Why do people think the thief on the cross wasnt baptised?
There were TWO people besides Jesus being crucified, one was repentant and the other wasnt.
I think people are getting confused between these two people.

Baptism is a key part of the christian life. In fact, baptism shows everyone you believe because you are obeying God by repenting and being baptised.

What kind of believer refuses to be baptised? Do you think that if you dont follow what God says, and die to oneself through baptism, you can just sneak in through another door? Does a Holy God invte someone unclean into His house and fail or neglect to wash them?

An example in the OT.
Namaan was someone who balked at washing in the Jordan river. He had leprosy, but when instructed to wash there he didnt want to. He demanded instead to be healed instantly and for God to come to him. It is only when he repented, swallowed his pride and went there to wash that he got healed. Then his skin was as smooth as a babies. True story!

My bad, I missed it. I'm responding to two different threads. A couple points... Your bolded part. No one is spinning anything, we are having a discussion. Which, last time I checked, is allowed here.

Quote "
How do you know the thief had never been baptized? There is no scripture for that.

How do you know he was? There is no Scripture for that.

We must not apply conjecture, in scripture, as you have done here for it will miss lead us.

No, actually that is what you are doing.

OPINION....I think the thief on the cross was a former Christian who had back slid

Right that's you're opinion. Nothing in the Word indicates the thief was a backslider. That's an assumption you are making.

...because he seemed to know Christ.

No he felt convicted of his sins knowing he was guilty and Christ was innocent. That doesn't indicate he was a Christian that fell away. He never said that, Jesus never said that. You're putting words in their mouths that aren't there.

In any event G-d can grant absolution where He sees fit.

Great, if He does it for one, He can do it for all and baptism isn't needed for anyone.

Further, that would hardly out weigh the specific language in scripture which requires baptism.

All kinds of verses that talk about salvation and baptism isn't mentioned.
Please...go back and read my original posts. They are thought out and passes the test of compliance with G-d's word.
If you do not understand given points then address them...one at a time. It makes communications easier.
Your further comment and question is answered in my post.

Devote attention to G-d's word...not me as a person.

Bless you. I in a small river in KY.
I can never understand not following G-d's word. In this case not doing something as proscribed by G-d which hurts no one is ...well....unbelievable.

Further, I can find little evidence of ;positions against water baptism prior to 1960. My research to date suggest the Baptist denomination adopted opposition...and for what reason. Probably to justify the sale of a new bible edition.

No, they are your assumptions. The Bible does not indicate the thief on the cross was saved. Baptism does not save.

I didn't say I didn't understand what you said. I don't see that you've proven your point.

No one is saying don't be baptized. I'm saying baptism doesn't save you. Different altogether.

No,I'm not mistaken. There are many more verses that state salvation is by faith alone. You are adding to Scripture.
