Actually they weren’t respected, people didn’t like being told they were ungodly.
John the Baptist was beheaded.
Elijah was threatened
Abel was murdered
Daniel was thrown into a fire
and much much more
God still speaks today too and people still don’t like it.
Acts 2:17-18 NKJV
[17] 'And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. [18] And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.
Prophets of the Bible gave the message God gave them to give.. And if they tried to avoid doing so God open a can of whip ... on them .. remember Jonah?
More often then not true Prophets of God where disrespected, persecuted and sometimes killed.. Most people did not like being told the behavior they liked was sin and that they where about to face the wrath of God.. Some of the Prophets where thrown into dungeons..
And God had them do things that today would make church members lose their collective minds......Like walk naked through the city, marry a whore and have kids by her then go buy her back from the guys she was sleeping with, make mock up models of walls and cities, cook their food over human dung etc.......to prophetically show what was coming......
Yes both respect and persecution.
Towards the end of revelation it says "..the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophesy"
Jesus lives in the prophetic,and is over his prophetic church body.
We are to operate in the prophetic.
We are his body.
Prophetically we see the blueprint of heaven. And the blueprint of his plan and purpose for earth.
The prophet conveys what he sees and hears.
The prophetic should be stronger now than ever.
A prophet is one that declares the will of God.... prophecy. Abel was the first apostle sent prophesying the gospel. When he talked to Cain, Cain who had no faith by which he could reason through prophecy having denied it. Murdered Abel the first martyr . Walking by sight as in sight out of mind out of mind (no faith) coming from prophecy as it is written the word it representing the faith of Christ that works in the believer. .
As others have already confirm, they were not respected. Which tells you that God's truths are generally opposed and rejected, and His messengers persecuted and killed.
ACTS 7
51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain [killed] them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One [CHRIST] ; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:
53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.

Jesus was both respected and despised The prophets,like Jesus had their followers and others that looked to them as the man of God.
Daniel was respected.
He was thrown into a den of lions,not fire.

My slip up I was thinking of the men in the furnace.
The point was that the prophets were not very popular, people didn’t like
them for calling them out and showing them up. They didn’t like being told
they were not Godly.
The prophets were persecuted.
In the case of Samuel,i can't remember him being persecuted.
He was definately respected.
With Elijah he was threatened by Jezebel. But he ran away and got replaced for it.
Part of being a prophet entails being hated by someone and sometimes most everyone.
The best example of the prophet is Jesus.

God extends the life of KING HEZEKIAH.
2 kings 20-1-6
"In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, Thus says the Lord, ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.’" 2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying, 3 "Remember now, O Lord, I beseech Thee, how I have walked before Thee in truth and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in Thy sight." And Hezekiah wept bitterly. 4 And it came about before Isaiah had gone out of the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 5 "Return and say to Hezekiah the leader of My people, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of your father David, "I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord. 6 "And I will add fifteen years to your life, and I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for My own sake and for My servant David’s sake,"’"

During this extra 15 years Manasseh was born to Hezekiah. Manasseh ruled Judah as king for 55 years. He was the most wicked king ever known. He was the final straw for God, and soon, Judah was carried off by the Babylonians, and that was the end of the kings descended from David.

Some sources say according to Jewish tradition, King Manasseh had Isaiah 'sawn asunder', though the Scriptures do not specifically name him.
"And it shall come to pass in the last days".
Does this prophesy from Joel refer to the last days of the World/Earth?

Does this prophesy from Joel refer to the last days of the Mosaic Law, and of the Temple.
"The last days" began with the first coming of Christ, therefore Joel's prophecy was partially fulfilled on the day of Pentecost.
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds...(Heb 1:1,2)
However "the last day" (singular) is the period of time AFTER the Second Coming of Christ. It is not a 24-hour day as many assume, but is used by Christ metaphorically for a period of time which extends for at least 1,000 years. It includes both the resurrection of the just (saved) and the resurrection of the unjust (unsaved).
