I believe you are referring to Revelation 18:9 which states the world's kingdoms shall bewail and lament Babylon the Great's demise when the Lord destroys her. You should, however, continue reading the criteria on Babylon the Great to see if Rome applies or if it is another city.

Googled best city, great city, top ten city...seems like London heads the list, but then, typing in english probably there is a bias.
I'm not impressed with London as a city to live in but in terms of trade and financial institutions, its probably only next to new York as being a top mercantile/trading city.
Dont know about the seven mountains though, both NYC and London are completely flat. London has greenwich, and people set their clocks by its time. london is the seat of the british royal family. NYC has wall street and the UN. They are both globally influential cities today there is no doubt about that.

Also, why skip over the most obvious, Jerusalem where our Lord was crucified. Why did Paul bother to preach the gospel to the Romans then if he knew they were so bad. And then Why were some romans, like the centurion, the earliest gentile converts.

Not saying you are right or wrong, but, how about asking if there are any actual christians living in Rome and what do they believe mystery babylon is. What would a romans answer to that be. If you read rev 17 there are many characteristics of the city.
One is it is a harlot. A “replacement” religious system that tries to act like the spouse.
NYC is not a religious system.
I can name many cities that have many characteristics. But if they do not fit. We have to look elswhere

What people worship/adore today are the works their hands produce through industry.

Yes I do. People have worshipped the harlot called babylon since God changed the name and spread them, and its religion throughout the world. Isreal as a nation worshipped it and got punished because of it (Baal Worship)
Look up greek mythology.. Look up Roman mytholgy. You will see these things which are worshiped as Gods. Thats Babylon the MOThER of harlots

If one was to suggest, the nation or power that will arise as a united front against God has not yet
arisen. The picture in scripture is one world power that dominates everything.
If you are looking at where our civilisation is headed, this is probably it, where compromise with
every activity under the sun is provided and nothing makes sense.
We will never resolve the two kingdoms, we are to dwell in the one and shine as a light for the other.
