If and when you become mature in Christ you'll learn that responding in this way does nothing except stoke your self-righteousness.
What can I say? I cannot make you receive the word of God.

Joh 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

For the cause of Christ

Meanwhile back at the ranch, while cessationists delude themselves with denials of the continuing work and power
of the holy Spirit confirming the word of God … there is an ongoing worldwide Pentecostal revival happening:
particularly in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific islands, Africa and Asia (including China).

The full gospel is preached
People believe and repent and come to faith in Christ Jesus and his salvation
People are water baptized by full immersion
Many have their first healing miracles: the blind gain sight, the deaf hear, the lame walk, the sick are healed,
Church members lay hands on these novice disciples and people are taught to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit
with the Bible evidence of speaking in new tongues.

People are dramatically converted from their previous sinful worldly lives and become converted pretty well immediately
by the power of God within them …
Alcoholics stop drinking
Those that chew beetlenut (a narcotic berry) stop this habit
Wife bashers become good husbands
Criminals and violent people become good members of their village and start to live righteously
Men put away their machetes and stop revenge attacks on neighbouring villages
Perpetrators of murders and violence against others go and reconcile with their victims and surviving families,
and seek forgiveness for their crimes (offering atonement to those who have suffered by them)
Drug addicts are miraculously cleansed and set free from their addictions (heroin, marihuana, cigarettes, etc)
Converts become disciples and have testimonies to their conversion and praying in tongues when receiving the Holy Spirit
and to the multiple many healings, miracles and blessings in their new life in Jesus.

Nobody doubts that God works today mightyful to save souls, as he did the last 2000 years.
This has nothing to do with the denomination you belong. At has to do to spread the Gospel, the word of God.
And he uses moracles to show that he has more power and is more trustful then all man made gods of this world.

And God useing us imperfect, failerful people to do this.

If you believe that this charismatic/ pentecostal teaching is true, then believe it. God can use it, solong his word is shared in truth.
But i fear the spirit behind this teaching can lead you without you recognoize it in a wrong direction.

Dear Kelby, thank you for your reply.
When i became a christian in 87, i had also friends in an pentecostal church. And I was open for every kind of denomination, because i see myself as a christian, but not as baptist, menonite ore something else. So i was in the beginning also open for my friends telling i have to need to speak in tongues. Then I prayed and asked God for this. I got then the same impression which i got when i met doctrine from cults. So for me it became clear not to follow this doctrine. During my time as christian i became from pentecostals ore charismatic to hear that i am not a full christiam if i cant speak in tongues.
But nobody could show me where the bible teach it.
The beginning of this teaching lays in Topeka 1901. Before this you cant find this teaching anywhere.
Of course today among pentecostals and charismatics are different teachings about this matter. But this all began in Topeka, USA.

Well, i suppose we will not come to an conclusion. In my eyes this is a false teaching and not the truth. And I dont know which Spirit is behind.
It is also clear for me that you and others are convincet to do the right.

Well, the Lord knows our heart!!
I honestly appreciate your experience, and believe the openness to truth you described in yourself.

In some ways my experience might be explained by saying I may have been fortunate enough to have had better teachers. And that's NOT saying some kind of a put down. What I'm saying is that in the fragile moment where I was struggling to receive, someone was able to give me the encouragement that I needed, at the time I needed it. That allowed me to continue seeking without feeling "put off" until God was able to get his spirit to me past my failings and theirs.

You may have felt or even BEEN belittled and accused by those around you. And you may have felt/perceived/discerned that they were behaving in an ungodly fashion. And you may well have been right.

Proverbs 11:22 KJV says "As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion." <--This speaks poorly of the behavior of the recipient, but does NOT devalue the gift they have been given.

The people you were with may have been yielding to evil spirits in their behavior and words, but that is NOT to say that the gift they carried within them was any bit evil (or unnecessary).

Love in Jesus,

I have not once used teachings from Azuza street preachers to back what I've said. And I did not receive speaking in tongues because of what happened in 1901.

Until God revealed to Elijah that there was a remnant of 7000 in Isreal, even Elijah(a prophet) thought he was alone.

The fact that Elijah didn't know until that moment does not detract from the calling on Elijah, and it does not detract from the existence of the 7000. Azuza street simply brought to the attention of the USA what God has been doing all along... Answering those who seek him diligently.... just like he did with Cornelius in Acts 10...regardless of whether or not the church (THE REAL CHURCH) thought it should happen.

Again, I didn't receive the Holy Ghost with speaking in tongues because of what they did or taught at Azuza street. I was seeking God myself.

I'm not saying that the disciples learned languages at Pentecost but I am saying that what you guys claim to do in your church is not what happened at Pentecost.
What do you think DID happen at Pentecost?

And is it a different Holy Ghost that we receive now, or the same one?

There are no tongues in the gospel. Simply the grace of God produces salvation.

There is no water baptism in the gospel. We are saved by grace not water baptism.

