Well, if he’s saved, he’s just a baby in Christ who needs lots of learning to grow spiritually. Looking back at my beliefs early in my salvation, I shudder to think how’d it go for me if I still held to them 12+ years later.
But I’m not judging him one way or the other...it’s not my job. My duty is to pray for the man.
I don't know who Jeremiah Givens is, but it is good that you are praying for them
Yeah, it would be hard as a celebrity because unscrupulous folks want to associate themselves with him, and some are wolves.
JGivens is a Christian hip-hop artist, whose music i enjoy. 8 or 9 years ago he made a record he called an 'intercession mix tape' - one of the tracks from it, i posted up there. that album samples heavily from Kanye's popular songs at the time, re-writing them to be about Christ. the example i posted is the same melody and music that Kanye sings "no one man should have so much power" ((himself)) --JGivens turns that into "I know One Man who has so much power" ((Jesus Christ))
from start to finish in that whole album Givens keeps telling the listener to keep praying for Kanye. also to keep praying for each other, to be faithful in it.
Kanye didn't just suddenly turn to Christianity. he made confessions of faith early in his career & included songs on his albums clearly lifting up Christ & expressing belief in the gospel. and he got more and more famous and rich, and he spoke less and less about Jesus - in the public eye anyway - and, as far as TV cameras etc showed us, backslid into following all kinds of lusts as he amassed all kinds of worldly riches and power for his music.
so what JGivens was doing by that record was encouraging us not to write people off who at one time believed and tried to walk in the Lord. to keep praying for them, keep lifting them up to God, asking the Lord to strengthen them and bring them back to Himself. he compares him to the prodigal son - one of the songs on the intercession mixtape is word for word, Givens reading that parable to us.
so, i don't know Kanye, i've never listened to his music, i don't keep up with pop music or culture. but i know, this is a guy who was a believer, who got rich and famous, and fell away. i should pray for him, that he return to Savior he first loved. Givens put out a whole album dedicated to that premise, years ago, long before Kanye's new album. and i think that is a beautiful, spiritually inspired thing for him to have done.

I'm not really into hip hop but I listen to Shai Linne's songs and the lyrics. They just aren't quite my genre though. I'm 56 so I'm not in the hip hop generation I guess. I don't mind it that younger Christians enjoy a different genre, though.
I like Vertical Church Band (from a while back; not the current one), Tenth Avenue North, Newsboys, Rich Mullins, Steven Curtis Chapman, Wes King, Rend Collective, Phil Keaggy, Phil Wickham, Jeremy Camp.
Usually I like powerful male voices that have Scriptural lyrics and move fairly quickly...I am not usually into slow sentimental music but I am not totally turned off by some of those types of songs either.
I will listen to Elevation Worship and some others who are associated with ministries I don't care for, such as Steven Furtick and Andy Stanley, but I don't think those particular songs violate Scriptural teachings.

The artists transformed an old hymn from the songbook of his grandmother into this song, if I remember right.
Only time will tell. But obviously if you listen to his recent Gospel music album, it definitely has a good message. So regardless Christians should be encouraging him and praying for him. And when he falls and he will because we all fall but we should correct and just as quickly begin to to pray and encourage him in the right direction.

one thing about celebrities -- there's no good reason i know of for us to look to them as teachers, to expect them to be sources of sound doctrine and wisdom. that's not what they become celebrities for. i haven't heard Kanye's new album but if i do i don't expect it to be like listening to a great sermon full of spiritual knowledge and illuminating wisdom. i don't expect that from Chris Tomlin or ((insert mega-popular contemporary Christian artist here)) either. when i do find that in songs it brings me a lot of joy, and when i don't i'm not anymore surprised than i am when i talk to average-church-going-joe and discover he's got a bunch of messed up doctrine he's accumulated, too.
if you can find someone who is an excellent musician / artist / whatever and a believer and has wisdom & sound doctrine, you've found something extraordinary IMO -- few and far between. Kanye, as well as all the music we hear on 'Christian radio' - and even preaching, too - we should always be listening to such things with discernment and checking them against scripture and the true Spirit of God to see if what they say is right, and we ought not be surprised to find flaws in their messages, and we ought not call them devils just because we do. which one of us is always right and has nothing to learn? famous people & people in positions of power and influence are just as fallibly human as we are.

This is very true. I loved Rich Mullins and his music, but he was enamored with Roman Catholicism.
While I am not at the level of the typical redneck mentality regarding Roman Catholicism, or the cultic extremes, or into the conspiracy theory views of dispensationalists and the Reformers, it's obvious they have massive doctrinal problems.
Rich Mullins had some excellent music and meaningful lyrics despite his doctrinal confusion in some areas. Only thing is that many of his fans considered his opinions on every matter to be the absolute truth.
I will admit that he exposed me to a lot of gospel truths though his theology was confused.
You are mistaken about predestination. If you will humble yourself, you will see during your bible reading devotions that the truth of election spans the whole of the Bible. God picks those who He wishes to show grace to believe in Him. God picks a person, much like a human being might pick one puppy from a litter of a dozen. For no other reason except the person chose a puppy to set his love on. The puppy did not pick the human; neither does a sinful, rebel of God ever chose God. If you are saved, it is only because you were elected before you were even born. The same holds true for Kanye. If he is elected to salvation, he will be saved. And if he was not predestined to salvation, sadly, like the son of perdition, he was created to be a vessel marked for destruction. In no way does this make God guilty of anything. God is always perfect and good and just. Mankind is sinful and desperately wicked. Unless, by the grace of the Lord, God draws some of us to Himself, we will die in our sins. But the sins are still ours. If a governor pardons one out of a hundred guilty on death row- the 99 unpardoned cannot complain that the governor is unjust for not pardoning them. So, of course, election (not you) is how one comes to saving faith in Jesus Christ
