I have felt led of the Spirit to study this event ,which has so WOWED my heart!
As we know Jesus had been crucified and buried,this was on the third day after!
The two were on the road to Emmaus( Jesus had sent them out by two,Mark6:7),their hearts were troubled with sadness and doubt...yes doubt!
V15. They were in fellowship together pondering and discussing the events that had just taken place in Jerusalem and Christ death and burial. I saw here the preciousness and strength of being in fellowship with one another. Mal.3:16 shows God's pleasure in us being unified and talking about him! He made a BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE to those that did this. Together we IMPROVE OUR KNOWLEDGE,REFRESH OUR MEMORIES IN SCRIPTURE AND STIR UP OUR DEVOUT AFFECTION AND DEVOTION!
V17 Here we see their sadness. If we know MORE of the divine counsels as far as they are made known in scripture we would/should NOT entangle ourselves often in the sad and sorrowful,but have EVERY reason to REJOICE!
v21dou ( little faith),(lack of insight),( forgotten scripture),and( misunderstood truth) Here are just some of the reasons and consequences of doubt.....Ps78:32/33,Jn3:18,Jn8:24,Jn12:48 2Cor.4:4 and Rev.21:8
V27 Prophecy!!!!! There are many scriptures through- out the O.T. concerning Christ! When it is put together,it is A GOLDEN THREAD of the grace of the gospel of Jesus that runs thru the whole web of the O.T.
V30/31 Fellowship of Christ! See v15 Jesus,Himself draws NEAR! Mat.18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in MY NAME,there am I in the midst of them. 1For 1:19, Rev 3:20!
V32 Inward FIRE!......hearts burned within them.....it must also do so in us today!.... It is kindled in meditation, and must be shared Jer.20:9 ........fire shut up in my bones....... Mat .3:11 I indeed baptize you with water into repentance.but he that cometh after me is mightier than I,whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire!............PLEASE feel free to share!

Emmaus was about 8 miles from Jerusalem. No I have never been on that Road, as a matter of fact, I have never yet been to Jerusalem.

(okay, okay, before anyone accuses me of being a carnal literalist devoid of any spiritual understanding...it was supposed to be a 'funny'.)

Yes, that's one Conference, I would have gladly attended. LOL

I have traveled on many a rough patch of road in my day but I have never been on the road to Emmaus.

sure you have my brother. Its an awesome trip. When The Spirit first led me here about 4 wks ago I thought....no way .........when I reached the end I was bowed over with WOW! You can do your own study,it is so worth the walk😢Blessings!🙏🙏🙏🙏

It is a walk worth considering and taken as it is the road less traveled.

We certainly have to be prepared for what encounter! I cried , I prayed, I cried and prayed again. He loves us so very much,and many times we are totally unaware HE walks and converses with us. I feel so humbled to have had the Holy Spirit led me to Emmaus! Blessings!🙏

My wife took the road to Emmaus once as God explained salvation to her. She cried tears of joy. I would cry too if I had any more tears left inside of me.

Blessed is he that hath not seen and yet believed....Our time was chosen....I am glad I was born in the time frame we are in, and in all reality, will see the end of the age, the destruction of Gentile world power and the return of the KING of kings in power and great glory ;)

I have always liked these parts....

But their eyes were holden (kept from recognizing him.-ESV) that they should not know him. (Luk 24:16 KJV)

And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. (Luk 24:31 KJV)

And now the clincher...

And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? (Luk 24:32 KJV)

That's right. His Spirit ministering to us through the Scriptures, quickens our hearts. So those who view the study of Scripture as a wooden exercise ...tsk tsk. lol.

While this is a wonderful passage, what is puzzling is that not a single disciple told the others "We must now expect to see the Lord as He said He would rise again from the dead". Mary Magdalene continued to doubt even after receiving word from the angels, Thomas continued to doubt even after receiving word from the other apostles.

And what about these characters? They are a puzzling bunch as well. lol.

John 21:2-6 NASBS
[2] Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. [3] Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We will also come with you." They went out and got into the boat; and that night they caught nothing. [4] But when the day was now breaking, Jesus stood on the beach; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. [5] So Jesus said to them, "Children, you do not have any fish, do you?" They answered Him, "No." [6] And He said to them, "Cast the net on the right-hand side of the boat and you will find a catch." So they cast, and then they were not able to haul it in because of the great number of fish.

Yes I love that part as well.....their hearts burned within them! That's why The scripture from Jer. Fire shut up in my bones.🙏

And WE DOUBT over the smallest of things ...unanswered prayer ect. 🙏

I must admit, I'd probably be doubter too. I put myself in their shoes. He died. To the carnal mind, what dies, stays dead. Nothing resurrects itself from a state of death.

It's sometimes hard to understand the decisions they made or what was going through their minds from our perspective and understanding.

The Lord had told His disciples that He would rise again several times. Given who He was that should have been everyone's expectation. That's why it is so puzzling.