You seek signs because you cannot receive by faith that which God has promised.

John 20:19 ¶ Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26 ¶ And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Exactly what is recorded. The fulfillment of Gods promise to fill the disciples with the Holy Spirit so they could minister the word of God with power.
And is it a different Holy Ghost that we receive now, or the same one?

The Pentecostal Road to Rome.

Ephesians 5:11
And do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even expose them.

This is a very good video exposing just how utterly dangerous the pentecostal/charismatic movement is today. Aside from the unbiblical hysterical laughter, rolling on the floor, barking like dogs, slain in the spirit, and unintelligible ramblings. Unfortunately, by it's length alone, almost no one is going to watch it. But if you do, start at about the 35 minute mark. This completely exposes how this movement is trying to unify Christians. Unfortunately, this unification is satanic, as it joins all sorts of heretical churches and ultimately recognizes as the POPE as the head of the whole movement.

So those of you that have been deceived into thinking YOUR charismatic church would have nothing to do with catholicism or the vicar of Rome, you better do your homework and leave this movement.

Yet you remain hopelessly confused

Hi Thanks for the reply and opportunity to share what I believe. .

I am aware of the difference. Some pretend there is no difference between the things seen, the temporal and that not seen, the eternal .

When they that turn things upside down see the word "sign" they simply rush in after it in a hope in will confirm something. Foolish men rush in where the word of God says... " Do not go there "

Perhaps you are confused? What does the sign of tongues as one manner of prophecy confirm according the law in Isiah 28, re-introduced in 1 Corinthians 14?

Something one would desire to seek after? Signs either follow or they lead . Either "yet for all that" warning they still love their signs and wonders gospel. Or will they be convinced in their heart and will obey..... not on wanting a sign hanging over them that says'; "we do not the faith of Christ that alone comes from the word of God" We a have made it to no effect by the oral traditions of men.

The order of making the word of God without effect began when Moses came down from MT Sinai and men wanted nothing to do with the word of God written by the finger of Him who has no form.

But in their thinking they became childish and desired to play... "Show and Tell". or first see and then believe. That is which the unbelieving Jew was noted for turning things upside down in order to take away the understanding that alone comes from hearing God, the Potter...... the understanding of faith .This includes the manner of prophecy, called tongues

it would seem many get confused as to who are the believers and who are those who make the word of God without effect.

Green.... those who do belive prophecy

Orange... for those under the sign of unbelief (no faith)

1 Corinthians 14:20-22 King James Version (KJV) Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

aiah 28:12To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

Once a person properly defines what the sign confirms and who it speak of (the faithless) then the rest of the doctrine of God mocking those who mock his word will fall into place. Men will be avoiding it like a plague. Chances are for all that God has revealed... "yet for all that" they still will not believe the prophecy coming from the mouth of God.

As usual you are not able to comprehend the truth. The Holy Spirit always speaks and opens the truth of the word of God to believers. The Holy Spirit makes the truth of Gods word plain to unbelievers that they will turn from their sin and come to Christ. The Holy Spirit draws souls to Christ. Unsaved souls that they might be converted and saved souls that they might be strengthened.

John 16:15 All things that the Father hath are Mine; therefore said I that He shall take of mine and shall show it unto you.

Revelation of Gods word is complete.

For the cause of Christ
Roger

Amen, complete perfect.

Why would some seek to add to the book of prophecy after any manner of prophecy to include tongues ? Is there a law missing by which we could know Him more adequately? Is it really a living hope if we go above and beyond that which is written? The Catholics do it with what they have redefined as apostles an false authority that does rise above that which is written …. .making the word of God without effect.

Why would we desire to widen the authority of God's word? What's the hope?

When the disciples went into the streets of Jerusalem, they presented the Gospel in a language that was understood by those many people who spoke many different languages.

How does your speaking in a tongue that no one understands present the Gospel to others ?

It is not an ignorant question. It is a basic question.

The answer is important. And i believe you know that it is important.

So I ask again... Is it a different Holy Ghost that we receive now, or the same one as they received on the day of Pentecost?

How does your speaking in a tongue that no one understands present the Gospel to others ?
The "speaking in a tongue that no one understands" is "not unto men, but unto God for no man understandeth him" (unless God provides the interpretation).

Also, the "speaking in a tongue that no one understands" only edifies the speaker (unless God provides the interpretation).

However... Interpretation of tongues (converting the unknown kind into known languages) can "present the gospel to others". Also Diversities of tongues (speaking BY THE SPIRIT other known languages) can "present the gospel to others".

I know you didn't ask this but 1 Corinthians 14 is actually written like Jesus' answer about whether to give money to Ceasar or not. "Give that which belongs to Ceasar to Ceasar, and that which belongs to God, to God". We are to learn that the "speaking in a tongue that no one understands" is only a "to God" thing unless one of those other things is present (Interpretation, or Diversities of tongues).

Love in Jesus,
Kelby
