For over twenty five I have been baptised in the Holy Ghost.
From day one I was like a lost fish who found a pool of water in the Sahara Desert. It was through scriptures I learned how to use this gift and never looked back.
I have complied a list to help those who have been baptised in the Spirit maybe to have better understanding.
I have been Blessed with 7 version of praying in the Spirit
God Bless

The Purpose of the Gift of Divers Tongues
1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
Isaiah 28:11-12 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
A Spiritual rest and refreshing (times when you are physical and spiritually weary)

1 Corinthians 14:21-22 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
When an interpretation is revealed the unbeliever will believe

1 Corinthians 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying (church edification with interpretation)

Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost:
Praying in the Spirit is the “Gateway “to the other gifts of the Holy Ghost.
It increases your Faith by giving you a hunger for the Word: Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
As you seek and study the Word the Lord will reveal new revelations and strength to be a Doer of the Word with these new knowledge and your faith level will grow: Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Not only this gift is the gateway to the other gifts but it is the evidence of the power of God: 1st Corinthians 2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
It is through this gift we are able to fulfil: John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease. As our logical/fleshly mind decease’s, we will have a more “Christ-like mind”
As your Faith increase God will give you the other Gifts of the Holy Ghost for you will have the Faith to operate with the Gifts.

  • 1 Corinthians 14:4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself.......... (similar to a flat battery jumped started, it renews your strength and mind spiritually “lifted up)

  • 1 Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
  • 1 Corinthians 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
3 areas to Pray with understandings:
  • 1 Corinthians 14:13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. (pray for interpretation)
  • Knowing the Purpose of this Gifts, knowing the scriptures related to this Gift. Example as you are praying in the spirit, according to the scriptures you are “Building up your most Holy Faith praying in the Holy Ghost”
  • Praying with your mind focused on your pray points while praying in the Spirit (a wondering mind is unfruitful)

  • 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
  • 1 Corinthians 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
  • 1 Corinthians 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God
  • 1 John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

8. Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
The Holy Spirit will not only show what to Pray for but how to pray for it.

Romans 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Every time you pray in the Spirit, you are praying according to God’s Will and making intercession for the saints.

To be a Witness for Christ

  • Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
  • Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

The Holy Ghost will empower you by increasing your faith, giving you all the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, boldness/fearless to preach the Gospel to your nation and Eastern Bloc countries, nations/ people who reject the Gospel of Jesus: “The Uttermost”

MARK 16: the verses that Christians love to hate …
14 Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen.
15 And he [Jesus] said to them, Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they shall speak in new tongues;
18
they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.
19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.

On Sunday the 1st December 1996 whilst in a prayer room seeking to receive the Holy Spirit I suddenly burst out speaking in
a new tongue and my eyes were opened to the knowledge of Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour.
I experienced a wonderful revelation about the truth of the Bible and the scriptures that had called me to this baptism in the
Holy Spirit.
That very day God cleansed and set me free from 25+ years of cigarette and marihuana addiction, along with taking away my
intravenous junkie injecting (speed and heroin); and when I relented he took away the alcohol as well.
I was instantly set free without any pain or withdrawal symptoms. "The truth shall set you free."
I have been praying in tongues daily now for these last 23 years not just for myself, but also for others > so many miracles,
so many healings, so many blessings large and small.

Praying in tongues is praying in the Holy Spirit > praying in the power of God.

Sorry but you start on an incorrect understanding if Isaiah 28 to construct a false premise to support your position. Tongues are not the rest in Isaiah 28:12 but the word of God. The tongues in verse 11 are the stammering tongues of the Assyrians who were about to take Israel captive. Tongues that are stammering because Israel would not understand them.

Rightly dividing the word of God will correct unsound doctrine.

Another thread? I mean really we do not have enough of these?

Yes their is (was) a purpose for the gift of tongues.

