If you go with the definition, 'to use for a special purpose'...it just doesn't work that way. Rather God takes us and uses us for His purpose, which should really be considered a privilege. He sets the agenda. How do we appropriate God's grace?
How did you arrive at this question? Grace is freely offered to those who repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. That's why it is called "Amazing Grace".How do we appropriate God's grace?

I heard someone preaching a sermon. He mentioned appropiating grace is important if you want to have peace. I don't think he was using the word in the sense of to take without permission but perhaps having a true understanding of God's grace.
We appropriate grace when we stop trying to contribute to His Life!
We agree with Him that His life is more than sufficient alone.
That is the Life that we now have in us, the Life that naturally rises up and flows through us.
Well he was simply misleading his audience.I heard someone preaching a sermon. He mentioned appropiating grace is important if you want to have peace.
What do you mean about not contributing to his life? Do you mean that we stop trying to earn or maintain salvation and trust in Jesus that his life and sacrifice on the cross was enough to save and keep us saved?

Grace and peace have been extended to believers ever since they became saints. See the benedictions at the beginning of every epistle. This is not because we deserve them, but because God is infinitely gracious, and the merits of Christ are infinitely perfect. We are to simply believe God and what He says.
To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called [to be] saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Rom 1:7)
Is this your response to the OP or Is this just something you wanted to post? How we appropriate grace - Thru FAITH!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(NOTE: God "GAVE" a fallen world his Son. Christ is God's grace/gift, we appropriate this gift/grace thru Faith)
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
(NOTE: Grace is a gift, appropriated thru Faith)
Romans 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
(NOTE: We access/appropriate God's grace thru Faith)

Maybe the question should be,how do we appropriate grace through faith?
That would be too quick a thread...better question is how do we Get Faith ?
so if God doesn't speak to you then we are not getting faith. That would be too quick a thread...
(Rom 10:17) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
