As for being social am not really and its easy to just unfollow someone on FB to stop receiving anything you arent interested in.

Its just if you dont know how to do this its easy to feel overwhelmed with all the stuff people send. Which is mostly junk, sad to say. As christians weve got to be a bit more discerning of who or what we allow on our lives. This is on the spiritual realm as well. Cos if you allow demons in, its very hard to get rid of them. And demons produce junk.

I had this lesson recently when an old workmate rang me put of the blue, and then started calling and. Txting and in general spamming and harassing me, under the guise of being a friend. Now its not nice to have to block someone but thats what I had to do, cos they were just totally violating my boundaries.

Many people are giving up landlines completely.
With smartphones it usually recongises the number so you know whether to pick up or not. Let it ring. If they dont leave a message, then sorry.

The last month I had heaps of calls from different unknown numbers, on my smartphone but none left a message so I didnt call them back. They seemd to be from other mobiles but I dont give my number out to many people, although one said it was from new York city, and I only know one person in nyc. If they were ringing to say I won lotto or something, who knows I may have missed out on a prize. But its unlikely cos wouldnt they have left a message anyway?!

They seemed to have stopped now thank God.

I got what I call a SPAM call when they come in on my cell and from someone speaking Chinese. They left a message when I didn't answer. :giggle: I don't speak Chinese. But it was at least a funny change of pace for such unsolicited nonsense to think some caller thought I did.

There are star codes with some phone companies now. Hit the *and a number after and it sets your phone for any number of options. One is to block anonymous callers. They get a recording that informs them the number they dialed does not accept anonymous calls. That helps cut down on the solicitors too.

We put our cell and home number on the Federal "Do Not Call" Registry. https://www.donotcall.gov/
The good thing is, when a company violates that order on your number if you copy their phone number and file a complaint at the site, the Fed. then fines that company for each complaint once they decide to prosecute. The question though becomes, when will they prosecute?

But at least if they ever do if people keep filing complaints of a company violating the Do Not Call request they can be out a lot of money once they're prosecuted. Of course the ridiculous part of that is fines levied for federal offenses by companies, or major corp.'s, are tax deductible.
That makes no sense.

Ironically this weeks sermon was on God calling. But I dont think its God calling from NYC. The number is not my cousins so, not sure who it could be.

I am curious how this works when call spoofing is a thing. I presume there is a way to tell from the Gov perspective (probably could figure it out on your own).

IME, the DNC list doesn't work but it does cut down on things considerably. If someone calls you anyway (and it's like united bank let's say and that's your bank) but you are on the DNC list for your bank for some reason, you should always hang up and redial the number. If you care enough to find out if it was legitimately the bank that called you or ID spoofing was employed.

I worked at a telemarketing company for a full day and during the training someone asked if they spoofed calls and the trainer sort of shifted her gaze a bit and answered "no" quickly but it was a bit odd...so eventually after I quit I figured it out. Just now actually lol (in regards to my own personal selling experience that caused me to leave).

About caller ID spoofing: I hopped across the state line and got a phone number at an AT&T store in Mississippi. I don't know anybody in Mississippi, so if I get a call from a Mississippi area code I know it's a telemarketer spoofing.

The only downside is I have to use an area code for every call I make. Small price to pay though.

Getting calls or texts from someone close to your phone number is a new trendy fad.
They are called your “phone neighbors”.

Of course, they could just be scammers too.

Im ok now ive blocked their number, I was getting calls from a while from randoms but they never a message so didnt respond. Even if they DID leave a message I dont actually need to respond to evey message I get. Sooner or later they get the message to not call me but that person was calling during work times and just saying random stuff that wasnt even important and certianly not appropriate to put in a txt message.

One time he did call and apparently was calling me from his cell while he was outside walking in the park, but WHO does that unless they actully want other people to see them talking on the phone?! And it was a converstion about nothing.

I know some people just want attention but a hello is fine dont have to spend hours talking with them.
I had this other issue with someone else who never seemd to end converstions and sometimes would deliberately keep asking me questions to keep me on the phone. In the end I just say sorry ive got to go now and hang up. You could say i need to go to the toilet stop talking to me. Cos i dont want to talk to anyone in the toilet.

Essentially to get you to pick up the phone. It's a trust thing that scammers use. I haven't looked into precisely how it works because I don't see a legitimate need. Unless I were a private investigator trying to get through to someone that didn't want me to, other than that idk. So you frequently answer calls from Aunt Edna...but no other number unless you recognize it, it would make sense to spoof Aunt Edna's number. This would require quite a bit of data mining and I'm sure there's an illegal line somewhere close in that territory so doesn't happen "too" often.

I think if you receive ten messages from the same person all in a row, its like spam, and if most of them are fwds. Whos got the time to respond really. But you dont even need to respond. It does however clutter up your inbox, pushes everything to the bottom of the pile, and means the more important messages might be missed.

If people want a conversation to be replied to instantly they are better off msging then emailing.
The thing with phone calls I dislike is when you try and talk to someone you need uninterrupted time you cant have a conversation just as they are about to go out, cook dinner etc. also if you share a phoneline, some people actually resent having to answer your calls for you, even though you dont even know whos going to call you.

I'll be out in the garden, and the phone will ring, i wont hear it but mum or dad will pick it up, and then yell at me to answer it. Theyll be really rude about it too and say why didnt you answer it? Cos I was out in the garden...duh!

I once had mormons come round my house and stalk me outside trying to talk to me as I was gardening. When they learned I wasnt going to speak chinese they just amazingly left me alone.

But mostly the worst is when you are half asleep or sick and in bed, and the phone rings. You pick up groggily or cough into the phone The caller then says oh sorry did I wake you? Uh yesss. Can I go back to sleep now? No, I dont want to make a dentist appointment. Sorry.

Hmm well I dont know who the caller from new york could be cos its not anyone I know I asked them.

One of the mysteries of the universe. I thought maybe they had changed their number and then pocket dialed me by accident. Not something to stress about really but it could have been really important like...the brooklyn bridge has collapsed or ...you won a free pizza. I dont know.

The caller turned out to be save the children asking me for money.

I was not going to answer but decided to hear them out, they wanted a monthly gift. i told them yes if I was richer but Im not in a position to give every month, I dont even get holiday pay.
They then asked for a donation and i said I will go to your website if I want to donate. Why they want to ring me at work time I dont know. They said I answered a survey but I dont remember having anything to do with save the children. Childfund yes, but not save the children.

At least they know not to call again.

Ironically I am kinda saving the children in my own job I dont need to send money for someone else to do it in bangledesh. Cos we dont have enough money here as it is to pay me to do my job.
