I think it's a combination of things that initially cause someone to get our attention. Later on, as we learn other things about them (like faith, intelligence, personality...), the attraction either becomes deeper or certain things cause us to back off, but the senses do play an important part at first meeting if we're being honest.
Sight - Not a specific thing, more the overall appearance of a person. It's not about a certain eye/hair color or body type (thought it might be for some folks), or about wearing the best, newest, most expensive thing, or spending a bundle on your hair, etc. It's about how a person carries themselves. Are they approachable? Do they pay attention to personal hygiene? Do they smile or do they appear dark and brooding?
Smell - RadioU, I completely understand your friend. About a month ago I was at the mall and a guy walked by me. I didn't really pay attention until his scent hit me. Nothing overpowering...just simple, clean and light. I started to turn around and ask him what it was, but that seemed a little too stalkerlike.
Hearing - A voice can be a very attractive thing. It can be strong, yet gentle and calming at the same time. Consider the impact listening to certain people sing love songs can have on us. (Josh Turner *sigh*)
Touch - Whether a person is affectionate or standoffish can be very important to some people. I'm not talking about someone crawling all over you, squeezing the life out of you or being suffocating, but when a guy takes your hand or guides you into a room with his hand on the small of your back in a way that says "this is my lady", it can have an impact I can't even begin to explain.
Wisdom tells me to skip the whole taste issue. lol
