of people to hear God.

Not sure sizzling or supernatural anything

Yes fire, tongues like as of fire

A physical manifestation of the Holy Spirit that has no physical substance??

It was a vision that the Holy Spirit developed in Paul's fleshly mind that appeared as if it was literal physical manifestation But it must have a spiritual understanding. I would think a symbol of his approval the gospel .
Think reading to much into it..

Yes, the lady told him how to be saved in his own tongue. I heard his testimony for many years from my parents until I actually met him and ministered at his church. Wonderful testimony.

It is things like this that I feel god shared with me a few years ago that stopped me from being a cessationalist. I felt him telling me, Listen son, If I need to use this gift, why would I not do it? Why would you hinder me from using all the resources I have to bring people to myself?

God has been working on my pride for quite a few years.. Its been a blessing but at same time, I wish sometimes he would stop!! He keeps proving to me I am not as smart as I thought I was

I heard someone say once "The older I get the more people I'm letting into heaven". We never stop learning unless we are too hard hearted or dogmatic for the Lord to speak to us. I think I traveled in so many churches that it kept me open. I recall one night two nuns came up to me after the service. I was bracing for what they were going to say but we had an amazing conversation. We talked for the longest time. Neither of us totally believe the same as the other but we had great fellowship on what we did agree on. A pity that doesn't seem to happen here at CC very often.

The gift has not ceased . We have the perfect. Some say there is something missing? New prophecy has ceased. Old prophecy (the Bible) is still alive and does not return void from the purposes in which he sends it . I ask usually... need more that he has revealed? How much....need more?

Ecclesiastes 5:11 When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?

First unbelievers mock and blaspheme the Holy Spirit (God)
and go on to call Jesus evil and adulterous ...

15 And [Jesus] said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
So this here helps illustrate the problem. Some are going to jump on this and say "well then do you go around grabbing snakes?" But that falls under the scripture to not tempt God. Some idiots think that's a free hand to go grabbing any snake they want and they get bit. Does that mean the scripture is fake? NO! It means you stepped beyond the boundary of what God intended. You took what was intended one way and tried to work it a different way.

That's how it is with tongues. There is a correct way that God intended. Then there are all the other ways we humans mess that up. That doesn't mean the intended use is rendered false.

If God needs me to speak in German or spanish to lead someone to christ, Then The HS will work through me and I will speak the gospel to him, and he will hear my words in his own language

The bible being perfect or not has no bearing whatsoever on God doing this. In fact, In the tribulation period. I believe this will occur in GREAT waves as the gospel is spread in spite of the opposition. And Gods people will need encouraged even more. Because everything appears to be stacked against them

Prideful much?

There are a few flaws with this thinking (in trying to “untangle” things you made things worse actually.

1. If one commits the “unpardonable sin, They are lost without hope. Jesus said it will not be forgiven. Not now, not ever, so there could be no redemptin from that sin once a person actually commited that sin
2. You claim it is only if people claim ALL tongues are demonic. Again this is a major issue, If you speak tongues, and it is the HS speaking through you, and I claim you spoke through a demon, Then by your definition, I have commited that sin, It does nto matter if I think all tongues speakers do that or not, And also by defenition, I am now lost forever wiht no hope of redemption.
3. Again, Your claiming whoever does that will end up in hell BECAUSE they did that, That is not found in scripture period.
You want to claim you speak in tongues and it is from God, I can;t argue because I am not there, and can not see th eproofs.

But you want to claim whoever says it is done by demons, has commited the unpardonable sin, I will argue because it is not true.

And again, Context is THe SIGNS which pointed to JESUS and who he was. Your not Christ, So no matter what, It has nothing to do you with you.
Well, let me ask you this, separate and apart from the tongues issue:

Does someone who commits an unpardonable sin get into heaven? Can we get into heaven with an unpardonable sin on our record? Can Jesus forgive an unpardonable sin?

It may help PART of the problem. But it does not answer the fact that MANY children of God has been KILLED because they ACCIDENTLY got bit by snakes. Or drank poison (were murdered)

If ALL who are born again by believing and being baptized WILL HAVE this sign follow them (those are the words spoken) then either scripture is proven to be a lie. Or it was never part of scripture to begin with.

Well lets see. You were born apposed to the HOLY SPIRIT. You denied the HOLY spirit up until the day you supposedly came to christ, in which you claim you repented and stopped calling the Holy Spirit a liar.

So you tell me, Was your sin unpardonable?

So... you're taking narrative as doctrine. That's usually a bad idea.

Where were the cloven tongues of fire in Acts 10 and 19? Where was the interpretation? Where were the unsaved Jews hearing the words spoken in tongues?

Sorry, you cannot create a sound biblically doctrine of tongues solely from Acts 2.
That is true. Acts 2 is but one element in the overall picture.

Dodge?

Dude, please stop. Your making things worse on yourself

He made a claim against people. I asked for evidence that his claim was truthful. As of yet he has never given such evidence to support his claim. Can you? Or ARE YOU AND HIM DODGING?

But it still is a very important element, You talk to people. They will ALWAYS use acts 2 as proof text.

So then has the snake verse been put out of service? Did that too cease?

And yes, claiming EVERYONE has to speak in a tongue is Biblically false.

Not sure who is making it worse... I would say your artful dodger act is doing that.

OK. The Bible clearly says that anyone who attributes the work of the Holy Spirit to satan has committed blaspheme that cannot be forgiven.

So a Christian, under the power of the Holy Spirit, speaks in a genuine authentic tongue.

Another person hears that and says, since tongues have ceased they must have spoken from a demon.

Is that NOT right out of Mark 3 et al?

I'm sorry dude, but making 2+2 equal anything other than 4 is a lie and a dodge.

Who says this? Please quote them directly, so we may all see for ourselves what "they" say.

8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
the miraculous gift of interpretation directly given by God on that day to kick-start the new covenant off with a bang -
three thousand souls believed and followed the express directions given by Peter as to what they needed to do to be saved!
I often wonder if the speakers in Acts 2 were speaking in the listeners language, or if the listeners were acting under the Holy Spirit as their own interpreters..?