1. To share the gospel with people who did not speak your language
2. As a sign to the jews as prophesied in the OT
3. To edify the church (especially in those early days when it was all new)

4. as a sign to Peter and other jews that the HS will be given to gentiles also (something they did not believe)

And tongued does not come from the baptism of the spirit. This is a false truth, and is not according to scripture I am not sure where this idea came from, but it could not have came from the word. (I can see why some can THINK this, because of the first event where they both occurred) but after further study, how they can maintain that belief I can not understand.

The baptism of the spirit is the baptism of Christ prophesied by John, (john said he who comes after will baptise with the HS and fire)

What is the purpose of this baptism?

To separate the wheat from the chaff

Those baptised in the spirit will be brought to the barn (Heaven)

Those who are not will be baptised into the eternal fire which shall never be quenched (hell)

1 Corinthians 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits;
Where the scripture says, that a believer will get all the gifts of the HolY Spirit? You are leaving the truth in proclaiming such things.
to another the interpretation of tongues:

My friend when you read and study the Bible, you will find Jesus operated with all these Gifts in His walk and the disciples after the “upper room encounter”
As the scripture states as you pray in the Holy Spirit you are building up your faith to receive the other gifts
In the end it not you does the work .its’ HIM
1 Corinthians 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Obiviously you do not have faith to ask for this type of Baptism and how do you know Jesus was not praying in the language, were you there?

I notice the most harsher's critics of this Gift, are those who do not have this Gift,
Incrediable you can speak on a subect you have no personal experince with.
2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

How can you ask for something God already has accomplished?

Ps. I believe God still uses tongues today. So I am not a critic of the gift. But of the belief in how one gets the gift

One question have you been baptise in the Spirit?
And tongued does not come from the baptism of the spirit. This is a false truth, and is not according to scripture
Please enlighten us with supporting scriptures to back your statement
For: Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 10:44-46 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
These are my supporting scriptures

This is the Holy Spirit we are talking about. One must be careful when talking about HIM. If you do not believe on this baptism Praise the Lord But do not restrict others who do believe and wish this Gift
Matthew 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

My friend

Learn what the baptism of the spirit is, And have faith if you were saved You were baptised as God promised

And please stop telling people to ask for somethign they already experienced

It will help you greatly in your future encounters.
If you have the experence you will be suppoeting the scriptures i have stated. We would both in agreement

What experience?

The baptism of the spirit is not an experience it is an event

it is the act of God washing your sins and making you white as snow as he baptizes you into the death and burial of Christ, (rom 6) In christ himself. And finally baptising you into the body of Christ, (adoption) where you become a child of God (or as john the baptist said, He will baptise you with the HS) it is where we are spiritually circumcised with the circumcision done without the hands of man (col 2)

AFTER this, I am annointed by the spirit, where I am sealed unit the day of redemption

Due to this annointing, I am empowered wiht many things, including understanding, and gifts of the spirit (here is where the gift of tongues or any other gift comes from)

How can you ask for something God already has accomplished?

Ps. I believe God still uses tongues today. So I am not a critic of the gift. But of the belief in how one gets the gift
Simple Bro you just Jesus to Baptise you

One question have you been baptise in the Spirit?
Yes, I was baptized into the death burial body and even christ himself on the day of my conversion where by Gods mercy I was washed (Baptized) by the spirit (titus 3) as all people who have been adopted into Gods family after the day of pentecost are.

You are given gifts because the HS is poured into you. It is the act of the HS coming into you body and filing your soul.

This is called anointing, not baptism

Baptism represent cleansing or being cleansed in religious terms, things are baptized in water, in blood, which is symbolic of what God does when he baptizes us into the death and burial blood) of christ. Also. Just as the jews were baptized into UNION with moses (moses being the head) we are baptized into Christ (Christ being the head) Jhn said we would be baptised by Jesus (in the HS and an eternal fire) so we are either baptised with the HS, or we are baptised into hell. There is no other option.

It has to do with defining terms, the passage you used does not support your point, Interpret the word (baptize) not the term

I asked jesus to save me, a sinner, And he baptised me that very minute on the spot.

if he did not. I am still dead in my sin.
